I've flown in that beautiful aircraft. I ran FBOs in Houston and El Paso and we hosted the Commemorative Air Force several times. I got to know these folks and their aircraft over the years. My thoughts and prayers are with the families.
My grandfather was a B17 navigator that flew the “big hump” in WW2. He was slated to be a pilot but then was passed over because his hearing wasn’t good enough. He always said the biggest worry was freezing to death at high altitudes because these planes weren’t pressurized or insulated. I was lucky enough to get him to tour a B17 with me and my father before he passed. God bless these men for their love of vintage aviation and keeping history alive. We must continue flying these planes to educate the future.

@@daleburnfart6845 Thank you. I photographed their plane in Houston. I must have seen this very B-17 when I was 13 at the airshow on a school trip taxiing by as the bagpipes were played. It was also a sad day in Houston when KTRK's SkyEye 13 chopper fell to the ground.
As an avid flight fan from Ireland I wish to pass on my condolences to all involved, the immediate flight crew families and friends of both aircraft also to the aviators who will remain flying in memory of those lost. This was a tragic accident witnessed by many many thousands of people both at the air display and who will still be viewing this here on YT for years to come. May your Souls Fly High and Soar above the Clouds from here to Eternity...R.I.P.
Me too. My wife, son and I were at Ellington on Oct 29. I remember telling my son to soak up the sound of the engines and watch closely because when he’s old, there probably won’t be any left. I definitely didn’t have what happened in mind.
So sad… these were extremely talented and good people volunteering their time and money to educate the public. Neither pilot saw each other and were doing as directed from the ground… horrible tragedy. I sat through the CAF P63 training class with this pilot, And knew this B17 crew. They will be missed.
Someone messed up and from looking at the flight data, most likely it was the P63 pilot who made the fatal error. We'll have to wait for the investigation though. Someone made a video where they overlayed the flight paths of 3 planes, 2 of the fighters and the bomber. The accident P63 swung his turn wide and went right into the path of the b17. The lead fighter plane had a much tighter turn, keeping it out of the bombers path. I think eventually, some blame will be put on whoever authorized no vertical separation between the fighters and bombers. Unnecessary risk imo.
I lived in east Dallas. I can’t tell you the amount of times growing up that I saw that plane flying overhead but it was always so cool and I’d always wave hoping they could see me. I was in shock watching that plane crash, it was a piece of my childhood dying. I hope the crew felt nothing and are still living their dreams in the air wherever their souls ended up. Cheers gentlemen this whiskey I’m sipping is in honor of y’all and the memories y’all left.
I grew up loving vintage aircraft from WW2 mostly due to my dad who served in the Army Air Corps. My condolences to the families of the lost crew members.
One could only hope that the B-17 crew never knew what happened because it was so quick and it just in the blink of an eye.God rest your souls of the men who died that day...RIP

It's a sadness not yet realized, but These men went down doing what they loved... I don't think one could ask more from life. It hurts to see this... That plane and crew was a Representative from that time, when Men were Men, and Women were Women. They didn't always get it right but they fought evil and won so that it wouldn't touch these shores. Appreciate the video. I was still able to enjoy it despite the tragic loss of life on the 12th. I focused on the beautiful planes and imagined how much fun each pilot was having in them. I was excited to see the Japanese Zero and I think that was a shot of the Nakajima B5N torpedo bomber. My mother was born in Germany so I wanted to cry for joy when I saw that ME 262 I did not even know we had one that was operational! All dark history aside, researching German technology and how advanced it was in WW2 always gets me excited and yes it is a shame how much it was used for evil, but I still marvel at the intellectual prowess the German people had from a technological stand point. I would really love to see that flying wing thing they had in the air. I liked the display dog fight with the Japanese Zero that would have been nostalgic for so many people of that era. That looks like an air show that would have really filled a person with national pride in our armed forces and veterans. I dont want to focus on the tragedy, I am just going to look past that and appreciate this amazing air show and the people who put it on for the people of Texas. Thank you to all.
@@dirtytreerat14 Same. Of all historical planes it is my favorite, such a masterpiece of engineering. My second favorite of the era has to be the P-51 Mustang. In all honestly I dont know which one I love more. Despite the advantage the ME-262 had over the Mustang, the Mustang did manage to give the Me-262 a fight.
