Forgotten 1957 F100 Hot Rod Pickup Truck!! Abandoned for 40 Years! Will it Run?!?

- čas přidán 2. 01. 2022
- I purchased this 1957 Ford F100 shortbed from a classified ad in the Minnesota Street Rod Association Linechaser publication late this summer. The previous owner had it for several years after he purchased it from an auction in Iowa but never did anything with it so he decided to list it for sale. He claimed it was an old "Drag Truck" because it had a "351 Cleveland and oversize rear tires". No doubt this pickup has some cool history! Let's see if we can get it running and back on the road after being parked for 40 or so years!!! This hot rod pickup has been SOLD!!! As always, thanks for watching!

I've got you beat on not checking the battery. Lol. I swapped an engine in my buddies cavalier cause it was out of gas... took him at his word that it was bad. Couldn't get the new engine to start for 3 days. Throw a gallon of fuel in it fired right up. 🤣 🤣 🤣
NO WAY!

You always get a thumbs up from me before I even watch the video! You make Monday mornings something to look forward to, thanks!
Rude not to I have liked thousands of videos I have watch even if the video was bad 😁
I do the same thing. Press play click like and enjoy the show.
Same
I like all to just to tell me which ones I've watched..plus to support the channels..no reason not to
That’s about right. I know I’m gonna love the video every time
I like seeing it through Duff's eyes - every rig offers up endless possibilities of mice, rides, and fresh air/head out of the window fun. Brakes and steering only semi required.
Duff and CTR. ANNEABELLE SHOULD. DO. A CRITTER HUNT ON THEIR. CARS
Duff laughs at brakes and steering he needs excitement in his life
You don’t need brakes, they’ll only slow you down
Between Mortske and Puddin I really don't need any other "will it run ?" videos. Keep em coming guys..
This might be my favorite truck that you have picked up! Boat loads of potential! That Windsor is an easy motor to build. The whole truck will clean up well. I hope you do more than one episode on this sweet little pickup.
Best square body by far. 55 Chevy Cameo 2nd. But the 56 F100 is Icon of the industry.. I have all 3 😁
I agree. Out of all mortskes’s vehicles this is the one I want to own. Already has the best engine ford ever made in it

This man works so hard. Just unreal the time and energy! Thank you Mortske.
Always appreciate how much work you put into the video production. The shop work is great and your banter first rate, but it's the stuff we don't see... all the behind the scenes boring action that makes your channel my favorite.
Thanks much Michael!
Can't wait for your quality content every Monday!
Man I'd love to see you and Duff build a project up, like a build series. Budget hot rod? Nothing too fancy.
Man of love? The hell?

You sure do a lot of work that most of us would give up on. I realize how much work you do for our fun to watch videos you do a great job and that old Ford engine really sounds good hope some Ford guy buys this and keeps on having fun. You and Duff makes a great dog team for winter.

Great job, Mortske! That flex plate, torque converter, and even the nuts looked brand new! Must have been sealed up pretty tight for all those years. Get the brakes working, fix the steering, and throw on a new radiator cap, she's good to go! Thanks for the great entertainment, man!
Happy New Year to you, Duff, and the rest of Mortske Repair! Looking forward to more cool and sometimes wacky vehicle revivals, love it! Thank you very much for great video content!

As always another great video. Mortske Mondays are the best!
Thank God for Mondays. These videos are life affirming.
Cool truck man! You always seem to find the best.
All these vehicles you bring back to life is amazing!! It reminds me whenever I was a teenager and was able to work on stuff like that with my dad..I'm now disabled and can't do the work I used to be able to do..Thanks for entertaining me during the day..
New year, new projects, new adventures! All the best to you and Duff. May all the bills get paid easy and beers be tasty.
Thanks you Mr Mortske & Duff for all your hard work and sharing your knowledge.

Poor Duff couldn't stand having to wait to do his walk through on the interior! 😂 He's a good boy!
It would com with a 300 strait 6 engen
Wrong.... Ford never introduced the 300 until 1965. Mortske was right when he said either a Y-Block, or a 223 I6 would've came factory.
There's an oil filter cut open comparison on CZcams... amazing info. Definitely use Wix, or Napa gold filters! You'll see why after you see the video.
Always good to watch a new Mortske video!
Good boy Duff! Thanks for the videos!
Hey Mortske & Duff. Great video as always. Definitely no mistaking big and small 351's. That definitely is a 69 351 W. You mentioned possibly removing some spring leaf's and perhaps lowering the old pick up. Have you ever considered doing a project re-arching or de-arching leaf springs on something you want to raise or lower without spending a fortune on it? I have done it many times using a press and a jig I made to suspend the leaf's. It takes a little time and some new center bolts but works really well especially to fix some sag on one side. There are some good video's on CZcams showing different ways to home bend leaf springs. It's 68 here today. That road test you and Duff did made me cold just watching it. Hope you guys have a great new year my friend. Until next time.
I've re-arched a few springs. By using the press method. Never the hammer method. I picked up an old roller for making steel hoops for wood wagon wheels that I'd like to try repurposing for this matter. Just haven't gotten that far. Have a good one Bob!
Sweet rig, Mortske.
That's a 351W for sure. Likely came out of the same 69 full size Mercury as the radio.
67-72 302 pickup truck motor mounts are what you need. They may have been the same as 73-77, I don't really remember. Those 351 Windsors used to be plentiful and cheap. I used quite a few in bumpside trucks back in the day.
Good info Tom!
Always love your videos. Thank you for taking the time to film, edit, and upload em
Our pleasure Tom!
Damn it duff!!!!... Your human is one hell of a mechanic!!!!! Be proud, your human is a real mechanic and not one of those CZcams shade tree wannabes.....
Thanks much Thomas!
My dad used FRAM the whole life without any problems.
Even I thought it was the best brand, but today, not so much.
Edit: Nice video and ride haha.
Edit 2: I love that tach right at the "all rpms" mark lol.
Sweet truck Mr. M! The way I separate a Cleveland from a Windsor is to look at the the water outlet. Windsor's are on the intake, Cleveland on the block. All Windsor's share the same intake except a 351W , they have a taller deck. I know most of your viewers don't like them Ford's, but I have had a 302 in my Willis coupe for over 30 yrs with never a problem, plus the distributor is up front which makes life easier!
302 is the best engine Ford ever made so reliable
I love the fords. Building a 460 for a buddy. I love GMs and Chrysler too. Love em all for different reasons
I love the Fords too. I have 27 of them.
@@mikeschriever1034 my daily driver is a 74 Lincoln MK4
Ford cars 57-64 used the tubular cross-member. Believe trucks did too. The motor mounts with the single center stud we're for the same years with Y-block, or FE engines. Later years used a motor-mount with two ears, and a horizontal thruogh bolt to the frame bracket. That 69 351 Windsor benefits from a decent compression ratio(about 9.5), and larger valves than the later ones.
It's that time of year again for Mortske Repair battery donation marathon! Duff is standing by to take your donation calls. Even though he doesn't have thumbs.
Haha
The long video revivals are great to watch and learn something every time 👍
I guess "drag truck" could mean a lot of things to a lot of people...
You mean it's a cross dresser?
Drag queen?!?
He probably did drag it on the trailer
LOL that's why he sold it to Mortske......He got tired of draggin it around....
Was the guy he bought it from wearing a dress?
I have a couple of friends who build engines and their shop voids engine warranty if you use fram oil filters.. they have had quite a few failures due to the inside collapsing and killing oil pressure
Keep them coming, another good show. Thanks for making my Monday!
😆 sorry Greta - how dare you.
LOVE watching and listening to you and Duff!!!
Thanks Loren!
One thing to add here, a '69 351w is actually one of the more desirable ones. It's a little bit different than the later engines. Even being a 2v engine, I believe the heads are the same as 4v, just different casting marks. It may also have some desirable rods in it. Back before aftermarket blocks, this was the one to have.
Thanks for the info!
@@MortskeRepair now if you can get a 351 c. Things wood roll
Actually the Cleveland 351 is the more desirable because they have the large port heads that breath well with the valves canted instead of being side by side like the Windsor does . Most of the Windsor engines were casted in Canada & the Cleveland's made here in the states . As for Fram oil filters I have been using them for well over 30 years & haven't had a bad one yet but I have had 1 wix that the anti drain back valve was stuck open on my chevrolet 5.3 LS that was causing lifter noise on start up until I bought another wix then cut the old filter open & found the problem . Way back in the day Fram was the only filter you could buy that was the HP filter that was made with a thicker canister & better stronger filter to use for drag racing on the top fuel nitro engines where those engine pump very high oil pressure to keep the babbitt style crank bearings alive in those 10,000 HP billet aluminum Hemi style engines . I am sure wix probably has already copied these as well not that long ago but Fram was the first to make those style filters because a standard oil filter will fail & burst from the pressure so Fram developed them . If you want to see something cool look up top fuel nitro fuel pressure stages where they have a Hemi cylinder cut so it's just the intake & exhaust port blocked off with thick clear plastic so you can see how much nitro is being pumped in at idle then as it takes off for it's run at WOT & it's amazing how much fuel just one cylinder is pumped through which just at idle stage would drown even a pro stock engine .
26:03 A friend of mine back in HS bought a hotrodded '67 Mustang with a 351c in it. Complained to me that it was noisy, had no oil pressure at idle. I saw a FRAM bomb on the side. Said 'lets put a fresh change of 10w30 and a Purolator on it'. So we did exactly that.
Idle oil pressure went from about 6-7 pounds up to 35+, the ticking went away, it started quicker.
FRAM bombs are terrible. I only ever use them for range targets.
I'm gonna give that a try on my next oil change. I've always ran Fram filters and my engines always last for me. My oil pressure is low at idle, but like I said the engines just keep running. I just assumed old Ford engines didn't need oil pressure at idle...lol. Anyway, now I'm curious if a simple filter change will make a difference for me.
68 289 same issue and put a wix on it. No more knock
@@Captain_Yodelstein I use the Motorcraft FL-1a. It's either a Purolator or a Wix depending on who made the batch you buy from, both excellent top shelf filters. And readily available. I can still get them at my local walmart even.
@@TestECull, thanks for the info. Might just pick one up on the way home from work.
My grandpa (rest his soul) was an old school mechanic for well over 40 years, and Fram was all he used. I myself have used Fram as he did for going on 30+ years now without any issues. That of course was changed religiously every 3000 miles. Perhaps both of us were lucky all these years, and we may have dodged a bullet once, or 500 times. Stranger things have happened. Any of you fellers used royal purple at all? If so does it work well, is it just nothing but snake oil?
Another amazing truck reborn. It’s a project for sure. Since not much works on it. But, has possible would make a collector proud. Thank you for sharing Mortske! Great work! Hope you have a great year! 🎆
Good show as always MORTSKE!!!
That driveshaft is perfectly stock. In the mid 60's ford used a 2 piece shaft vulcanized with rubber between the shafts to quiet the drivetrain . They used them on fairlanes and merc counterpart mid sized cars for sure. You have terrible flat spots which is likely the vibration.
Would that be room temperature vulcanization cream? VGG
That’s pretty cool I did not know that
Not to mention the huge dent in the drive shaft.
Yep. My 63 Fairlane had a 2 piece drive shaft like that. Rubber between the 2 to dampen vibrations.
Another great Ford idea..."Let's stuff the shaft in rubber ...then we don't have to balance it". hahahahaha
Another good video! Thank you sir, and thanks to the Duffster!😎👍

Love it I dropped a 460 in a 64 ford pickup I only had front factory brakes steering was awful and heated all the time . Thanks for bringing back good memories .
Cool rig!
Lots of memories and hum or here! A buddy and I swapped a 390 into his absolutely cherry 1958 F100 in place of the Y block about 1971. He went out and actually bought a motor mount kit for it, and the actual swap went well. Rebuilt the engine to 67-68 Mustang specs, and ended up using stock manifolds. Even installed A/C, and a passenger car 4 speed from a Fairlane GT. The 9" had a 4.11 limited slip. Later addition of power steering was essential, replacing the Gemmer manual box. A Saginaw power steering box from a 75 and up Econoline can be fitted, and use the original Pitman arm, but you need to weld up a little bracket for the box, and install a rag joint. Don't use a car steering box, as the direction is reversed...turn left, go right!
Sounds like a pickup I’d love to find!
