Best Sleeper Cars & Trucks 1/4 Mile Compilation - I Wasn't Expecting THAT!

  • Compilation of some of the best sleeper cars and trucks from New England Dragway that I've caught on video. Some cars do have parachutes etc., which sleeper aficionados may find fault with, but they are faster than the average person would expect, sometimes much faster!
    Whether they are all a sleeper in its truest form or not, I hope you'll find these fun to watch.

    • @ourtime-downhere6931
      @ourtime-downhere6931 Před 4 lety +2

      It's bracket racing, you give what your time is and they adjust the light tree accordingly so the idea is the faster car leaves later with the object of hitting the finish line at the same time. It makes it so you have to be extremely consistent with your launches, shifts and the tune of your car. It's a popular form of racing where I live. So while the performance does matter the drivers consistency and abilities matter more. Makes it fun so some dude can't just rock up with the fastest car and smoke everyone whether he can drive or not.

    • @mikefelty2625
      @mikefelty2625 Před 4 lety

      @@ourtime-downhere6931 Yeah, they definitely have bracket racing here in Texas. I know all about dial-ins, making sure you don't break out by going faster, and all that. I typically don't care for some forms of bracket racing, especially classes that allow delay boxes. To me that takes some of the thrill out of it. It was just funny to me the way the VW ran down the T/A. I tend to prefer heads up racing or the slower guy getting lengths or other advantages to make it more fair. Timing the tree staggered is used in heads up classes sometimes as well.

    • @mikefelty2625
      @mikefelty2625 Před 4 lety

      @@ourtime-downhere6931 Also, that wasn't a bracket race. The lights came on at the same time, but the VW waited to build more boost for the launch.

      @ourtime-downhere6931 Před 4 lety

      Mike Felty I missed that the lights came on at the same time, I guess I assumed why a practiced racer would've left so late as being bracket racing, sorry for assuming. He must've been in a serious haze; that was a crazy late launch. You can build boost long before, no need to wait that long and as seeing as he's obviously don't it before it struck me as odd. Mistakes happen all the time, I guess I shouldn't assume.

    I love the diversity in drag racing these days!!
    I’m 50 now and growing there was no car at a drag strip with a 4 or 6 cylinder engine. There was an occasional 4 cylinder Offy in a retro drag car or a supercharged Chevy straight 6 but they were rare. Nowadays you have no idea what you’re up against! There are 6 second cars with 4G63 engines and of course the mighty 2JZ which is way better than JZ! The RB engines are killers too and the Swedes are building 7 second Volvo engines and on and on!
    If you have the money you can build a billet block out of any well designed engine and put astronomical boost to it and injectors like fire hoses! I didn’t even mention what the Puerto Ricans and Ozzies are doing with the old Rotary engines! I love it. There IS a replacement for displacement!!!
    And all this technology is from the early days! Turbo and super charging was developed in the late 20s and used extensively in fighter planes in the 30s and 40s. It ain’t new but is finally available to the average Joe on a budget. I look foreword to the next few decades to see what’s next. 3 second all electric dragster outrunning top fuel?

Also, on the exhaust manifold there is a part (I forget the name of it, but it was $100 bucks 20 years ago lol) that can go bad. I had to figure these out for myself as two mechanics I took the truck to couldn't. lol Once replaced, I had a great running truck. I really liked your vid but I think you need to look up ‘sleeper’ again. Grand Nationals, Fox Body Mustangs, 4G63 Mitsus (Eagle Talon/Mitsu Eclipse), Teslas and GMC Typhoons don’t count. Some of the ones I really liked were the Eagle Summit (the one just missing a 2-step to get down in the low 9s or high 8s), the first Integra (220 hp my ass!), that Corolla(holy fuck, 8.5!!), the convertible Vette, Chrysler 300 and the last Impreza STI.
