  • Wings Over Houston 2022! Filmed on 10/29/22, this features the Messerschmitt ME-262, owned by the Collings Foundation, performing during the America Trains for War performance. Chasing the ME-262 and getting chased by it was a P-51 Mustang (NL51VF) owned by FIFTYONE FLIGHT LLC. Getting to see both of these aircraft chase each other on a peaceful environment was an incredible experience.
From the Wings Over Dallas Airshow website: America Trains for War is a visual history experience of America’s involvement in World War II through flight. Watch as the training aircraft of America’s daring aviators zip through the sky. Witness the evolution of American aircraft as they were outfitted with higher speeds and better armament to fight battles in the Pacific and European Theaters of War. Dozens of aircrafts fly to demonstrate America’s great Arsenal of Democracy in flight.
As you may notice in the video, some of the aircraft from this performance are the ones that collided with each other at Dallas a few weeks ago, as they were also part of the performance.
I hope you like this video! Don't forget to comment, rate & subscribe!

My dad saw the REAL ones flying all the time between late Feb-May 1945, when he was a POW at Stalag 7a in Moosburg. There was an ME-262 airfield not far from there and the Germans would "buzz" the POW camp regularly - as a form of demoralizer to the allied POWs.

Anyone know the background on the 262? I presume it's a replica but????🤔

its a night hunter variant. radar technician on the back and pilot in the front, but they removed the radar spikes at the front for some reason im guessing they want to make it look like the original variant

A replica powered by two CJ610 turbo jets!

+ JC Woodman In the 1990s an original two-seat trainer Me-262 was being restored and a special project was created to copy the parts and build several new examples for buyers. Five were made and four of those are flyable with GE turbines. Single-seat, dual-cockpit, and switchable models were made. Much more power with the GE engines but they have to go easy with the throttle.

Thank heavens the Germans were not able to build many of these. I understand that the only way a Mustang could shoot them down was to catch it taking off or landing. That's scary. 😳

how can you say this? "Thank heavens the Germans..." blablah
      How dare you?

Yes if the Nazis had built more of these we would have been in real trouble. I was at a airshow in October and there was a 262 there and it was flying circles around the mustang.😳

@@davidstumer3360 Except we wouldn’t. The service life of the original jet engines on the ME 262 was 25 flight hours. The P-51 wouldn’t have been able to shoot one down because the ME 262’s engine would have failed by the time a P-51 caught up to it!

@@tescoshortage: Right enough! Allied ground troops encountered hundreds of airframes without turbine engines. Powerplants typically are the weakest link to production and the extra difficulty in sourcing the materials for these turbine engines delayed production of this jet. All of occupied Europe could not source more than 50 or so flying examples. Squadrons were numbered with four planes (maybe) available per sortie.

Had the 262 come out earlier, the US would have had not been able to rule the sky's over Europe

The fuel consumption and terrible engine reliability disagree with you. It would’ve helped but “rule” is a stretch

There really is no single thing you can do to give germany a win in WW2, it was a predetermined losing battle, the 262 was a bad design and the engine temperatures required materials that the germans were short on. They wouldn't have ruled the sky unless you gave them infinite materials.
