I meant to post this 3 months ago as it has been just sitting in my uploads but i neglected to publish it at that time. - Hry
I like how they excluded John from the guarma missions, because if he’d been on that boat he would have drowned not being able to swim
I never thought about it that way
Woow

Help, I can't swim!
@@Deadfusionkiller1 no it’s cuz they wanted to give a nod to read dead redemption bc other than Micah Dutch Javier and bill survive the boat and had Arthur not came along they probably would of early on went to become who they are in read dead redemption til Dutch finds Arthur
This was the weirdest chapter. We went from western outlaws to fighting in a rebellion against slavers on a tropical island in something reminiscent of farcry/uncharted

I thought it was Javier
Didn't even say anything too. "Charles, how you holding up?" "I'm okay Dutch" "Good. Mind if I sit down on this chair?" "Course not." *stands up and scoots chair*

Anyone else feel like the beginning the Guarma chapter has this almost like, dreamy quality to it? Like it feels in tone and pacing like a nightmare. No rest, no respite, just jarring strangeness and worse and worse shit happening. It's really cool and I love it.
great way to put it
Tahiti
I absolutely hate it, it’s narrative, tonal and gameplay whiplash. They probably had big plans for Guarma but realized it made no sense and had to salvage all the assets and money wasted on its development so we got this half assed chapter that nobody wanted and the story is unaffected by.
@@marc-antoinemarcoux697IN A YEAR WE’LL BE FARMING MANGOS! IN TAHITI! 🔥
@@reservoirfrogs2177 main problems with guarma was that 1. It was too undercooked (just like Roanoke, Ambarino and especially New Austin)
2. It was integrated into the open world
3. It was kind of rushed, and it didn't blend well with the story. It almost comes across as a side adventure. It should have been something more akin to the stranded mission from AC4. But nothing of importance really happens here besides seeing Tahiti was a pipedream and Dutch going crazier.
Dutch's whole "plan" was to take a boat and sail to a tropical island and live out his Idea of freedom and paradise.
The chapter of Guarma serves to show that there is no chance that will ever work out. That's why It feels so chaotic and unpleasant, and why It takes place in a tropical setting.
It goes to show no matter where you run there will always be an army after you. You can never run away from your past. It will always catch up to you someday.
Not really. He just got unlucky and never made it to the island he wanted to go to.
No if it goes smoothly theres no shooting game
The main reason it never would have worked is because Dutch and the gang were never willing to leave the outlaw life behind them. No matter where they went they always had to con and steal. If they actually made it to Tahiti they would have ended up screwing it up by robbing and pissing off the local law enforcement. Dutch is like alcoholic only that hes addicted to thieving and fighting
Well you can’t really survive or live on a sugar plantation farm that’s being owned by corrupt leaders, but yeah ain’t no way Dutch and the gang could’ve adopted in Tahiti without going crazy.
This chapter felt so different and nothing like the setting before and I just loved it. It was such a subversion of expectations
I know. I knew we’d get back eventually and I’d get my stuff back. So I just enjoyed the time running around the island and trying on different hats.
Subverting our expectations that a story makes sense and that this is a good game? Every aspect of this section sucks

Exactly.
Pouflex X and it was one of the worst chapters in the game. That’s a great point
Prince Aurelius everyone has their opinions. The last mission was great but I feel like most of the others were just boring.
I think Guarma wasn’t too exciting, and the stuff near the end with the Native Americans and Dutch’s plan felt too long.
Brendan Greene agreed
I really enjoyed how out of left field this chapter felt. I could hardly believe what was happening when I played it, it really throws you for a loop! I think how it connects really well with how much of a failure the Saint Denis bank heist is for the gang, as like, the people like the most in the gang all die! And then you're in Guarma, I think it's done excellently and really keeps you guessing. The game is completely changed after this point. It's apparent that it's approaching it's end, and any dreams of green pastures are dead for the gang.

This was definitely the beginning of the end. Maybe they had a chance of surviving in the earlier chapters but after this it was inevitable they'd fall apart.
17:03 the camera movement makes it look like a movie scene
Yeah i liked how shaky it was, it was handheld instead of steady, but after you go back to main land, cutscenes are quite different and it seems to be linear and steady.
It sucks that Charles just disappears before boarding the boat and he is left out for chapter 5

9:00 that music is fucking terrifying oh my lord
Really shows the feeling of being lost in a new world. Arthur is essentially walking into the unknown here. For all he knows Dutch could be there or something or someone else, friend or foe, he doesn't know
I like this little cutscene in Guarma where if you didn't walk they'll beat you up to death and I like how Dutch got so protective towards Arthur and such
Shows he really cares. He's just losing it.
5:28 Is probably the first time I have heard Arthur's voice high pitch, in this case yell out "Dutch" which almost makes him sound so helpless and scared. Arthur just sounding like that is enough to tear me up for some reason.

Arthur: yea yea yea but WATCH THIS SICK BODY SLAM!
I was so depressed hearing that poor lady's story and BAM!!! that was funniest twist in this video. It even got funnier the way Arthur was doubtful to take out his gun or not after the slam but the poor fellow who his horse also ran off, staggeringly walked away as if Arthur wounded him so much more in his mind than in his body.

What you mean?
I feel like this chapter Just brings out the primal survivor in everyone, Dutch is crueler and easier to anger, Micha is the laziest and, Aurther is all over the place.
9:00 minute mark that music is so ominous in the transition from cutscene to gameplay. It just gives the sense that things are about to go from very bad to extremely worse. The composer's of this game are great, the entire score of music is phenomenal.
I agree and think it is one of the best parts of the game. The way the music emphasizes the vast unknown before Arthur before the presentation of the title screen for the fifth chapter had me in absolute ecstasy when I first played it. For me it is the artistic high point of the entire game. One can only imagine the overwhelming horror that would be felt in such circumstances; he has no idea where he is or whether or not his friends are alive, and at this point there is only an endless vista of open sea and a hostile jungle with no recognizable signs of human civilization in sight. I was and remain very fond of the entire Guarma chapter despite its eventual shortcomings, and wish that they could have finished the entire island as a map with free roam with an option to establish primitive camps and such with whatever materials could be found, and even more so that we could return to the island in the epilogue though obviously it doesn't work with the established narrative at play in the segue to the previous game. It was just so fantastically beautiful there, the mountain and the color of the sea water, I was sorry to see it end and our time on the island so brief. Anyway that transition sequence is awesome and I also love the prior sequence during which Arthur explodes dynamite to open the wall of the bank in St. Denis, the way it is animated so that you can see the effects of the shock wave radiating outward as the material around you shatters and debris moves through the air. For my recent play through I had Arthur wearing his hat and did not go back behind the counter where Dutch was taking cover but instead only backed up to it before firing, and so in that scene Arthur was lifted up and thrown backwards by the blast and his hat went flying across the room, it was so cool seeing him move through the air like that. The ending of the 4th chapter into the beginning of the 5th has to be my favorite part overall.
Isnt it sad how Arthur tells Mary he can be with her and to just give him some time and then this shit happens and Mary thinks Arthur just forgot about her or gave up on getting out of the life?
Someone didn't watch the end credits lol. Mary goes to Arthur's grave in a scene during them, so she knows he died.

Guarma was definitely a unique chapter: Arthur and gang have washed up ashore and have neither their weapons nor horses until Hercule’s group rescues them.
Once the gang are given reasonable accommodations, they were able to help Hercule and his men defeat Fussar and his army.
Funny thing is that this is the only time where the Van Der Linde gang were able to permanently escape from authorities. Too bad that same luck didn’t follow them back to the main overworld.
The sequence in the ship when it was sinking should be a mission where we had to find a way out with a time limit instead of just a cutscene imo. It's gonna feel more intense
*Remembers flashbacks of the first Modern Warfare mission.*
Nah this is a rockstar game. If u ain't shooting meaningless npcs u get yourself a cutscene
notice how the people that ended up in guarma ended up dying? guarma makes the endings for the game make sense, if you beat the game with low honor guarma didn't change you, you were still a killer just less deranged than the others on the island. if you beat the game with high honor guarma humbled you along with everything that happened before, learning from your time in guarma makes you better than dutch, micah, bill, and javier

Her dead eye is weird.
i like the idea that every character has a unique deadeye sound
Dutch calls himself Aiden O'Mally when captured by the slavers. Aiden O'Mally is a pretty obscure character from GTAIV, he was Derrick Mcrearys old drinking buddy, criminal associate & they were also formally in the IRA together before Derrick made his way back to Liberty City. I wasn't excpeting that name to come out of Dutchs mouth, nice little nod to a previous Rockstar title.
I never understood how Micah got his guns back on Guarma. He doesn't have them when they first wash up on the island yet he's seen using them throughout the chapter.
He kept them on his belt even when they boarded the boat from Saint Denis and it looks they stayed on his belt even through the big storm
