  • Two great boards can be very different, Ive been looking for an adult alternative to my daughters Penny Nickel board which is already hard to beat. Im surprised there arent more reviews out there so heres my take. Ive found the Landyachtz Dinghy to be a great choice for heavier riders like myself its got the goods if youre curious like I was this is a thorough review of the pros and cons of both.
    If youd like to get a Dinghy you can find them here on Landyachtz Amazon store, keep in mind this graphic I reviewed here may not be available but many others are.

      Hey whats up Skye, thanks, Ive been self teaching myself to edit for a few years now and it usually takes me a few weeks to make time to shoot all the footage and produce it. probably not smart in the long run but I prefer the look of these compared to my older simple unedited stuff. your dad is real cool I saw your vid teaching him to skate, he was smart to take it slow, it feels weird standing on a board with wheels the first time.

      xXspectre170Xx I mentioned to Landyachtz I would like to do a comparison between the dingy and tugboat. If you look close at all the tugboats there's three different board dimensions , the 80s wide pool version. The original one is 9.25 in wide but the most recent one with the Pug on it is a little narrower at 9 in

    • @xXspectre170Xx
      @xXspectre170Xx Před 6 lety +8

      I like how the tugboat is a little longer than the dinghy, but its still a good size to travel with. I'm thinking about getting the hatchet later down the line.

    the reason that the dinghy has the cushioned grip is because people aren’t using them for flip tricks/ollie’s. The cushion makes it less responsive when you drag your foot. i’ve used a non abrasive grip dinghy and it’s hard to ollie.

    • @Raychristofer
      @Raychristofer  Před 6 lety +23

      Savten Thanks for that insight, since I can't Ollie yet it's good to know. My son also says the tiny lip at the front makes it harder to catch the board on the slide up for Ollie as well. Appreciate the comment.

Hey one thing I have to mention is some of the same boards at landyachtz come in two different size wheels some come with 60 mmm for like skatepark type tricks and others come with the larger 63 mm for cruising, I always recommend getting the 63 as they roll smoothly over bumps and stuff. Good lookin out

      Michael Rickicki my man if you've mastered riding a penny in New York if you get hold of a dinghy the police are going to be giving you speeding tickets but only if they can catch you because it's more solid and responsive and you can actually stand with two feet on it. Good comparison and info. Thank you, Ray. My 1 question for you is, however, what do you consider "heavier riders"? The weight limit for the Penny is 220 lbs. Do you think that the increased flex in the board and increased "Gs" going into turns lower your center of gravity, and help with traction and handling? Just curious. Thank you again, Ray.

    Great review! Thanks for posting it. The Dinghy is an awesome cruiser board, no doubt. But one thing I really like about the Penny Nickel board is that it closely resembles the boards that people rode in socal back in the 70s when pool skating was born. It's a cool feeling to ride something that pays homage to that kind of old school skateboarding. Best regards from Brasilia, Brazil.

    Amazing job with the review! Camera quality and editing was absolutely flawless and it was an absolute joy to watch. Do you know the differences between the tugboat and the dinghy? I feel like the dinghy might be a little small for how tall I am (6 ft).

      nasaman23 thank you nas I really appreciate it, I'm a big guy too I'm about 250 and six foot tall also and me and you are in the same boat, I've been talking to Landyachtz seeing if I could get them to send me one to review but they dont do that. If you think the dinghy may be too small the tug makes more sense. Strange thing about the tugboat is there's like three different boards that they use for it, it's 30 inches long some boards on 9 inch wide While others are 9.25 wide. the Bigfoot model is the original shape and size that I like and that's the one I may get. The way the trucks are tuned out the box is pretty perfect in my opinion I didn't feel the need to change bushings I only tightened up the back trucks because I was getting some wheel bite and I put some very thin risers on it. I appreciate you taking the time to comment because believe me it took probably over a week to shoot an edit that thing LOL

I initially wanted to get a Penny nickel (as it's a lot cheaper than most wooden cruisers here in Europe), but heard from someone Penny's are much more uncomfortable for your feet and less suitable for longer distances than Dinghy's for example. Was wondering if anyone else has that same experience and if I should maybe for once spend that extra money and go for a wooden board.

      @@Raychristofer Thx man, that helps a lot. I was skeptical of the dinghy's size, but knowing this I think I've got more confidence in that little board : )

    Man, you're doing good. I'm 59 I like long boarding now. I like cruising all over the place on my longboard . Teaching my twelve year old daughter. Cant get it out of me even though my knees hurt. 🤟😎

      Hello thanks so much for that comment. The crazy thing is this is a photography channel but my two skate videos are more popular than anything else. Believe me if I had more gear to test o would start a skate channel. I'm in South Florida and this was shot in fort Lauderdale.
