- I pulled this 1960 Ford Ranch Wagon from a private salvage yard in the fall of 2020. The Ranch Wagon is the lower trim package for the 1960 Ford wagons and this one came equipped with the OHV inline 6 cylinder and column shifted 3 speed manual transmission. The floors are pretty soft but it's mostly complete. I do have a clear title in my name for the car. If you think you can't live without this thing it's available for $3,000 USD in the shape you see it in this video.

Archimedes once said, "Give me a lever long enough and I can move the world!"
Apparently he never saw this engine.
You have a big old grandma butt
Good grief! That has to be my favorite Ford of all time. 60s are incredibly rare. And their values are off the charts.
Indeed but my dad's 1973 buick century Gran Sport 350 is even rarer. Sold during the oil embargo year and my dad only saw one when he got his. Never saw another after 1973. Starting to go up in value but sadly my dad's was so badly rusted it had to be scrapped. Still sad about that and looking for another one to build a tribute car from.
To quote Scott Newstead from "Cold War Motors": this car is rare, and nobody cares.
@@eddyhouchins5508 unfortunatel its true. Though they are gaining attention finally but too little too late. Still miss my dads car so youre partly right and partly wrong. I miss it and I care and dont care what anyone else thinks. I like what I like and dont give fuck if anyone else cares. Im too old and tough to give any extra fucks. LOL!
Off the charts!? As in half the value of a comparable Chevrolet? 🤣🤣🤣 sorry, just had to get that jab in there.
@@jmswyo true!
The '60 wagon was really a one-year-only body style. They never put the 170 C.I. engine in the full-sized cars because it just didn't develop enough power. They used the 223 "I-block" engine instead. Nice find, Thomas.
Yeah, the 170 sucked. It wasn't even enough motor for the Falcons it came in. The 200 in Mustangs, later Falcons, Mavericks, and Fairmonts wasn't much better. The 250 was ok though.
@@donellmuniz590 I guess a 170 would be OK if you stuck water-methanol injection on it and advanced the timing, but who's gonna want to do that?
@@101Volts Nah, the 170 did fine, the 144 is what sucked, it was an odd one however. Mine got mid to high 30s for mileage in town but would drop to high 20s on highway.
Tickled to recall Dad bought a 4 yr. old one. Original owner; after having all external cooling parts replaced thought it had an internal engine problem, because it ran hotter than it should. Dad bought it from him it for a song as I remember. As a mechanic he found that the fan was just been installed backward. It had a salty V8 automatic in it. Obligements to you & the Duff. Top notch entertainment every post.
That vaguely reminds me of my Grandpap telling me that when he bought a new Ford in the mid 50s (I forget when; 1955, give or take a year.) He was driving it home with only maybe 100 miles on it, then the idiot light turned on. He idled it home, and he later found that the oil filter wasn't on tight enough.
@@101Volts Now days not making that one complete click on the gas cap, can trigger that check engine meme.
Wow, this is a ford sunliner wagon. When I was a tike in the early sixties, there was a breadman that made deliveries door to door in those days, and he carried a metal basket with loaves of bread, cookies and maybe donuts. He drove this wagon I remember and it was brown.
Love the cars from the late 50s and early 60s. The designers just went wild. I think it's proof that even
back then some people were smoking some really good stuff. Sure to be another good one with
Mortske and Duff!
Love the 60 wagon, my grandfather drove one .We kids would all go to church with him, All eleven of us, tight but alot fun
Holy buckets thats a load!
The FE Engine was an option for that year wagon. 58 Was the first year for the FE Series. That straight six is probably the 223.
Yeah, FE stood for Ford/Edsel, and Edsel debuted as a 58 model. The MEL (Merc/Edsel/Lincoln) series included a 368, 430, and later a 462. And though it was labeled as a Merc-Edsel-Lincoln engine, the 430 was also an option in Thunderbirds in 59-60.
@@donellmuniz590 I didn't know FE stood for Ford/Edsel. I did know about the MEL. TheCorvetteBen did a rustoration on an Edsel and had to find some parts for a MEL and they were hard to find, and expensive.
223 six, 292 Y block 332 352 FE .
This is one of my all-time favorites. My Dad bought one, new in 1960. It was supposed to be that same color, but the salesman made a mistake and it came in Meadowvale Green. Looked kinda like Pea Soup, but it grew on us.
Mortske, you now have my full attention....
Haha I know the color you are referencing!! Easy to find in the parking lot! Thanks for watching Jeff!
My parents had one of these Ranch Wagons when I was very young (I’m 65). It had what my Dad said was Ford’s smallest V8. I have memories of sitting in that back seat with my younger brother for hours while Mom and Dad went shopping. We made sure to get in lots of trouble 😅
“You two besties probably planned to both post wagons”. I can hear the comments already.
Hey my brotha. Both of you guys put out some good stuff. Cheers from SoCal

That old “6” was locked up tighter than a drum. Though you did save it from an eventual trip to the crusher. 2 👍👍 up for that. Could be a nice father n son project, Just needs a few bucks snd a new ticker to get the old girl going. Always enjoyable to watch your vids Mortske n Duff
Thanks for being real. Failures, screw ups and all. There is a lack of genuine content on the "interwebs" and I appreciate good content when I find it.
Apparently I'm the only once experiencing these!
We visited a ranch one time in southern Alberta. The manager gave a tour around the sprawling place in what else, a 1960 Ford Ranch Wagon. No roads, just rangeland.😊
Nice
The deluxe house brick sold it for me!.. thanks man, the lingo keeps me glued... with no beer breaks,
Top tube... Ian.
Not weird at all ! I remember when those were new ! I always thought they were beautiful , and still do . Just never see a 1960 . Good find .
When that cylinder popped💥 😂🤣😂You owe me a sip of coffee it's all over the dash in my rig🤣
It owes me a pair of drawers!

Your coolest car of all time! The Draggin" Wagon! You don't see 1960 Ford wagons every day! You never see these! This is rare!
You are right!
Hey Mortske; love those old wagons of the 50's and 60's they had style. In my opinion; which is not be worth much, but once you pull that old boat anchor out drop a 352 or a 390 or maybe go big and drop a 460 and mate them up with a 4 speed top loader they would go nicely with that 9 inch. Keep doing what your doing; love the old cars you have and if I didn't live in Nova Scotia, Canada I'd buy that wagon or one of your other cool vehicles for my 15 yr old son and I to wrench on. Thanks; and keep the videos coming and stay safe.
Thanks much Dexter!
I just subscribed! Hope you fix that 223 and get it running! My father had a black 1960 Country Squire with red interior.
Humorous and educational!
Thanks!
Thanks much for the kind words and for subbing Richard!
The FE came out in 58' and in 60' it was an option ,, 352 with 3 speed cruiseomatic was the top drivetrain for that wagon..
I believe that FEs were 332 in 58
@@daviduglem3213 That's almost correct,,, there was 332'S and 352'S in 58' and 59',,, the 332 went away for 60'.
There were three versions of 352's in 60'..
Wagons; my favorite 20th century American cars, make no exception. Darn right I'm "wagon my tail about it."
Great find! My first car was a very plain Jane 1960 2 door sedan, I don’t remember ever seeing a 1960 wagon! I think this is worth saving.👍
Wagons are whippin asses on this Monday.
Damn skippy they is! Great minds think alike. And so do ours!!
I enjoy your upbeat attitude and wit. Then again, anyone who can survive a North Dakota winter needs a positive attitude!
Editing makes me look like I enjoy this stuff!
If you have a stuck engine put hot automatic transmission fluid and Gibbs into it. It will not unsize it straight away but after 24 there is 70% change the engine will unsize. 30% it is just a hopeless case.
1960 ranch wagon YARD ART!, the reason old Fords are hard too redo is people use them , they are worn out when parked. tnere is nothing left, i know ive rescued hundreds of them in my life, but at least you tried, thank you fer that, so on with the next one, and i will be watching from a distance.
Seriously dig the styling on this. What a cool old wagon. Sad to see it's so far gone, probably not many of them left. Even if you aren't the one to save it, hopefully it will avoid the crusher a little longer. Love the vids as always, keep up the good work. 👍
Love that body style! A FE would be perfect in it.
My dad ran a junk yard in Pennsylvania and one of our cars there was a 52 Ford Ranch Wagon in two tone blue and white. We drove the car a few years before my dad put it in the yard. I think the newest car in the yard was a 62 Pontiac Tempest wagon. Had many cars like a 51 Henry J, 32 Model A, 38 Plymouth, and many other ones I wish I had today.
Dang! I was hoping you could get that one going, but you are right about not messing with that motor anymore. That car needs a V8 for sure. Those wagons are getting pretty popular, at least where I live, and that one is not something you will see every day. Thanks for another entertaining video.
I'd have been amazed to see something like that on the road back in 1982, lol. I'm sure the last one I saw on the road around here was a neighbor's who had one back when I was about 5 years old in 1973, LOL!
Good to hear a little I've been everywhere. I remember hearing that song as a pup when Johnny sang it and then I went and lived it and one day I was listening real close and after being OTR I'd been everywhere that's when I semi-retired with a semi
Good stuff!
Great car to use for a project. Love the old Ford's and just about any station wagon. Snow!. 101 today here in Mesa Az
I love the old styling
Kool Old Station Ford Station Wagon! Love The Front End Nice Grill!
Sure had some style back then!
My folks had a 60 with a 352 police interseptor engine. We moved fron Amarillo tx Colo in 64. That joker hauled butt.
My father had a 58 wagon with the interseptor
Love those old wagons road trips as kids all 6 of us piled in the back
That new intro is fire, please keep it. Excellent video as always brotha!
ive always had a soft spot for wagons..... growing up in the 70s, riding up to the Thousand islands in the waay back of grandpas big caprice estate making faces at the drivers behind us :)
Right on!
I missed this vid watching it now. I love wagons
Mortske Monday's with a Ford! It doesn't get much better than that.
My great grandfather Roy Shires had a 1960 Ford. He was born in the late 1880's so he was old when he got it. I loved that car. The rear tail lights were so incredible! That car had style! Today, 2021, they are the rarest of the rare, and this is a wagon!!! that's even more rare!!! Mortske should definately find a 1958-1976 FE V8-medium-block Ford/Edsel
1958-1971 Generation I (332/352/360/361/390)
1962-1973 Generation II (406/410/427/428)
1965-1968 Ford 427 side oiler
Build this up as a 427 V-8 drag car, street to strip!!!!A dragstrip is a facility for conducting automobile and motorcycle acceleration events such as drag racing. Although a quarter mile, 1320 feet, is the best known measure for a drag track. 1/4 of a mile.
Really not easy this time. Thanks to share.
I may just have to work from home today! Too hard to watch while working!😂
Sorry Nancy!!
@@MortskeRepair Don’t be! I like working from home!
Nice. Love them old wagons.
Get you a couple of seat cover and some hub caps and grandpa can take the grandkids for ice cream.
Nice station wagon.
Put a small block in it and it'll make someone a nice little wagon.
I like the duct tape chrome gas pedal.
Nice touch.
👍🤓
Dee what are the hubcaps good for "absolutely nothing " so why mention it ( they are covers? Covering what) would you cover THE HEAD LIGHTS or tail pipe? So hubcaps are useless
I LOVE wagons. I'll watch this.
I just finished all your videos last night and was thinking $hit, I’m out of stuff to watch. Then just now I got a notification that you have another one!!! Happy birthday to me!!!
Thanks for watching all my shenanigans!
I had a 60 Ford when first married. I loved that car, 292/8 automatic with air. A very good car and a very good car to drive. The funny looks made it where you could drive it on the highway in a strong wind and it did not swerve around like most cars did. I know people who have smaller apartments than the trunk. An over all great car.
Looking forward to Monday morning!
I had a neighbor in the early 60,s who had a 60 ranch wagon , he used it for his his hardwood floor installations.later on he got dimensia and use to come out to my 69 roadrunner and rub a tree branch on the trunk lid. Scratched the crap out of my paint. They finally put him away rest in peace mr berger pearsons.
Hey man you gave it all you got, but She's Dead Jim.
More videos from the coolest guy on youtube! LOVE IT!
Haha thanks much Nuke!
Thank you. Interesting project.
Our pleasure!
Love the late 50’s early 60’s wagons! Cool old car. That’d be a neat car to drive across the country with a 4bt and a 5 speed! Keep it up Mortske!
I never thought of a deezel option!
That is an amazing score!
Always happy to see Mortske Monday! Tuff one this time and I didn't see Duff in the first half. I was relieved to see him later. All you got for this one was a couple sammichs a sore elbow and bruised knuckles. Hopefully you'll get some good cake for it.
Duff was missing thats why the silent beginning. I think we all like obscure stuff. I saw that wagon in your junkyard tour and I thought "he should get that"
Awesome Ford wagon! I'm restoring a '60 Edsel wagon that probably came off the same assembly line. The same body but with a 292.
There is just something about old machines and cars that gets me right in the chestal feellation device.
Every time I see a FRAM filter on a machine of any kind I almost feel the urge to say a prayer or something. I not even religious in the slightest.
Yeah, things went downhill with Fram.
It's a WAGON. YOUHAVE TO SAVE IT. Your good man.
You no what you need is a car lift! Love your videos!
You win some you lose some. Enjoyed the video. Love those old cars!
Glad you enjoyed it Steve!
That was the family wagon for 10 years. Great wagon! Ford country sedan. Loved it. I haven't seen any on the road in 25 years. You'll see it in the James Bond movie From Russia With Love. Cool.
And it had the big 390 V8. Hauled ass.
When I was a lad, we had a 1960 Ford Country Squire wagon for a year or two. It was black with fake woody sides, V8 automatic, and 3rd row seating. Distinctive front end and odd shaped tail lights. Rear glass hatch was held closed by the tailgate. When the heater core started leaking my father had the mechanic plug the heater hoses.
Those woody wagons are the best!
Love the intro why - block explosion rocks!!
WOW,Wow,wow! CANNOT WAIT! I LOVE These OLD FERDS....FoMoCo's..
Some real styling on that old wagon. The back glass being intact is a miracle and rarer than hen's teeth.
LMFAO!! The thing backfires through the spark plug hole LOL!! May that was wild AF
As always good
I would love to see you do more revivals on oddball cars like this. Like I said before, everyone does trucks and muscle cars. While muscle cars might have had lower initial production runs, they have been preserved and restored at a much higher rate than station wagons or commercial utility vehicles. There are likely more muscle cars on the road today than there are of some of these forgotten makes or models. I would like to see someone take an interest in some of these forgotten cars. For instance, my favorite car that I have owned was a '79 Volare. Most people I encountered had either never heard of it, or looked at me like I was crazy for trying to put it back together. I eventually gave up after ten years because I could not find parts anywhere. I would like to see someone take an interest in cars like that before it is too late, and there are none left to fix. BTW, I would love to see you get back to that Monaco.
I'll keep dragging the weird stuff home! Cuz that's what we can afford!
My first car was a '60 Sunliner. Mine had the 352 cid V8, AC, power everything. It was the top of the line. Wish I had it today.
Finally. I want this car. Ill trade you a 55 Oldsmobile for it.
Got so dad gum busy I kept putting off watching. Finally said ENOUGH!! I’m done til I watch!! So my boss fired me, my wife through me out, and my truck broke.... but at least I can now watch h Mortske Monday!!!!!! PERFECT!
When I was 5 we had '60 wagon puke green. I can remember the pie eyed tail lights
Not a Ford guy myself but always loved the look of the 1960 model year fords
I can’t stop laughing!!! That explosion in the cylinder!! Lmfao glad you made it safe
Lemme guess: the old codger that was hoarding these hulks for 40 years FINALLY croaked, and his wife picked up the phone and hollered "GET THIS SHIT OUTA HERE!!!" 🤣 Seen it a hunnerd times. Got a lotta cars that way.
That is a hell of a winch to pull that tank on the trailer
Mortske, see ya Monday evening. Got to work! Big Al
i love those gear wrenches i have a whole set myself
Station Wagons were beastly long ago, more than a family hauler but a real man's vehicle
Rare car. I can definitely see someone street rodding it.
G'DAY MORTSKE, BEST STICK TO THE GEMS,GM giving you better revivals, though was keen to hear that 220 cubic inch engine come y life, for my first utility was a 1964 Ford falcon with inline 6 220Cubic inch,3 on the tree, but as a 12 yr old in 1977, thought it was fantastic! As always, Kindest Regards, Dave McLaughlin Queensland Australia
Man you having to pick up the muffler off that Blazer reminded me of the muffler coming off my '77 Delta 88.. It came lose and went under the rear passengers side tires, and I ran it over doing like 75... Nearly went off the side of Christiansburg mountain here in VA going south down Interstate 81... Oh boy that was fun...
Anyway, awesome wagon man, even got a nice arm rest shelf there for cruising and some singly pinky steering so your left arm can do nothing but wave at the neighborhood.
So cool and different, awesome car!
Love it when you work on the nasty stuff!
My parents had one of those wagons when I was going up. Same colour too, but with a 332 auto.
Put a Big block in it and turn the car into a MAD maxx THUNDERDOME Vehical...spikes and all...Duff would really love that
Wow. So, I was not in on the public's "Selection Process", BUT I'm happy to see it being rescued... We had the SAME car as a kid growing up in the 60s, BUT ours was a dark blue TWO DOOR (yes, confirmed), and even tho the rockers rusted out so bad on ours that the doors barely stayed closed, my Dad couldn't bear to get rid of it - said it was pretty rare, and smacked of a "Nomad" design (ala the '56 Nomad). So, it was parked on the (dirt) floor level of our 150-year old barn, and there it sat... until yes, the barn finally collapsed on it. I always wanted to pull it out before its demise, but, I was too young and stupid (or smart) to do it. We took that car every other weekend to the local drive-in, riding in the back, with the rear window opened up (and I do mean "UP"). Ah thanks for the memories!!! - Bruce
Later on in life, among my many cars growing up, I bought a 1960 2-door Ford sedan that was basically the same body. I want to say it was a Fairlane, but that would be generous. Smoked blue smoke like a chimney whenever I went up a hill and hit the gas (worn out valve guides). And the Windshield wipers were vacuum operated, so they slowed down doing up those same hills.... hahaha Wow, step back in time... that was around 1980, right after high school.
What a beauty💪🤘
Oh boy. Love that igly 60 front. Cant believe yoi arent nuts about that thing. Wagon bug never hit you i guess lol. Looking for a 60 to 62 squire project myself
Man this is slick
It's very entertaining watching you work. Glad you didn't get hurt. Think you might have Fudged your Huggies a bit.
That's for sure! Thanks for watching William!
Great video, Great car my friend.
This is your engine...223 six. It's the second generation and was a newly designed six-cylinder, produced from 1952 through 1964. It shared many parts with Ford Y-blocks such as the entire valve train and the problems associated with the Y-block's lubrication system. These engines have the exhaust and intake on the driver's side and the distributor on the passenger side. It is referred to as Mileage Maker or I-Block Mileage Maker ("I" like In-line) in the passenger cars and Cost Clipper in the trucks.
The 223 cu in (3.7 L) was the only I-6 cylinder motor offered in the Fairlane (until 1961), Galaxie, and F-series trucks between 1955-1964, Causing it to be not quite a rarity, but not easy to come across. The 223 cu in (3.7 L) I-6 was also used in 1963-1964 Ford trucks which also used the Autolite 1100 carburetor with stamping C4TF-E and produced 145 hp (108 kW) with 206 ft-lbs of torque, and Mercury Meteor-Monterey in 1961. The 223 was also used in Onan 30EC generator sets and possibly others.
Displacement was 223 cu in (3,653 cc) and horsepower was 145 hp.
What's good about watching Mortske? You get to watch someone else bang their knuckles on some raggedy-ass old car, and every once in a while shit blows up. Makes me feel right at home.

My dad's first new car was a 1961 Ford Ranch Wagon. Stick six cylinder with radio heater and white sidewall tires. Firestone Deluxe Champions. I learned to drive on that car. I am hoping you do right by the car. Country Sedan was mid level trim and Country Squire with faux wood trim was top of the line.
