Mortske - your relationship with Duff is a lot like my relationshiip with my big 'ol back tomcat, Stormy. Many animals are a lot smarter than we give them credit for. Because you spend a lot of time with Duff, where it's just the two of you and nobody else is around, and because you talk to him, Duff understands much of what you say. Even if he doesn't understand your exact words, Duff understands the tone of your voice. My cat, Stormy, goes so far as to answer me. He has a "yes" meow and a "no" meow.
K5 blazer was good stuff. That sounded pretty strong . R.v. cam mabe? My dad and i got a stock car from a flooded feild for the block to rebuild .it was under waterall summer into fall per owner. We dissected the starter drained everything .it shot water 50 ft. From sparkplug holes,lol! We got it running.ill never forget the smell of field and creek flood water residual burnoff ,it was so bad,lol! Good times👍🏻👍🏻
I save all the bolts, nuts, screws and washers. Sometimes you find some good ones by the railroad tracks when you're walking the dogs. They never seem to be the right size, though...

my dad had a new edge mustang when i was in preschool in the early 2000s. he did a routine oil change on it and drove it down the road to run some errands. all of a sudden he loses complete oil pressure and the car turns off. he hadn’t checked to see if the o ring was stuck onto the engine. he towed it home, put new oil in it, and made sure to avoid the old o ring. the car started up and was perfectly fine after the old o ring was removed
As a young mechanic a thousand years ago I was doing oil changes for a big ass chain. I double sealed a Mercedes. Lucky for me I still had it on the lift but she pumped a full qt onto the ground between start up, walking around to check under the hood and running back to the ignition. No harm no foul just the Exon Valdez grounded on my bay floor.
Mid 70's Chevy K5 Blazers are now the hottest collectible.The 350 V8 sounded nice. Nothing wrong with leaving it 2 wheel drive.This will be a nice rig all restored to mint factory. Perfect for car shows. Starting the engine just made the overall value go up from $200 to $2500. Needs new dashboard. For push rods, insert metal guitar strings to clear out oiling hole.
Back in 91, I was a new hire on Midnight shift for Delta here in Atlanta. I was on my way in to work, while in the fast lane on I-75 (6 lanes wide each direction back then) I lost oil pressure... not fun playing Frogger in the dark!!! Luckily I figured out real quick what the problem was, removed the "extra seal" dumped in the couple of qts that I had and back on "The Atlanta Motor Speedway". When I finally got to work, my Foreman says, "Son, you always keep an extra filter and oil in the vehicle"... mind you, this Cat was probably turning wrenches with Orville and Wilbur up in Kitty Hawk. Anyway, valuable lesson learned for sure!
It lives again! Good one showing the real world, just for fun trying to get it going with as little as possible turning out to be more work and parts than you planned for....but after it's all said and done...it is "satisfying." Yeah Duff!

I've never done the double-gasket on the oil filter thing but my younger brother has. Started up and you could hear it squirting out. Easy fix and another half a quart later and now he checks every time. Took some time before the grass in that part of the yard grew back, lol.
First garage I ever worked out I was 15 years old. We had put a salvage yard engine and a customer's vehicle. And I was told to change the oil. And a double gasketed that f*****. Fortunately the motor didn't get hurt but my boss was pissed
I haven't see anybody else fess up re. the double oil filter seal, so that must just be you Mortske! While I've not done that actual thing, I did have a 1960 Dodge Dart that used the cartridge type filters and it seemed just too easy to misalign the canister/housing. Good thing I guess is that it'd start dribbling immediately on startup, so you'd know right away.

I had a 74 Chev. Blazer that had a truck 4 speed in it, I loved that truck! I got it cheap because it only ran on 5 cylinders but ran fine once I straightened out the firing order,

I doubled up a oil filter gasket when I was working at the GMC Cadillac dealership in Waco, TX on a GMC Terrain. When I started that thing up it took me a a few 30 seconds to realize my mistake when the massive puddle of oil had reached my feet near the drivers door. Good times 👍🏻
Well, look at that, eh? A locked Chev engine sitting for 29 years. No exhaust, no cooling system (except what water is left in the oil galleries), no keys, no rocker covers, no decent starter.......no problem! Chev be like "I got me some spark - where's the hot sauce?" Seven cylinders is better than 5 or less and it's seven more than she was firing on when she was pushed into the garage. Can't keep the old Chev down....but I'm still rapt to watch her come alive and sing - AND she hit the high notes too! Yep - when the engine in my Stag finally goes bye-bye, a carburetted 350 is what she'll be getting. At least then I know she will always start!

The double oil filter gasket saga....One day a young man decided to to the right thing and change the oil and filter on his 1967 SS 396 Camaro for an upcoming date with big RedHead Tonya.All gos as planned. Fire her up, the car, not Tonya! Motor down the block to the local Gas-In-Go to top off the Tank and noticed the slight smell of Castor 30 WT. Thought nothing of it and pulled out of the Station gave her the Onions and made it about half a block motor starts missing and dies! Get out and a Washington State Trooper walks up and says I see your having a little oil problem as he points to the Oil Slick from my house the the Gas-and Go! Yeah fond memories! Time for a sammich!

I learned about filter gaskets sticking to the block when I was working for Penske/Kmart auto repair. Little old lady's K car puked the gasket 5 miles from the shop and she continued to drive it until seizure.

I learned about filter gaskets sticking to the block when I was working for Penske/Kmart auto repair.
Little old lady's K car puked the gasket 5 miles from the shop and she continued to drive it until seizure.
