- The 29th First Annual Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, September 12th at Sanders Theatre at Harvard University. It will introduce ten new Ig Nobel Prize winners. Each winner has done something that makes people laugh then think. Winners travel to the ceremony, at their own expense, from around the world to receive their prize from a group of genuine, genuinely bemused Nobel Laureates, in Harvard's historic and largest theater.

There aren't many places were a 8 year old gets as much applause as a Nobel laureate.
It's not entirely voluntary, Miss Sweetie Poo's word is LAW.

@@manicabawse2867 So fucking trueeee.
Because such an event exists, there is still hope for humanity.
Some people watch the Oscars.
Me, an intellectual...
xD hahaha
I can probably make 2020 since I’ll be researching at the Brigham and I’m so excited.

I predict the girl saying “please stop, I’m bored” will someday win a Nobel prize.
You will too!
This is the best scientific awards ceremony I’ve ever seen. This really should get more public attention.
"Wombats are scientific proof you can squeeze a square peg into a round hole."

Thank you! You made my day!

This whole thing put a smile on my face. At the end of a harrowing news day, too. Thank you for sharing. And for everyone else, watch it all the way through. Truly. Pure joy.

Always nice to watch the ceremony!
Greetings from the other side of the ocean ;-)
I think that she has to be one of the most effective Miss Sweetie Poo's ever! LOL..LMAO....
And here comes Disney claiming royalties for the Star Wars theme.
Thanks to organizer and Ig Nobel Committee
I like it very much. It is inconceivable if science were celebrated in school as it is celebrated here. Wonderful!
OK. Add to my bucket list.
I miss Miss Cutie Pie: "Please stop!, I'm board!"
bored
Oops !
This is amazing, shame I didn't discover ig nobel prizes earlier :D
This s so amazing 😂😂😂🙌🏻🙌🏻
I'm so excited to watch this!
3 suits guys chew banana then spit it on the stage😂
I love that research and their dad.
He must have saved so many children’s tooth🦷
I have a silly idea for a delegation. Either the local Australian Football team to where the Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony is held (The Boston Demons, applying physics to prolate spheroids since 1997) , or my local team (The Ottawa Swans, applying physics to prolate spheroids since 2006) to make the trip to the Ceremony.

underrated
I always loved the concept of ig nobel. Now that ive seen it, its just public radio. Kind of disappointing.
Funny fact, Cari Cesarotti was telling me in the summer 2013 how excited she was to attend Cornell University and study with Carl Sagan. I had to tell her Carl Sagan had died about 10 years earlier! She was shocked and embarrassed! I was very surprised she was not aware he had died long ago!
@Cari Cesarotti just teasing you Cari.
@Cari Cesarotti who are you guys?
"Speech jammer" is literally zoom.
It's a whole science.
Aw, there's a new Miss Sweetie Poo.
An 8-year-old can only stay 8 for so long. Ha! Different on The Simpsons, of course, but not here. Sad.
She's pretty good though ! !
@@alexs.1242 She's probably a Time Lord, keeps regenerating.
It is the "sensory homunculus" showing relative primary sensory cortex size delegated to body parts. It lies just posterior to the central sulcus -- C'MON, now, doesn't EVERY person who took biology in high school know that?
(There's another body-sensing mapping area in the insular cortex, which is insufficiently taught, integral to understanding the physicality of our individual choices, social, political, food, tolerance of sensed differences in others. The cortex is all about linking all senses to memories, risk, opportunities, enthusiasm, fear, novelty detection, and economics, for the skewed participants onstage. Can you "intuit" my bias? Does it gross you out?)
YES!
I’m learning English and found so much fun
Were you looking for it?
J G Yes I heard Japanese people received Ig Nobel praise for the 13th straight, so I was interested in it
トロフィーは割とセンスあるの貰えるのね。現地で生でみてみたいな受賞式
science should be fun and interesting to learn, thats a great thing
Welcome welcome ....

So anyone else watching this from elsewhere?
Everyone is watching this from elsewhere.
Lots of love from Pakistan.
I am from Pakistan too

RE: habits
Watching this a year later, I am shocked while observing the handshake ritual.
A past comfortably sociophysical contact adherent, I actually experienced nausea and disgust while watching the hand-to-hand contact trading.
Now, this is insular cortical and commonly persistent. I thought such avoidance was limited to ER and surgical professionals a year ago, it being explained as common practice since the 21st century SaARS and Ebola outbreaks.
Now we can understand the East Asia no contact bowing as result of natural selection.
I had never realized the likely disgust response of over 3 billion humans to hand shaking.
This is an astonishing interoceptive change, which may be pervasive and persistent.
It would NOT be ignoble to seek grants to research this very physiological and sudden change.
Imaging tech has accelerated our understanding of the identity of physical and cognitive response.
This may further connect evolutionary and molecular biology to sociality and species cognition, if pursued.
I was thinking the same way. Society will evolve and change similar to how it changed after the black plague etc
2023 for me 15 years old living in Germany it is again fine watching people handshake
Anyone else come here because of npr?
I am here to see miss sweetie poo

Why would anybody intentionally build an errodrome?
I think they meant "aerodrome", which is synonymous to airfield/airport
@@katyakmal4098 His joke was based on the misspelling: "errodrome", as in, a drome built in error, i.e., not "intentionally".
Must explain poo Santa isn't real

Please stop!
I’m bored!
This is how Educated people plays lol 😂😂😂
1:10:10 i wanna read this paper
Is that having sth. to do with real nobel price? Or is it kindergarten? What is it, that I saw here? Is that whole nobel thing so degenerated?
No, it has nothing to do with the (real) Nobel prize. But it is still an important event because even weird, weird science can be important.
english are strange people
Never heard of this. Why is there a man painted silver holding a flashlight. I’m so confused. Why are they wearing cultural hats? I’m 13 minutes in and i still don’t know what this is for. Why did a guy get a prize for analyzing that Italian pizza has health benefits. I also don’t like the kid yelling “please stop I’m bored”.
Idk it's just a human spotlight. Either a convoluted relativity joke or purely there to generate questions like yours, who's to say?
The whole point is to celebrate the silly and strange side of research science
...do you have a sense of humour?
@Agent J ...and what has that to do with the IG Nobles again?
Because reasons.
How does this event survive today's thoughtcrime culture?
I regret that the delight of watching this was wonderful event was ruined by an inane crack at President Trump at the 56:48 mark, further proof of my own observation that there are a great many 'educated' idiots. This may be the last Ig Nobel I ever watch as I am turning it off at that point. Was it worth it to the hosts?
I think you're overreacting. After all, the D field now looks as turbulent as the R field four years ago. With nor nearly the same sense.
I don't think the ig nobels will miss you. Good bye.
