I think Reverend Swanson is a very underrated character. He lost everything in his life and gets drug addicted, but pulls himself together and becomes the head of this NY church. And besides that he‘s funny as hell

My fiancé casually watched me play this game from time to time. She fell in love with it. She is someone who never plays video games or even has a slight interest in watching me. It just shows how masterful this game really is.
Ikr, I was never into video games until I started watching my brother play it, he had so much fun playing that I asked to play it when he was done, he agreed and I stopped watching to avoid spoilers. Best video game ever!
It's story is just that good yo. Video games are like playable movies in a way.

All of us hate Micah but admit, Peter Blomquist did a great job, if it was some random guy from the street doing the voice acting and motion capture, Micah wouldn't be as hated as he is

I love how games are bordering on movie quality production. My first playthrough I thought Micah was voiced by Steve Ogg, he reminded me a lot of Trevor.
I think he voiced the leader of the larmie gang in the pronghorn chapter it sounds a lot like him
I can see why people think this but Trevor would never sell us out to the pinkertons, he was loyal af. The whole point of his character was he valued loyalty and friendship above anything so that's pretty much the opposite of Micah really
He is the head of the Laramie gang in the epilogue

Absolutely amazing how they incorporated what all the real actors did on break on set to the real actions of the characters lounging around the camp in between missions
my favorite camp interaction is when Bill Williamson comes up to you, shoves a phone in your face and says "Oh hey Arthur, have you seen this video? It's really funny, just... it gets funny. Ya just gotta wait for the good part! ... Yeah hold on, it's coming up... Uh, w-wait, is this the right one?... Ah hell! Goddamn piece of shit!"

Trelawny was one of my favorites..he would just dissappear and id forget about him but he would pop up and it made them special moments when playing. He was unique and liked his personality.

I stumbled across his house in St Denis and heard him arguging with his family. It was 2am and I was under the influence of cannabis and I thought I was tripping.
That voice actor starred and co-wrote the film Session 9 which is pretty damn good

No video game had ever made me that emotionally invested until Red Dead Redemption 2.
It was a brilliant story.
The only other times a game did that, was Red Dead Redemption 1, and Telltales The Walking Dead season 1, and a few others.

@@ruty_bolzga424 if you’re not transphobic then why did you call it a transgender tragedy.. it’s a tragedy alright but not in the way you think.. the trans character in it is such a minor part of the game and it’s never actually explicitly said he’s trans.. it’s not a forced agenda or anything like that it’s a perfectly reasonable decision as in a normal world, shocker, there’s actually a lot of trans people.. I’m actually surprised there wasn’t more than one trans person in the game
One detail that is hard to miss in the game is when at the end, when Dutch and the rest of the gang are pointing their guns at Arthur and John, Javier is the only one who points the gun up in the air. Kind of showing a little resistance of turning on his fellow gang brothers.

Gabriel, the actor that plays Javier said in a panel that he had to fight for it too. He had to convince Rockstar that it wouldn't make sense for Javier to betray his brothers, Arthur and John.
That makes it worse honestly. He could've helped but instead chose the side with access to the money and then didn't even help them either. Passive SOB
@@gothxm It really doesn't make it worse. It makes it so much better. Javier personified blind loyalty throughout the entire story. No matter how bad, how crazy, how immoral, how petty and how irrational Dutch and his decisions became, Javier stood by him AND he tried to convince everyone around him to be just as loyal. For him to doubt his ambition and his loyalty in the end because it would force him to kill his two brothers is just amazing character development
The voice actors seem like such genuine people. I actually was going to play red dead online with the voice actor for young jack (running w the gang) once, but we were on different consoles. Such a cool interaction

Knowing that all of Uncle's singing is still John O'Creagh makes the scene where the trio drink together after the barn is built so bittersweet. I always tear up a bit when I get to that part in my playthroughs.

Amazing how they placed the veteran at O'Creaghs run. You connected with the veteran, and when you can consider him as a friend, you lose him. I got the feeling that is not by accident, knowing R*.
Start of the game: Haha fun western survival shooter. End of the game: *sobbing intensifies*

Rockstar seems to do that quite often. Almost every character in the main cast very closely or exactly resembles their character. It's a great way to sell a character especially with performance capture.

I always wondered if he had that epic mustache beforehand or if he just grew it out of fondness for his role. Amazing actor. Surprised he hasn't gotten any more prominent roles since.

This is really well put together! Hearing Ben Davis talk about crying after leaving Arthur on the cliff is always really sad to me, but I think I remember him saying that one of the very last scenes he did was the fishing trip with Arthur and Hosea, so he got to end his story on a happy note.

For me, it was pretty heartwarming to know that Dutch cried over Arthur dying, coz it showed he still did care about him. To add to that, if you look very very carefully you can actually see Dutch on the verge of crying from 16:49 - 16:51. It's so subtle.

I have never once in my life *mourned* the death of a fictional character. But when Arthur lied there, wheezing his last breath, staring at the rising sun, oh how I cried. Oh how I missed him as I played as John Marston. I had to stop for a while and think and sit on what I just played through. I wanted Arthur Morgan back so much. Every little piece of this game came together so absolutely perfectly, all serving their purpose to a fine T. I will never hate Rockstar, even with their gross mishandling of Red Dead Online, because I know what they can do now. I know what they are capable of. And I love them for it.
Well done, guys. Seriously. I love you all.
I wrote RIP Arthur Morgan with a cross in my diary just like Arthur would when his friend dies. Felt like a ritual was necessary to say goodbye to Arthur. But still can’t let him go.
This is somewhat a late reply but I kinda felt the need to say that although I didn't cry, I was sad but more than that I was very angry. After some point in the game, most players (including me) thought that Arthur was going to die but I just hoped maybe he would survive. But on top of all the important and minor characters that died before him, they (Rockstar Games) just had to kill him too. I was really angry at them and I swore at them for about 2 minutes.
I never had a game make me cry till rdr2 when i played arthur as a bad guy n they killed my fav horse n then watch him die.. i was devastated....
Agreed there is only 1 other game that legitimately made me cry at the end. I knew for sure Authur would die when he was coughing before the dr told him, even though it was a blind playthrough, i was convinced he had TB then the dr confermed it. So i was expecting him to die, but never expected it would make me cry as he weesed on the cliffs edge. Doubt I'll ever be able to finish the game again knowing how much it wripped my heart out to watch that cut scene.
Covid had a lot to deal with the online bein mishandle... n because the media wants a race riot from George Floyd Rockstar had to drop the releases for GTA n RDR2.... N it sucks cause RDR2 had so much potential.. i was waiting to rob banks with a group or solo buy houses and properties..

It’s also a classic case the nicest guy playing the bad guy everyone hates, from what I have watched of other RDR2 interviews everyone loves Peter Blomquist saying he’s the nicest guy ever playing the most detestable character ever, same thing happened in game of thrones with Joffrey’s actor Jack Gleason, honestly the sweetest guy you’d ever met playing an inbred lunatic king
I really wish we could have seen Dutch crying as he walked away from Arthur. I feel like knowing that he felt something from it would have added to the satisfaction of him shooting Micah
I don’t think he would’ve cried right then, maybe years later when he knew he made the wrong decision. I think at the time he was just so conflicted
that and john crying for the first time ever when aurthur gives his hat to him tho
I disagree. That would show the old Dutch and his regret wich would probably make a lot of people happy. It would kinda outbalance the sadness of the scene
But, in the credits they could have shown Dutch at his grave, or show Dutch taking a look at Johns new ranch, or he watches how John rides back with the money, with Sadie and Charles. That would boost the satisfaction of the ending and doesn’t affect Arthur’s death scene

People in those days never cried. I remember my father who died a couple of years ago at the age of 90. He told me he never saw his father or mother crying in all his life, and they had shitty lives. I only once saw my father cried in all my life and he really was at the end of his rope. I am half native American and all my ancestors on both sides weren't the kind of people to show their emotions. And boy it was not because we never saw people dying or not having problems...
5:11 I’m so glad Roger Clark got the role as Arthur! Truly one of my favorite acting performances! I can’t imagine anyone else as Arthur
As far as storytelling in games go this was by far the best story I ever had the privilege of playing through. I was very much brought to tears as Arthur lay dying on the mountainside staring at his sunrise. Never in my thirty-five years of playing video games have I ever been so emotionally involved with a character. I can't say enough good things about this game
The first time I played through I sobbed like a baby when Arthur was thanking and saying goodbye to his dying horse. He was riding Old Beule which made it even sadder because he had promised to look after him after The Veteran died.

I had Buell too. Even though he was the best horse in the game, it only felt right. Hamish was a real one.

The guy who played Bill killed it in his monologue! I’m glad they kept his take for the final version. That monologue actually made me really feel for Bill. That character is just a broken man with a lot of heart to give. Not just a meathead who “implores” you to go back a bring someone more impressive (lol). Great job to everyone!!
I didn't know Peter Blomquist played Dr. Fontaine in LA Noire until a few weeks ago. What a talented actor.
That's funny because as soon as I looked up the actor that plays Micah, I immediately knew it was him haha. I had played LA Noire in its entirety a few times before RDR2.
What? I've been watching RDR2 stuff for weeks now, and I've literally JUST finished binge watching LA noire. Did not realize there's a Micah voice there...
@Bobby Papoutsis LA Noire used performance capture as well (though a slightly different kind) so it wasn't just voice, but full body and face too!
Either that or he's actually a total monster in real life so doesn't have to act much to play such characters!
I have played LA Noire through thrice, about to finish RDR2 for the 2nd time, and I had no idea it was the same guy. Genuinely impressive
Now hearing that Dr. speak, He does sound quite similar to Micah
I wish we would see more of Curzon Dobell (Hosea), his character and performance were incredible.
His death hurt me so much, even more than Sean, and I didn’t think that was possible.
The fact that Micah is as widely despised as a character as he is just shows how well Peter was able to personify that role. They all deserve oscars for these character roles. Voice and mocap actors are so talented they really have to sell the scene with their emotions and it comes through beautifully
he did great as micah, but i think he even did better as dr harlaine fontaine in la noire. basically the same character but much more sophisticated. muuuuuuuch more. this guy can act.
I love how passionate these people are about the series. It makes me happy that everyone wants to largely what contribute to this game and it's what made it so great. Especially that addition where Bill talks about how he first met Dutch.

@@kaneunmaskedal Yeah Dan Houser who’s one of the founders of Rockstar has been the lead writer on most of their games since Gta 3. Since Gta 4 they’ve had the same group of writers.

For me the saddest part was when Arthur started to remember the words of people he helped as he was riding to beaver hollow, also every time he told either John or Charles to run and don’t look back made me tear up, it seemed like Arthur felt completely stuck in a situation that he couldn’t get out of but gets a piece of mind when he remembers that all though he did bad he also helped out many people, therefore he died satisfied and at the same time empty.

I had no idea they had to physically act out the scenes. I always just pictured them in a sound booth reading off random lines that got out together later.

@Bobby Papoutsis they're not in front of a green screen. They're in a mocap studio, filled with tons of cameras, and microphones. If you look up The last of us motion capture on here, you'll get a better understanding of what it looks like when they film.
They have always do mocap, as early during GTA 5 development.
12:35 it's so cool to see that the actors and the charachters they perfom aren't that different. i mean sitting quietly doing crosswords puzzles is so Dutch

After playing this game for so many hours it's surreal to hear the characters' voices coming from real people on video. Seeing this kind of video makes you realise the incredible effort they all put in to make this game and makes you really appreciate what a masterpiece it is.

It's incredible how Rockstar made us all get emotional for a tragic end of the story of some fictional thieves and murderers, where we would have been happy if nowadays a dangerous Gang like the Van der Linde gang would be shut down.
Played the game about 8 or 9 times and I still get a little emotional, amazing Game😢😍

I really like that they make the characters look like their real life actors for the most part. It gives it a sense of realism and it lives on in a way after the game.
As an actor, by far my favorite part of acting is the relationships you build with your fellow actors and actresses. The respect and love that everyone has for each other makes me miss acting whenever I’m not working on something performance related.
The thought of a RDR3 game where there's another prequel, getting to see Arthur young again and getting to know what happened in the black water massacre, really gives me the will to live for the next 10 years for when they announce that its coming. And that says a lot about how this game affected me

He's incredible. I first saw him in LA Noire and and when I found out he plays Micah in this, I was very impressed. He's very versatile.

I've been gaming since the mid 80's...This game sits at the very top with a few others as the greatest ever. Such a remarkable achievement not only in gaming, but in story telling. Can't praise it enough.

I love seeing Tilly’s actress’ expressions because Tilly uses her eyes a lot in game when expressing. So amazing and so so glad they did mo cap
This clip makes me realize that this story is 100% accurate. Maybe not to each individual character, but in the summation of the human experience this story has played out across countless people in the late 18th century.

It’s crazy to imagine the actors for Dutch, Micah and Arthur to be a group of good friends. It’s always heartwarming stuff like that that makes me really happy.
Micah’s actor was in the L.A. Noire game as the doctor?! Nice 👍. I just noticed that he looks like both characters. With his mustache he looks like Micah. With a shaved face, he looks like the doctor.

This was the first game that got me emotionally invested. It had mead at other characters, had me sad and shedding some tears in some scenes. I've played the whole game multiple times and still feel the same emotions. Absolutely beautiful game
I feel like John should’ve Atleast shed a tear because he knew Arthur, the only person that was there for him at that moment was going to die to save him

The way that Dutch and ben both raise their hands in sync at 3:54 is a thing of beauty!! I freaking love every aspect of this game !!! I've always been a CZcams gamer , much preferred watching People play but this game genuinely changed my gaming life and I'm on my 2nd full play through after months just free roaming on my hubbies chapter 3 game. I know I need to try other games but I just cant let go yet 😂
the scene where Arthur loses his horse ripped my heart out of my chest, would be insane to see that motion capture scene, i'd probably sob again over it. then immediately losing Arthur, too. i was numb for a week. never felt like that from a video game in my life. rock star really killed it with this game, and everybody involved.
I am so impressed with how different Roger's speaking voice is from Arthur's.
it's easy to forget how long it took them to make the game, i mean Roger was cast five years before it came out, to me thats crazy

i remember reading a story that the reason cats appear so little in the game is that cats refused to wear the Mo-cap suits so they found it near impossible to get the work done lol
Mind blown by the fact Dr Harlan Fontaine and Micah Bell are played by the same actor. Seems so obvious when it's pointed out. Two great performances

Movies used to be this good, now it seems that the talent and effort is in video games. They all deserve an Oscar for this. I could sit back and watch this as a movie over and over. If, I could stop playing long enough. My hats off to everyone who worked on this project. You made people cry at a video game who would not cry at a movie!

I never was so anxious to continue the story in a game like i was playing rdr2. I played the whole game without any spoilers and it was such an amazing experience I never had before playing any other game. You really start to care for the gang and feel the pain when everything slowly deteriorates at the end.
Man this one video made me appreciate the game so much more hearing the compassion love and hard work that all these voice actors put into this project really brings a tear to my eye

The worst game of all time
when arthur says "see you around john marston" when he goes for the money i balled my eyes out. and when john says "you're my brother" and arthur goes "i know" i also balled my eyes out this is such a amazing game and it's so amazing that i got emotionally attached to each and every character. my hatred for micah my love for arthur and john the confusion i witnessed with dutch and the sadness when each and every character died i felt like that person was real and died in real life. these actors completely brought these characters to life
13:50 I said this in an other video before but the shoot-out where someone of the gang got killed (no spoilers xd), Micah drew his guns so freaking fast.. I had to replay that a couple of times becausr if that was performance capture, he really is an amazing gun slinger
