Everyone seemed to enjoy Alyx, so I've forced my way to do another Half-Life VR video. Now we just need Half-Life 1 to be remade in VR. And we can complete the triforce.
The next major video will be Fallout: New Vegas, but based on how this one does I will review Half-Life 1/Black Mesa pretty soon. Regardless of if it is put into VR!

Established Titles is a scam. According to Scottish Land Law, 1 square foot of a souvenir plot of land can't get you anything. Also They're the same people that own Kamikoto knives and deal dash.

Pretty fucking sad when you have someone who literally made a video about climate change yet they're fine still taking money from a sponsor who's running a scam (multiple actually) on top of pretending to collaborate with a tree planting charity, after first also insinuating to be doing it themselves also.
Funny how ideologies are always so easy to claim vocally on your platform, but when money comes calling it really shows where your morals lie in the end.

I loved the SHIT out of this mod. _Half-Life 2_ is not just one of my all time favorite games, but it also has my most favorite of all game worlds. I love how "lived-in" the world felt, you could imagine what life was like for whoever it was that had setup a home in some remote corner of a forgotten sewer. Seeing it all at full-scale in VR was like a dream come true.
Half-life and Metro are the two games that come to mind for brilliant world building.

Established titles is most likely a scam. According to Scottish law, they can't actually do what they claim to do. A CZcams called Scott Shaffer goes a little bit more in depth about it. Other CZcamsrs like SomeOrdinaryGamers apologised for it.

For anyone using a quest device:
On the grabbing everything issue: That doesn't happen on quest devices since the grab control is more easily avoided (Not an enforcement of facebook. They can burn in hell). This fixes most of the issues with the 2 handed weapons too.
The vehicle sections are completely unplayable (I ended up walking them instead). They do have a FOV function that gives you tunnel vision, but it doenst really help that much.

Ladders were a nightmare for a second until I figured out how to use them. Five minutes later they updated the game and changed the ladder mechanics lol.

I massively agree with you on the gunplay. By the middle of Ravenholme, I was jumping onto the ground crawling backwards shooting In a desperate attempt to escape zombies. I could pick up debris to use as a shield. On the beach section, I would duck and dive in real life to get behind cover. Nova Prospect had me flipping over tables, and throwing grenades back IT IS SO IMMERSIVELY FUN. This game, as well as RE4 translate so incredibly well to VR and because of that, they are timeless.

Good video but the sponsor is a scam. Both Established Titles and Kamimoto knives are scams from a Hong Kong company. A quick search on here YT will show all the info about this company.
Picking things up in Alyx was extremely satisfying.
Why did your intro to half life give me chills, that was too good.
Even if it's not perfect, it's loads more fun than most other VR games out there for the simple fact that it's like a standard keyboard and mouse shooter, but VR. No handholding garbage, actual full length story, and addicting tried and true FPS gameplay.

It is. They claim to sell a piece of land, but they do not actually sell it (seling very small piecies of land is not allowed by scottish law), and even if they did, it would not grant the title to the owner of the land - only thing they are selling is a gag gift. UpIsNotJump probably wasn't aware of this at the time.

I am 17 yet I still absolutely loved Half-Life 2. I appreciate how revolutionary it was, but it remained a good game nonetheless.
Never forget hearing Breen pronounce "fungi" as "foonjee".
You'll be pleased to know that 'fungi', derived from the italian word 'fungi', uses the same pronunciations of the vowels, but uses the hard G sound, like in 'haggard', 'gastronomical', or 'bigly'.
You seem like a pretty "foonjee" to me.
Things you missed mentioning: MODS!!!! You can mod Half Life 2 VR just like the normal game so you can have the smoother graphics and clothing optional gameplay. CONTROL SETTINGS!!!! Tired of grabbing everything automatically? Change grab to a button that's not touch sensitive. VIGNETTES AND 3RD PERSON!!!! The vehicle sections offer vignette which puts a grey circle around your vision making your brain think you're playing a game and not traveling through an apocalyptic hellscape. 3rd Person mode while buggy at least makes it feel like you're running a remote controlled vehicle.
I can always count on my good pal David Bowie to give us honest opinions, fun times, amazing editing and reviews that aren’t really reviews but also are.
"Established Titles" is a scam, you're not actually buying land and not getting a real title. If you want to plant trees, you can do it for as low as 1 dollar with much better charities.

The funny thing about the HL2 opening is that the Black Mesa labs in the flashback look just like they did in HL1, just like a player at the time would remember them.

@@dustojnikhummer nah, half life source maps are identical to half life 1, its just a port of the game with better lighting and such effectively. (well it was when it first released, as you know its gotten more and more buggy over the years)

I love the "Rise and shine" in your voice, its the bit of perfection Half Life 2 was truly missing and no one could realize before..
I only found your channel a few months ago and really like it. It's a little while between videos but it's so worth it. I watch several channels and yours is probably the most unique. I hope the people who watch your videos realise how much effort goes into them, well-timed gags and some wild use of props. Normally I find videos with such quick edits off-putting but yours is all in service of your humour. I see a lot of creators trying to zhush up thier videos with 3 different cameras, 1 of them also having an overactive zoom mode. Great stuff, really clever, really funny and so energetic.

It's a shame about the driving sections because they were some of my favorite parts of the game. As JSS once put it, Half-Life 2's best description is "Road trip from hell".
This is actually an already solved problem by going into the options menu: there is a fixed-horizon option that prevents your view viewing and also a third-person option that completely removed nausea for me. There is also vignette option when vehicles are moving.
I don't know why Upisnotjump didn't note them.

I've been playing VR a LOT over the last couple of years, so I guess I'm fortunate that I was able to play through the vehicle sections without issue.
Nice to see you covering the mod! You're one of the reasons I got in to VR gaming in the first place so I tend to value your VR-centric videos especially highly.
I actually never experienced any major problems with accidentally grabbing items or the two-handed weapons. Not sure why; I assume there must be some difference in either how we hold the controllers or the sensitivity of the touch/grip pads. That's just speculation on my part, though. My experience was generally pretty smooth but that obviously doesn't do anything to change that yours evidently wasn't.
Same with the vehicle sections, but that's more down to me being one of the lucky ones that has an iron stomach in VR. There was one part where I somehow managed to flip the airboat upside down (which isn't supposed to be possible) and had to reload a save, though.

Mr. Jump, you should do the other VR mods by Dr. Beef. He's done: Quake 1, 2 and 3; Doom 1, 2 and even Doom 3 VR for Quest; Half-Life 1 and 2; Return to Castle Wolfenstein; Jedi Knight; and of course Bendy VR. If nothing else, definitely do the Doom 3 VR mod for the Quest. It is amazing and terrifying.

hey, just so you know, established titles is actually a scam. the scottish government has directly stated that property rights and transference do not work like that, and speaking as a scot it's maybe the worst thing on the internet (shy of Scots wikipedia)
The vehicle sections and the movement gave me my first motion sickness experience. I think it's because of your body not feeling the acceleration despite how fast you move. I had to play this mod sitting down to stop the motion sickness and I'd recommend everyone do this if they're feeling motion sick from any vr game.
The vehicle sections were what made me quit playing the original to be honest. Can't imagine how annoying it must be in VR.
I went around it by sitting down when I enter a vehicle.
Wish you could skip them yeah, most of us have played the game.

I do think the old games were definitely not designed for VR. Busy combat is tough, even on a PC where the only things you need to do is press W and click your mouse. VR, you're physically aiming, and so it's hard to actually kill anything. Which is why Alyx has so little enemies, less than a quarter of the enemies in Half Life 2. HL2, you'll be fighting like 10 combine in one single area of a load-zone. Alyx, you're fighting, at most, 5. You need more preparations since everything you do is much slower compared to the fast-paces actions of Half Life 2.

I had an Oculus DK2 way back in the day. Trying HL2VR was the most intensely uncomfortable VR experience I’ve had to this day. But also incredibly compelling.
Do note that the HL2VR he's talking about here is incredibly different from the one back in the DK2 days. This came out very, VERY recently. Not to mention that headsets are far more advanced these days.
@@LARVideos Oh, definitely! I probably should have made that more clear. Weirdly... I believe that old DK2 HL2VR option was made by Valve, which is even funnier.
I remember that old mod. I lasted about 13 seconds in my dk2 before feeling nausea because of the way the movement accelerated!
Looks like the vehicle sections are still 'challenging' to the VR legs in this new one.
I've played the first part in wireless streamed quest 2. (You have a grip button rather than the indexs touch sensor.) It still stands up.
There are even mods you can apply to change it up.

Even though it felt super unpleasant, it was the first time a VR game started crossing that line of my brain remembering it as something I actually went through. Very surreal, very cool.

An idea for people who get motion sickness is to sit down on a chair. You may have to adjust your head position. But it stops you getting dizzy. I play nearly all my VR stuff sat down.

I'm pleased that UpIsNotJump has re-achieved the perfect level of pacing and humour. This is my favourite video of his in a good amount of time, and I love it.

Nah, it's a prop from long ago, where he wanted a single leg, but realized that he can't buy just one leg, he has to buy the whole mannequin. Watch his other videos too, he's good. You'll eventually find the one.
I remember Ian being brought in to... some channel to criticize various video game weapons, and one of them was the HL shotgun. He had some choice words for it.
