    It’s Filoni’s fault for going so overboard with his witch obsession, KK’s fault for giving it the greenlight, Stenberg and the rest of the cast’s fault for being so condescending towards their audience, Hedlund’s fault for conceiving such a terrible idea for a series, and Iger’s fault for letting it make it to air. The Acolyte is a suck sandwich where every ingredient contributes something awful to it.

      Pretty soon, the shareholders and board will realize that the initial 4 billion SHOULD have been recouped by now, along with another 10+ billion, if they had just given us average movies/shows minus the woke messaging. Not even K*ntleen, Baloni, nor Lezzye will be safe from the reckoning to come.

    • @superdave8248
      @superdave8248 Před 6 dny +13

      To be fair with Iger, this was but one project greenlit in a series of projects off the fan support for the first season of Mando five years ago back in 2019. And all based on a pitch about twins who are opposed to each other on the light and dark side of the force. By the time the Board probably saw the first edited version of this, three years had passed and $200 million had been spent. Fans had had support for Filoni due to Mandolorian's success and even the board likely gave him breathing room. Between Ahsoka and The Acolyte, I'm sure Iger has lost faith in Filoni at this point. But everything points to actors' contracts being a MF to get out of because Disney management assumed they would need the actors for a multi-project deal. Disney had no choice but to try to salvage it and release it. So they did damage control by releasing it when Upside Down 2 was released in theaters and ending it when Deadpool 3 is to be released.
      I think The Board has probably comes to terms with the idea that Star Wars is a dead brand. And yes, they killed it. They just haven't come to terms with what to do about it. I think the next project to come out is Skeleton Crew and I doubt its going to do well unless word of mouth carries it through.

      **The Wookie Jedi roars in anticipation of the battle. The camera pans down his side as he retrieves a feral-looking lightsaber as it ignites yellow. The acolyte, strength mixed with fear in her mind, draws her saber. Their fight is flashy and cool, just like Dual of the Fates. He fights with brute force, her with cunning and trickery. She is losing the saber fight, spots a bag of sand/dust/coals/etc and slashes it open before using the Force to throw the dust at the Wookie, blinding him. The rest of the fight is with his eyes closed as he uses the Force to see. His movements are a bit slower, more calculated, but none the weaker. In a desperate, last effort, the acolyte manages to slice his lightsaber in half and stabs him through the chest. He roars in defeat and Force-pushes her backwards as she crashes through the back wall of the building which collapses on top of her. The wookiee breathes his last as he falls over dead. The acolyte manages to crawl out of the rubble with some help from the Force. She is badly injured and bloodied from the fight. Numerous burns across her body. She allows herself a small moment of victory seeing the dead wookiee, while realizing how close she came to dying herself, and stumbles out of the building. Fade to black.

They also hope this becomes a time line for the next generation to see how it was criticized for it's social propaganda. Disney sees these failed projects as investments for the future.

      @PianomanKY Před 5 dny +2

      But the problem is that younger audiences aren't ever going to be "hardcore" fans of anything. They hop on and off of whatever's trendy on any given week more frequently than some people change their underwear. Younger generations aren't going to stick with it for 50+ years like the OG SW fans have. They're not collecting the action figures/toys, they're not buying the Darth Vader waffle makers, etc. So sure they'll stick with it for a while but not long-term, especially with the trash new content.

Most of these failures could have been avoided if there had been competent people in charge. If you're looking for someone to blame, you have to start with Iger. Lorn is exactly right. Kathleen Kennedy is an activist. Disney cultivates activists. Kennedy hires activists. I call this new Star Wars show The Activist. From the get go, Kennedy has been dismantling, re-contextualizing, breaking, character assassinating and undermining Lucas’s Star Wars. She is a man-hating feminist activist. She views George’s Star Wars as a product of the “patriarchy”. Naturally she would want to change it, including (if not especially) George’s original work. What have we seen? Han Solo was a bad father (though we’re shown zero proof or explanation of this). Luke is reduced to a pathetic mess who has abandoned his own character and everyone he loves. Anakin’s redemption as well as Luke’s victory were taken from them. The’ve established their new female hero (which is fine, of course), but made sure she never had to learn anything from a terrible man and she never gets to fail. The Force can do whatever the writers decide it can do. All the villains are white males except Cpt. Phasma who is completely covered and has about 2 minutes in the entire trilogy. Jesus, the list goes on and on. It’s not bad writing. I think a lot of people miss this or don’t understand it. It appears as bad writing because every script, every show, doesn’t happen - doesn’t flow - as it naturally should because it’s written from a place of ideology. Men are bad or pathetic. Women are always great, never make mistakes, as they make Yoda say about Rey “already has she all that she needs”. Speaking of quotes; they tell us in the dialogue constantly: “destroy the past, kill it if you have to”, “the Jedi need to end”, “I came here to die”, “it’s about power and who’s allowed to wield it”. I believe by the end of The Activist the prophecy of Anakin’s birth, the reasons behind it as well as the motivation of the Sith are going to be re-contextualized, thereby undermining and reshaping George’s original saga at its very roots. It will set up Rey’s “New Jedi Order” and how we’re supposed to (according to their ideology) view the Jedi, the Force and practically everything involved in the original films. These shows are absolutely malicious and written from a place of bitterness. It will continue to be under Kathleen Kennedy and Disney.

    2. Boy Lyger submits that The Acolyte is a huge hit, and the bad ratings are due to a small minority of toxic male fans.
    3. Thus, Lyger at el. has decided to cancel season 2 of the huge hit, Acolyte.
    4. It sounds like Lyger is breaching his fiduciary duty to shareholders by canceling season 2 of such a big hit.
    Or Lyger is lying, and the Acolyte is a huge failure. To keep the lie feasible, Lyger will need to reinstate season 2 of the Acolyte, take the losses and lick his wounds. They will need to hide the losses somewhere. Can anyone guess where the losses will be hidden? But if Directors, Actors, and writers start calling fans names and accusing them of being toxic men, racism, sexism, anti-female, or bigots with the DEI agenda. Fans will fire back and these big companies forget that what makes a movie money is the fans. You insult them with name calling and accusing them of being something just because they want a decades rich story well written without DEI. They will boycott your movies. Back when the Original trilogy was in theaters, diverse crowds of humans stood around the block waiting for tickets, all enjoying each other's company. Nobody was excluded, nobody was told, "This isn't for you!" or "You're too toxic to stand in line with us." Nothing in the movies beat us over the head with politics. If it does not fit, use a bigger hammer. Then, fail to listen to your intended audience, except to reshoot scenes over and over in response to the ominous rumbling. Go on promo tour, piss the fans off by smirking at your desecration of the IP. When it is released and immediately rejected, blame fans.

    How many times does Pro have to hear, "Its not about the money, its about the message", before he fully understands what that sentence means.
    Also Pro: KK will be allowed to make whatever she wants as long as she wants to. Chris Gore's idea of her being in charge of nothing with no budget is a pipe dream. If she has the knowledge that keeps her employed, that knowledge will guarantee whatever hate-filled ideas she has, being funded.
    Star Wars is doomed as long as Disney/Lucasfilm own it and even if Apple buys it, that won't be any better.

    When a creative endeavor enters the Zeitgeist, there is no longer any true ownership, any 'control' of the Canon. This is the blessing and bane of jumping the cultural crossbar - your stuff is no longer yours alone. So Disney does not control the Star Wars ethos, and we are free to accept or reject their offerings.

    The folks at Warner Bros took a look at the Batgirl movie and thought it was not worthy of putting out in Cinemas or streaming. Perhaps had someone at Lucasfilm been wise, they would have shelved The Acolyte.

    Sure they'll keep going. They can't stop now and admit that the stunning brilliance of their enlightenment is WRONG. It is, but they can't admit that! Celebrated writers and directors and producers were celebrated for valid reasons, mostly their skill in cinema. The stated goal of giving unestablished people a chance at the big leagues is fine, even noble, but using it as an excuse to hand off top tier jobs to incompetent people wasn't the idea.

    If Pumpkin Head(land) had done her job, then the first two versions that were fully produced, would not have been re-done for a third pass with Dave in charge of writing, after their test screen respectively went from bad to worse. Apparently this version scored nearly as badly as the first, so this is the best they can do. So the fault lies with Kennedy, Headland, and FailOnly equally.

    With the bit about the parks I disagree a bit. It's not that 'they're having trouble maintaining'. It's that they cut out maintenance for such a long time that they CAN'T maintain it anymore, but they don't want to replace it.
    Think of it like a car engine and changing the oil. When you buy a brand new car, with a new engine, you should change the oil regularly. Do you HAVE to change the oil every 6 months? No. Can you get away without changing it for years? Sure. But the longer you go without changing the oil, the more the engine suffers. If you didn't change the oil in your engine for 3 years, then start having engine trouble, you can't simply go back and change the oil. Now you have all kinds of deep problems caused by you refusing to change the oil.
    That's what Disney did. They cut out a lot of regular maintenance and upkeep of the parks and rides, and now are at the stage where they're trying to go back and 'maintain' things that now need to be replaced because they have deep-seated problems from their lack of previous maintenance.
