Here's what some icons have to say about the book!!!
Ice-T: "Respect to Soren Baker for documenting the history of gangster rap in these pages. Some hate it. Some love it. But you can’t deny its brutal, hardcore honesty."
The D.O.C.: "History has so often been written by the victors, that you very rarely ever get the real story behind anything. So it’s really important to hear from the people that were there, which is exactly what Soren Baker shares in this book. He writes about it and he’s honest about it."
Xzibit: "Hip-hop changed the world. Gangster rap changed the narrative, and then changed the world again. Soren Baker has been a very integral part of documenting hip-hop on the West Coast for as long as I can remember. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to write this book."
Leslie “Big Lez” Segar: "Soren Baker has changed the perspective of gangster rap by putting his pen to paper. He has given hip-hop power, proven its potential, and made non-believers contemplate all of its possibilities. The truth in his writing leaves no stone unturned, something he's done again with The History of Gangster Rap. Soren doesn’t just champion hip-hop. He also reveals its flaws and its truths."

The Bomb Squad don't get mentioned enough anymore. They were the most influential producers in the game at one point. For me personally, they created the best sounds in Hip Hop history. Chaotic, complex, and funky.
Definitely funky, and danceable
From The Bomb Squad type of production and aesthetics came Soul Assassins production style and Wu Tang production style. These are my favorit 3 influences!
The man is a legend. Todays kids need to take notes.
Baker gives dope interviews 👏
The Bomb Squad is the best rap production team. They changed the rules and elevated the debate.
Excellent Interview 💯👍
The lack of appreciation for The Bomb Squad is crazy
One of the best producers to ever do it ...Quincy Jones of Hip Hop
FACTS
This is the best interview yet.... Much respect to you Soren, Hank is my favorite producer of all time.
My childhood friend! Grew up with Hank and Keith in Roosevelt Long Island Met Chuck when he joined Spectrum late 70's early 80's Use to go with them they did parties on Long Island especially the college parties
I can watch the hank Shocklee interviews all day long I like his perspectives on sound 💯💯💯 thanks Soren
Soren, Interview with Sam Sever? He's active on IG and seems like he'd have some good stories.
Great job on advertising the book. Classic
One of my best music moments was bumping into Public Enemy crew at Barcelona airport and Chuck introducing me to Hank who was so kind and graciously spoke with me.
On top of this, Juice is the next things that most influenced me next to Low End Theory. I spent a long time trying to find out as much as possible from the soundtrack & score to the DJs who appeared or scratched for the overdub.
On that note massive salute to Cam from YBT and Daddy Rich!
I'm 38, which is pretty young for a lot of my assessments... Juice is a top 5 hip hop soundtrack. Literally was at work rapping "what could be better", yesterday.
@@PancakeDiaries what an amazing film. Another incredible bit of fate I experienced was accidentally booking an airbnb in the building Bishop lives in - Riverside projects (now student digs). I can’t explain how mindblown I still am this happened and to add to that I went to dinner with Boogie Blind & Cam which is when I found out Cam did much of the score I had been puzzling over. For anyone interested in such trivia, the movie was shot all around 136th & Nicholson, a little further up from where Above The Rim was shot and it all still looks the same. So many music vids and films were shot round there including Uptown Anthem and Juice - it’s all literally in them side streets & under the bridge
Imma need Hank Shocklee & The Bomb Squad go to Oaktown to work with Phesto Dee for Collabo. Soren Baker present this idea to them when they check out his record. As well immortal technique
Bomb Squad Top 5 Hip Hop Producers 👑💯
Who else on that list of yours?🧐
Ice Cube's debut album AmeriKKKas Most Wanted was GANGSTA and produced by a East Coast production crew!!! Figure them apples out!!!! SICK PRODUCTION INDEED!!!
Slow your roll. Sir Jinx produced half the album
East Coast can't be gangster? You know all those blaxpoitation gangster flicks took place in NY.
Soren showing off his acting chops 😂
THE LEGENDARY HANK SHOCKLEE!!!!!!
BOMB SQUAD!!!!!!!!!!
straight talk - @1:20 - forgiveness is spiritual - not just emotional.
Loved the Bomb Squad as producers, they were a crew of producers putting thier heads together concocting mean terrible Instrumental Beats!!
Wow Hank just said Rakim Allah produced Juice [Know The Ledge] by himself with Eric B.
WOW!!!
Gratitude.
Ps Forgiveness is difficult.
Huh I always thought Rashad Smith was behind all those tracks from the R during the 1991-1992 years. I'm pretty damn sure I remember reading that in an interview from Rashad himself.
There were rumors of Large Professor too.
Bill Duke !! 🔥🔥🔥😅😅😅
The Bomb Squad is the blue print of Dr Dre
Indeed, @kendu1327. Part 3 of our interview with Hank Shocklee drops tomorrow at 8 am EST. Le us know what you think. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
Pure Bullshit. Dre was doing it before them.
