    Richie Sambora's backing/secondary vocals are so vital to so many of Bon Jovi's songs. He's great on his own as well, but how their voices complement each other is the kind of thing that gives you goosebumps. And while I know that there are more technically difficult guitar solos, the crunchy, pure rock sound of Richie's solo does something to my blood, always has and always will.

    • @timlawrence2759
      @timlawrence2759 Před 2 měsíci +4

      There's something about this guitar solo. I can't explain it, its just fire - gives you a rare feeling. There's a couple of others that do that for me too - Alice in Chains Jerry Cantrell's solo in "Man in a Box" comes to mind, Matthias Jabs in Scorpions "No One Like You" is another. Maybe not super technical, but perfect choice of melody and impact.

      @flemminglinnebjergrasmusse4338 Před 2 měsíci +4

      I was going to highlight the exact same things.
      To me it's Samboras best solo. So powerful. It's the pitch harmonics and the way it just ends in those power chords. Just awesome.
      And Samboras vocals make the song.

    The thing I love about Bon Jovi is that many songs by them are about the darker side of rockstar life. They show how hard it is to be away from fam in "Bed of Roses" and "Always", they show the difficulties of life in "Living on a Prayer", "Keep the Faith", and "Runaway", and just how life on the road is hard in this song. Plus, they also give back to their community in "Who Says You Can't Go Home". Yeah, they have other songs like "Bad Medicine", "You Give Love a Bad Name", and "Lay Your Hands on Me", but they just don't resonate with me as much as the more touching songs. Love this song! My best friend playing lead guitar in a band for decades, I would watch him perform in bars, clubs, etc. He started playing this song in a crowded bar one night and I’m thinking, they don’t play this song. He waved me up on stage and handed me a microphone expecting me to sing this song. I’m like WTF i don’t even know all the lyrics. I just went with it and improvised adding some of my own lyrics. That’s just rock and roll I guess. Not knowing, I was also singing most of Richie Samboras back up vocals which I loved. Apparently all went well with the crowd standing and cheering. My buddy surprised and did this to me a few times with A/C D/C, U2, etc! Rock on 🎸🎤🕺🏾

With only two breaks due to total exhaustion of the singer after a stomach virus and a back surgery some monthes later. Nearly every day in another hotel, the only days at home when you tour close to your hometown. I have tour itineraries from that time in my collection where you can read details like 500 miles in the tour bus after show, check in to the hotel at 10 am, check out 6 hours later (and hand written by the bass player 2 hours promotion in a music shop during these 6 hours), soundcheck, show and another 500 miles in the bus...

    I saw Bon Jovi open up for Ratt back in 1985 before Bon Jovi released the album with this song on it (Slippery When Wet) and became super famous. Bon Jovi didn't have any huge hits at that time so they had to work to win over the crowd. All I can say is they put on one hell of a show and definitely won over a bunch of new fans. They guys in Ratt on the other hand were WASTED haha. I'm not sure how many Budweisers Stephen Pearcy slammed during their show but despite that they still brought down the house. That was a great night!

    I left school and started an apprenticeship in 1986. The first year involved living in digs away from home during the week. I had a little cassette boom box on my bedside table in my room of that house, and Slippery When Wet and the first three Marillion albums were about the only tapes I owned back then. I listened to this song and album *A LOT* during that year!

    They were the best band in the world in the 80s and 90s. I loved that era. They did so many gigs and it wore them out and this song shows how much of a drain it was but they rocked us and I will always be in their debt.

    This song was so popular because it diverged from their normal rock sound and because of Richie Sambora’s prominent acoustic guitar and backup vocal.
    “Little Runaway” was their first hit which (rightfully) burst them on the scene. “You Give Love a Bad Name” was the anthemic song that had us all chanting along in school.

    My first big concert was this tour and this was the #1 song at the time. For the first encore it was Ritchie Sambora playing some tasty blues stuff on his double-necked Kramer, settling into D, then launching into Wanted. Amazing show. Cinderella opened. The second encore had Bob Rock come out and they jammed more songs. The show was in Vancouver, and Bob Rock produced the album there.

    Bon Jovi (& honestly, many more of these hair/glam bands) were not taken seriously & often were the brunt of jokes as not being "rock". My friends in high school didn't see that at all; we listened to everything from The Who, Boston, Skynyrd, Journey, Van Halen, Scorpions, Metallica, Frampton, Bad Company,..& Bon Jovi etc. These guys were just cranking out rock-n-roll...& we jammed to the best on Friday/Saturday nights cruisin the strip back in the mid-80s!! 😎🤟

    A song about the never-ending vicious cycle of a high in demand rock band, never getting a break from touring and performing. The burnout that ensues, but the wheels of rock star fame and fortune never stop rolling, along with the record labels push to keep feeding the money machine.

    So much you could say about Bon Jovi, but I'm sure you'll get plenty of that from others. Just a couple things I would like to say. Another song, that for whatever reason, Jon Bon Jovi did solo for the soundtrack of the western movie "Young Guns 2", called "Blaze Of Glory", which has a very similar vibe. Great song that was a huge hit in like 1990, or whenever that was. I had the single on audio cassette, and listen to the hell out of it! It and this song are two of my very favorites of theirs.
    The other thing is that I don't think you've done any Bob Seger yet, but one of my very favorites of his is "Turn The Page", which is another song that's reflective of being on the road, and that whole thing, and it's been covered by Metallica, which maybe you've heard.

    hey lil’ lady Aileen,
    never really cared for Bon Jovi much; but I’ve always liked this tunes guitar work… and then, on a couple things u mentioned:
    one - abt. riding a horse, I immediately thought abt. a tune used to play on radio, “Save A Horse, Ride a Cowboy!”
    next - abt. exhaustion after the job. anyone who’s toured, whether playing for ten, or ten thousand, knows the exhaustion of the long trail. it’s damn hard, when u gotta play for Atlanta on Friday. nite, then be in Tupelo on Sat. nite, especially when u’r the Lead, set-up engineer, and Bus driver all in one. then, u pack it in, head for Minneapolis for Sun. nite! it only takes a little while, moving like that, to wear the edge of the Bowie knife, down to a paring knife!
    I got much respect for bands, and that’s all hands included.
    great job on that reaction lil’ lady @Aileen

    This songs about touring.
    The steel horse is a motorbike.
    The six string on the back is the guitar.
    The hand painted square of fabric you saw actually said I would die for you Jon.
    That is one of their songs and Jon is the lead singer Jon bon jovi.he writes the lyrics.
    Richie sambora the backing singer, guitarist is the music writer.
    Reactors usually start with living on a prayer as that broke them worldwide.
    And is more representative of their sound.
    This is one of my faves esp the build up and drop in the middle.
