    Hey Jason, first off, thank you so much for your content. It was absolutely invaluable in helping me build a PC, something I've wanted to do for the last 8 years! I can finally play my favourite games at a smooth 60 FPS or higher with high to very high settings without a hitch!
    Unfortunately, modding Skyrim is proving to be a learning experience 😂😂😂

    • @-hellsgate-
      @-hellsgate- Pƙed rokem +3

      I'm a retired IT Consultant and active Skyrim mod author. In my experience, there's little point in playing on anything above the High graphics setting on Skyrim SE because of game engine limitations and texture resolution (higher resolutions increase texture density using more GPU memory). The game engine issues a lot of draw calls, which may overload GPUs under 8GB - tanking your FPS. I run an AMD Ryzen 5 1500X, RTX 2060 6GB, 16 GB RAM (DDR4 1200 / CL17), 500 GB SSD system drive, 1 TB HDD dedicated gaming drive & 4 TB HDD storage drive. Meaning, on average 20% CPU usage drives 40% GPU usage at 55~70 Celsius CPU / 65~67 Celsius GPU & never goes above 70% RAM usage. Yet, even my FPS drops to 15~30 FPS in cities and indoors areas. Am not quite sure if the A320 m/board it's installed on is limiting the CPU or the RAM speed, but I suspect that it might be (the system was built for running a GTX 1050Ti after all) although the relative usage percentages / temperatures don't really suggest much bottle necking.
      The game has a fixed limit of 256 Master files (ESMs & ESPs) that it can load and currently takes slot 0 for the main game and slots 1~3 for each of the 3 DLCs, leaving 252 ESM / ESPs available to the user; with ESPFE / ESL files being loaded outside of the game's main memory space and limited to approximately 400 entries. So, a system with 16GB+ of RAM is the way to go - remembering that GPUs share RAM with the PC and GPUs under 8GB RAM are more likely to page swap their memory when being used. As well as the PC possibly page swapping memory while the game is running - so, no playing with an internet browser or multiple tabs open!
      Unless you have a really high end GPU, go for 2K resolution texture packs for mountains, plants / shrubbery / trees, water, weather, signposts, buildings & furniture - that's before you even think about adding companion / follower, gameplay or animation mods. So, try DMT's HASHESH P2 and see if that helps your frame rate, then add Vivid Landscapes - All in One - Special Edition. IF that doesn't do everything you want, supplement with any of the following from the NEXUS mods website (personally, I load textures, meshes, then lighting):-
      Skyrim 3D Landscapes Groundcovers / Rocks / Stonewalls / Trees and Plants; A.Noble Skyrim; Blended Roads; Rudy HQ - Nordic Ruins; Book Covers Skyrim SE;
      Fluffy Snow; Realistc HD Food Remastered / Ingots Remastered; Rustic Elder Scrolls / SoulGems / Mountains; A Quality World Map; HD Local Map;
      Skyrim SE - Project Optimisation; Better FaceLight and Conversation - Redux; Mystical Illumination - Glowing Signs - C.MIGS & Mystical Illumination - I.MIGS);
      Cathedral 3D - Mountain Flowers & Cathedral 3D - Mountain Flowers Hearthfire Patch; Dolomite Weathers; Static Mesh Improvements Mod - SMIM.
      Avoid mods that add light sources (such as ELFX) and go for ones that just change the light colours / tone / radiance, such as Luminocity or EVLaS (only installing one at any given time). Change the tree LOD number (No. of trees displayed) in the skyrim.ini file from 77 to 64 - it makes a huge difference in reducing the number of draw calls - you can lower that by 4 at a time until you are running stable and can live with the result. Also, do the same with the grass setting.
      Checkout the SSE Display Tweaks, SSE Display Tweaks - High Performance Configuration & SSE FPS Stabiliser mods. Which, handle a lot of the game engine issues by auto-adjusting the display values. Finally, anyone using an ENB can checkout mods such as ENB Helper, Water for ENB & Bright Waterfall Fix for ENB.

      are the differences between these three uses cases the reason why he suggested getting better faster ram for 1080p, and suggested staying at worse slower ram for 1440p? this was around @ 23:48 he suggested this and it confused me why he would say to get faster ram for a lower resolution 1080p. Seems to me like 1440p would be need better ram because it's higher resolution than 1080p.

    • @17-.
      @17-. Pƙed rokem

      @@paradigmshift7541 I'm not an expert but my understanding is that in general, your CPU is going to be doing more work when your frames are higher. That's because the GPU is supposedly not doing as much work and you're getting "bottlenecked" by the CPU. Of course this is super dependent on the use case. Typically the resolution is going to have the greatest impact on frame rate, hence why 1080p is going to be more CPU-bound than 1440p. If the CPU is the main constraint, faster ram will help out.
      My personal opinion however is that ram speed is mostly not a concern. 3200MHz ram is relatively cheap these days and it's more than enough to get you the performance you want.

    are you referring to SAM (smart access memory) when you say you wouldve gone with the ryzen 5600 instead? so amd cpu and amd gpu combo would be faster than i3 with amd gpu in that scenario? or is the 5600 just faster in general? faster in general and additionally faster with SAM? I was thinking the i3 12100 with a amd 6650xt or 6700xt but i did not take think about the 5600 performance and SAM etc. i was also considering a intel cpu with 3060 ti for the better DLSS compared to fsr , ray tracing ability (though admittedly not as useful at this target performance level), and that nvidia will start using the nvidia gpu to improve youtube videos on edge and chrome (3000 and 4000 series, they said it at CES). I have time to wait some months before i buy anything if thats the best. this is my first build. watching tens of hours of video over the last couple years ha but never got as close to building as i am now. i am planning on buying used, and my budget is around 700 dollars, maybe 750 or more if really worth it. i have a 4k 60 hz monitor. i am not sure whether it supports 1440p resolution but that is my target. I am gaming, browsing the web only. I have the budget for a 4-5k system in the future but I just want to dip my feet and wait some years before ddr5 and pcie 5 advance. Any advice on which way you might go? your insight would be appreciated! i recently subscribed since i like the way you consolidate information and teach real world application with that information. btw what a great deal on that 6750 xt and psu, i cant find it anymore :( but good to know there are deals here and there

However, everything I've been finding on the 5800X3D is that it is slaying everything in terms of gaming performance. If it were me, I'd spring the extra for the X3D. With the 3090 you've got an easy upgrade path to solid 4K performance and the X3D/3090 combo would rock, especially with the savings you've got in the GPU and PSU already.

    One thing to note. The cheaper ram that is 3600mhz most likely isnt compatible with the motherboard at those speeds. You really need to look at the motherboards QVL for ram. If you dont then your most likely running at the base clock speed, usually around 2133mhz. For most b550 32gb @ 3600mhz that 100% compatible is way over the $200 price point. Just FYI to new builders, all marketed Ram's speed rating its max speed when over clocked (xmp profile).

    It may be worth suggesting both a new and a used GPU option in future builds if a used option is better than what is available new in the current market.

    I wouldn't touch DDR4-3600 on 12th gen Intel locked cpus because the memory controller often can't handle that speed since you can't add any extra voltage on locked cpus. To get around this your board's BIOS will sometimes drop to Gear 2 when you're trying to run 3600 MT/s speeds, which cuts the speed of the memory controller in half and slows you way down. Much better to buy DDR4-3200 which is officially supported so you can just turn on the XMP profile and forget it. Was a pain having to manually tune my DDR4-3600 to DDR4-3200 and set all the timings since my i5-12400F's memory controller could not handle the DDR4-3600 XMP profile of my RAM in Gear 1 without crashing when I stress tested it with 7-zip compressing and decompressing 4-8GB files.

From the research I've done for the resolution a 3060 would be about 6% cpu bottleneck, a 2060 super would be a good match with about a 3% cpu bottleneck, or the best pairing I found was a gtx 1080 which had no bottleneck at all with both cpu/gpu utilizing 100% (theoretically). What do you think would be the better choice? I'm leaning toward the 3060 because it would still give me about 93% gpu utilization and I get a newer card, also my i5 is oc'd @5.17ghz.

When I bought just the build cost was almost double what I paid.

    I build PCs and I'm wondering why you haven't popped and propped all the great AMD CPUs available with faster and more efficient performance. I do both AMD and Intel depending on the customer's budget. Also, the AMD gpu s are a steal right now considering NVIDIA's reluctance to bring prices down. Stay away from the AM5 socket mobos and the 4000 series gpu s for now (build returns are at an all time high right now). Market prices are about to take fall in favor of the buyers in the market this year within the first to second quarter. Am I correct in saying that the Focusrite acts as the sound card, bypassing my mobos sound card (assuming I have the driver and am outputting to the focusrite), meaning I don't need to worry about what the mobos quality is in that arena?
