  • Tragedy struck yesterday, as two historic aircraft collided during a performance in the Wings Over Dallas 2022 Airshow. The aircraft involved in the collision both performed at the Wings Over Houston 2022 Airshow, just two weeks prior to this unfortunate event. Here's my footage of both aircraft performing during the show. My condolences go out to the families of the crews and those involved on both aircraft.
    Here's the official statement from the Commemorative Air Force (CAF):
    On Saturday, November 12, two aircraft were involved in a mid-air collision at Dallas Executive Airport. The aircraft were a B-17 Flying Fortress and P-63 Kingcobra, both out of the Houston area. Currently we do not have information on the status of the flight crews as emergency responders are working the accident. The Commemorative Air Force is working with local authorities, the FAA, and the NTSB will conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with those involved in the accident and their families.

    Such a tragedy- the loss of man and machine. Neither can ever be replaced. All will be missed by those that loved them. To the family and friends of each airman, my most sincere condolences. I pray that in time they all will find healing. Fond memories replacing the emptiness of their loss. To the aviation community, living history re-enactors and all that keep our nation’s history alive and strive to keep such magnificent examples of mechanical genius aloft. You too, have my sympathy.

    Flying in a B-17 and watching an historic airshow is a joyful experience for people who love aviation history. The best we can do at the moment we leave is to be doing what we love, with people we love. Hopefully if they had any time at all to consider it, they realized this and had no regrets. I'm deeply saddened by the loss of life and the loss of such wonderful aircraft.
    In 1983 I was a six year old boy, growing up, I knew my Grandfather few bombers in a war, but I'd never seen them up close until the Commemorative (then Confederate) Air Force put on an Airshow in Santa Fe, NM where I grew up.
    Texas Raiders was there, along with FiFi(B-29), Diamond Lil (B-24 now called Dragons Tail) Pancho (a B-25) and many WWII era Fighters including an F8F Bearcat.
    I have a wonderful picture of me leaning out of Texas Raider's cockpit window. When I first learned of the crash it was a very short clip of the collision. I recognized the aircraft immediately and my heart sank. My deepest condolences and prayers to the families who lost loved ones.

    Sincerely Bill,,, condolence to all members of a wonderful remembrance air show.
    The tragic loss of dear friends and fellow pilots.
    Those with flying in their blood.
    🇺🇸 The aircraft’s maintenance crews who insured perfect flight status for their charges.
    You did your best for the airmen.
    As a side note of these aircraft involved in air show I have flown aboard Boeing B-17, Vultee BT-13, Douglas C-47, Consolidated Vultee B-24.
    My mother ( passed ) aboard a second seat equipped North American P-51.
    Pilot being surprised by her ability to sustain very acrobatic maneuver.

    During VFR ( visual flight rules) it is imperative that no sudden moves or turns are made when multiple airplanes are flying near each other so that you do not lose sight of each other. From the video evidence the p63 was the cause and responsible for the accident.

    • @colinhoward74
      @colinhoward74 Před rokem +2

      The cause of the accident goes back a lot further , you are correct but the Kingcobra saw no US service what so ever but , as the markings show , the russians put it to good use , the reason for this is the plane has one of , if not the worst visibility from in the cockpit ever , even though the Spitfire taking off infront of the B17 radioed the P63 about the B17 to warn him , ( a true fighter aircraft with excelent visibility can see the disaster from looking up and behind 《the spitfire》) the pilot of the P63 clearly could not see the bomber while banking keeping an eye on his wing man , the problem goes back to design and production .

      However this was an air show with aircraft performing performance flying maneuvers, formations, and acrobatics. Do you expect the Blue Angels to not make sudden moves or turns lol. The P 63 didn't just arrive unaware of the activity, it was involved in a reenactment with the B 17

    • @danfuerthgillis4483
      @danfuerthgillis4483 Před rokem +1

      @@timf2279 Air shows are always full of airplanes flying near each other, this was just that the P63 pilot simply lost track of where the other airplane was, it's not like this is the first time this has happened, sometimes destiny meets tragedy no matter how skilled you are.

    • @timf2279
      @timf2279 Před rokem

      @@danfuerthgillis4483 my point is why are you talking about VFR? They have Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) and Air Show Special Provisions. The area is a closed air space so VFR do not apply because it's controlled. Are you a pilot, if so you need to do some refresher training. If not just do some research or stay in your lane and discuss topics you have knowledge of.
