1937 Ford truck Abandoned for over 35 years! Will it Run?!? Flathead V8 engine!!

  • I picked up this 1937 Ford truck in trade late last fall. The previous owner never did anything with it and it came from the Iron Range up in northern MN. Story was that the guy used it for many years but judging by the Gambles 6 volt battery still attached to the cables it has been sitting since before the mid 1980s. Lets see if we can get this old girl running once again! And then maybe convert it into something a little bit more usable! If you're interested in the pickup conversion it has already been sold... Thanks for watching!

When I graduated High School in 1973 ( Dont say it!) I went to work at a local TEXICO Full Service Gas Station! As a young Jedi Knuckle Buster. The old boy running the place said " You gotta start at the bottom and work your way up! Which meant everything under the car or truck was mine LOL! It was SOP to drain a quart of old oil out and add a quart of Kerosene and let her idle for about 10 minutes before the oil and filter change. We also never changed the Spark plugs unless the porcelain was cracked. We had the old sandblaster plug cleaner or we used the oxy-Acty number 0 gas welding tip to clean them. We had a Spark plug tester made by AC DELCO and a Distributor Machine too! I never got to use the Distributor Machine but I was told how it worked. I had to be able to snatch the 7/16 flat washer from his hand to prove I was worthy! LOL!

One of the things that draws me to this site is the the use of anachronistic terms. Sayings that, as a native Yank, I should recognize -but don't. That forces me down a rabbit hole where I discover a whole section of my culture that I wasn't really aware of before, but looks eerily familiar today.

Count yourself fortunate that it's only deer droppings. My boy Prince had a thing for raccoon poop. He hated 'coons but loved to roll in their crap. That stuff is bloody strong horrible smelling. Mades me gag a little when I bathed him. Same place of course, all up in the side of the head, neck & collar area. Once on a trip to the Columbia River, he found himself a nice little stash of rotten Salmon. We could smell him from 20 feet away. I used gfs strawberry flavored female body wash on him, in the river of course; (no dog shampoo on a camping trip!). He was not getting in the van reeking of rotten fish! After 5 days of camping in that spot, seems like he waited to do this right as we were ready to leave, too.
