- I used the Hirstarts Molds 65 and 75. The plaster i used is Creato Plastalin Super.
The foam unter the plate ist used to give the plate flexebilety. that way you can, after you pour the plaster into the mold but before the scraping, hit the plate several times to release even more bubbles. but i forgott that during the video ;-) - Hry
Thank you! I plan to use this to build a city on rock and roll. You rock
i do casting on larger moulds and would recommend that your powder is added to your water also when the mould is full gently tap it this will level your plaster and release and air bubbles giving you a better finish
I am sure someone has pointed this out already but with plaster you should add dry to wet not wet to dry. You get way more consistent results and it is a lot easier to tell when the plaster is actually saturated.
I love all your videos, thank you very much for doing this for us all.
Very interesting to see a different method of doing this.
Thank you for all the great vids :)
there have been no painting tutorials for a long time
i love the little piggy intro, that's fantastic!
I really have to get my hands on some Hirst molds. Been wanting to make stuff for years :)
I use throw away plastic cups with markings for making a quick and perfect mixture of plaster and you can pour straight from the cup. Also, I use a dental plaster used by dentists to make those castings of peoples teeth. Very strong and not that expensive if you buy a big bag (5 to 10kg)
Great video.
O wow all these comments are so old, but the video is still useful after all this time.
I believe she called it aluminum foil. In America, the terms 'tin foil' and 'aluminum foil' are used interchangeably.
www.hirstarts.com is the site for these molds if anyone needs the link.
Thank-you GP.
In the uk it's called hydrocalb ( I'm from uk) and it works extremely well but is a tad expensive here. Sets fast and is rock hard.
thanks for sharing
Thank you for another great video Alexandra! As always it was very informative and enjoyable to watch! How durable is plaster as a material? Does it chip / break easily? Also what type of glue do you use to bond the pieces together? Thanks again!!
Hi GP
I was wondering if you could use resin for those molds and would it be cheaper to do so?
I believe right way is to pour gips into water, slowly.
I was going to ask if you (GirlPainting) had ever heard of Hirst Arts. Guess i don't need to ask now /laugh.
I really want to get the molds for the ship corridors. Looks awesome for Space Hulk or even 40k
Awesome video! How would I get molds like this to make my own terrain? Thank you!
Viel mehr interesiert mich wo du diese wunderbare form her hast!
eine frage Alexandra , woher hast du diese Molds? man muss bei ihm doch in Dollar bezahlen und der Versandt ist super teuer!!!
What were the molds in the video? Look like bits off the walls and buildings of minas tirith :p
where are you from? i always wondered
Danke :).
It really DOES matter if the bricks are smooth on the bottom (scraped side) because they won't stack evenly if the aren't smooth.
Mmmm mini pancakes ;)
That's really odd hmm google maragon and get herculite no2 when it sets and is fully dry you can throw the parts on the floor and they won't even chip. Pretty much the same thing as hydrocalb but much cheaper it's what I use. I bought a 25kg about 3 years ago and I've only just had to buy some more. The site is a bit weird at first but is awsome priced. Hope that helps. Also try mixing the plaster with a little less water which should make the hydrocalb set faster.
We call that silver foil "tin foil" in England. I couldn't hear what you called it over the rustling.
8:60, Dem grunts
2 hours until it dries? If it really takes that long, you should use a different one! I use Plastilin from Trollfactory (you should know ;-) and this one dries in 7 minutes to get it out of the mold. After roughly 1 hour it is ready to be painted or glued.
Well I have a idea plaster arrow heads
@domrambo1 Ive been noticeing that too
