- How to change the oil and oil filter on a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado. This is the 5.3L v8 engine. It is the same exact procedure for the 2019 model and a very similar procedure for earlier years.

Great video! Always great to have something like this to watch before you do the oil change yourself so you don't miss any steps. Thank you.
Glad I could help!
Nice I gonna do my very first oil change on 2020 Chevy 👍😁
Perfect instructional video. I've been changing oil on all my cars, but just got this one and wanted to know where the filter and plug are. Really helpful. You're also the first person I've seen who suggests to wipe the rubber gasket of the filter with oil. I learned that from my father in law. Definitely a good tip.
Thanks!
After pouring from 5 quart jug, pour second 5 quart jug into empty jug and measure 3 quarts on the side of first jug. Easy way to measure with 2 quarts left over for next change.
Why not get exactly 8 qt. Instead of getting 2 gal (1gal is 5gt.) Now you have left over oil

Great video! Thanks man👍
Glad it was helpful!
What's the deal with the dexos gen 2. I get the manual ask for it but what's the difference from reg oil?
I will be doing my second oil change in a few weeks. My truck will have probably 12.500 miles on the odometer by then, right now the life system shows 28% left, The first oil change was done at the dealership at 5,500 miles. I will be replacing the stock drain bolt with a Fumoto Quick Release valve. This will speed up and make the draining process a little cleaner. This is the same size engine as my 2006 Silverado, but it holds 2 more quarts of oil. I was lucky Sams Club took back all the 5w-30 and let me exchange them for the 0w-20 Mobil 1...Good thing because I had 15 cases of the 5w-30 Mobil 1...I will be up-loading a video to show how to change out the Fumoto drain Valve.
5w30 wont hurt these engines. Ow20 is only used to reduce the amount of oil on the rotating mass in an attempt to raise mpgs
BigTyronie that’s typically the case. Hi were, this is the new DFM. I would go With the recommended grade as the AFM uses a oil pressure as a component of the algorithms.
Thank you for this … all the other videos don’t even compare to yours ..
Glad I could help, and thanks! I associate that!
So I did my oil and filter, and put in 8 quarts, one 5 quart jug and 3 one quart jugs, and ran the motor for a minute. I checked the dip stick, and it looked full. Oil all the way up on the cross hatching, but when I wiped it of and stuck it back in, and then pulled it out, there was no oil on the stick. But then I started the engine for 15 seconds and checked again, and there was oil on the stick again, and it read full. Any reason for that?
Does the oil filter matter? Like the size or the different numbers? I have a 2020 2.7 silverado
Perfect! Thanks!
Super helpful thank you
Glad I could help!
Idk shit about cars!!😂🤣 but this video makes me feel confident I can change my oil! Thank you
Glad I could help!
Will this work the same for the Trail Boss edition?
Thank you!
Glad I could help!
is the oil filter under the plastic cover or the metal skid plate. i have z71
No its not
5.3 engines have had oil monitors since the 90’s. It’s called a drain plug.
How in the world have you managed 19.9mpg at 6K miles? My 2020 is at the same mileage but I’m averaging 15mpg. Do you spend a lot of miles on the highway? I didn’t buy the truck for it’s superb gas mileage, but any tips to save a bit here and there would be appreciated. Great video
Good catch! A decent amount of those miles are highway (probably about 70%). My main thing is I don't accelerate very fast and try to keep it under 2k rpm at all times. When driving only city on one tank i think i got under 14 mpg.
@@Handy-Mann the best way to drive at low rpms
my 2020 5.3 has got up to 23.1 on the highway
Cool! What grade gas ⛽ do you run?
87 regular pump ⛽️
How’d you hit 34mpg? Highest I’ve been able to hit is 24.6 mpg
That 34 mpg wasn't for an entire tank, I think that was just for a gallon or something haha. But I almost always keep it under 2k rpms (even on acceleration), live in a fairly flat area, drive probably 30-40% city and 60-70% highway and use cruise control a lot. Just rolled over 20k miles and my lifetime mpg is right around 19 mpg.
I have 39.8 as my best. I think it was a glitch. I have the 2.7t silverado, insert joke here 😆.
is Quaker state your preferred oil..or is it a cost thing
It's a cost thing. I know everyone argues about the best oil/ brand, but I figure as long as it meets or exceeds manufacturer specs and I'm consistent on my oil changes then I should be good.
walmart oil supertech oil will do just fine, i've been using supertech since the 90's all my trucks/cars went over 200k miles no engine oil issues
I would argue that the AC Delco filter is better than the Fram you have
WIX is better than those two.
@@99wallygator I agree
Fram and wix filter are JUNK! use oem ac delco filters.
@@Luckky-13 The FRAM Ultra is much better made then the old Orange Extra Guard. The AC Delco filters are made by Champ Labs now, which is owned by the same parent company that makes FRAM. AC Delco filters are not Premium filters any more.
Run 5w20. Your engine will thank you in the long run.
What grade gas do you run in 2020 silverado 5.3?

@@upnorth5465 thanks
it all depends on what the climate is where you live. If your in Arazona or California 5W 20 is fine. If your in the Nothern states and Canada, use 0W20. If you have ever fired up a truck or car when its -20F to -40F out, 0 W oil is pure magic!
Bro get that FRAM filter off of that amazing truck. FRAM is junk
Fram oil filters are JUNK!
use ac delco filters
I disagree
@@AntLive29 JUNK!
@@Luckky-13 Fram is NOT junk!
both are junk filter
Fram filters are complete trash and by the way they most often do not meet GM's warranty guidelines.
Whenever given the chance go with a Napa filter they're made by wix and they do comply with GM's filtration guidelines to maintain warranty You want to at least use the Napa gold which exceeds GM's filtration guidelines.
Fram uses cardboard inserts
Don't forget to pour the engine oil into your oil filter
