  • The 29th First Annual Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, September 12th at Sanders Theatre at Harvard University. It will introduce ten new Ig Nobel Prize winners. Each winner has done something that makes people laugh then think. Winners travel to the ceremony, at their own expense, from around the world to receive their prize from a group of genuine, genuinely bemused Nobel Laureates, in Harvard's historic and largest theater.

Either the local Australian Football team to where the Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony is held (The Boston Demons, applying physics to prolate spheroids since 1997) , or my local team (The Ottawa Swans, applying physics to prolate spheroids since 2006) to make the trip to the Ceremony.

It is the "sensory homunculus" showing relative primary sensory cortex size delegated to body parts. It lies just posterior to the central sulcus -- C'MON, now, doesn't EVERY person who took biology in high school know that?
(There's another body-sensing mapping area in the insular cortex, which is insufficiently taught, integral to understanding the physicality of our individual choices, social, political, food, tolerance of sensed differences in others. The cortex is all about linking all senses to memories, risk, opportunities, enthusiasm, fear, novelty detection, and economics, for the skewed participants onstage. Can you "intuit" my bias? Does it gross you out?)

    RE: habits
Watching this a year later, I am shocked while observing the handshake ritual.
A past comfortably sociophysical contact adherent, I actually experienced nausea and disgust while watching the hand-to-hand contact trading.
Now, this is insular cortical and commonly persistent. I thought such avoidance was limited to ER and surgical professionals a year ago, it being explained as common practice since the 21st century SaARS and Ebola outbreaks.
Now we can understand the East Asia no contact bowing as result of natural selection.
I had never realized the likely disgust response of over 3 billion humans to hand shaking.
This is an astonishing interoceptive change, which may be pervasive and persistent.
It would NOT be ignoble to seek grants to research this very physiological and sudden change.
Imaging tech has accelerated our understanding of the identity of physical and cognitive response.
This may further connect evolutionary and molecular biology to sociality and species cognition, if pursued.
