I’ve said it 100 times, and I’ll say it 100 times more; I feel genuinely sad for any wrestling fan that missed the Attitude era. It was must watch TV every damned week. Monday Night Raw was total magic. Every week was PPV quality entertainment.
I was 16 years old and selling drugs at the time. And i wouldnt leave the house until Raw and Nitro were over.

I will never forget being a kid seeing the STACKED WWF roster go at it in the late 90s.
The Royal Rumble is a good indication of how stacked the roster is. The two most revered are 1992 & 2001.
2001 for me was just insane when it turned into a Hardcore Royal Rumble@jp3813

Man I find it amazing how different a WWF show from 1990 and 1999 looked and feel, compared to today where a 2010 vs 2020 show is barely distinguishable.

The 90s to me was the best days of wrestling hands down. As i got older wrestling changed i changed and never looked back. Now that I’m almost 40 I watch these and think of my dad.

@@TomasFunes-rt8rdI agree . I'd say 1985-1989 was absolutely the peak. Tag team division was STACKED. The only crime in that Era was too many stars and only 3 titles(world, ic, tag). Mr perfect, Don muraco, studd, bundy, orndorff, piper, rude, bravo, bossman, gang/akeem, valentine, beefcake and on and on. There should have been at least 3 more singles titles, and another lower tag title.
Damn. I met Big Boss Man at a hotel. I was between 12 and 15yo. I fanboyed out and he was so nice, his natural speaking voice had an authoritative tone but he spoke nicely during a heel run. Made me promise not to tell he wasnt so mean. Im 45 now, kayfabe is broken, and Ray is no longer with us. Rest In Peace Ray.

That for sure. Piper never having the title, he could have been the face. I don't think the Undertaker got a run like he should have, mainly because he lived in the main card. They never put a mid-card belt on Taker.
@@jonnygobang87 Taker's a multi-time tag team champ and a one-time hardcore champ. I believe he never wanted a lengthy run as world champ b/c his gimmick was strong enough on its own.

I was a 80s kid and a teen thru the 90s and I consider the 90s to be the last greatest era of all time. WWE Attitude Era was legendary, I got hooked about 1998, the storylines were epic and hilarious. Rip Attitude Era, you are missed badly!
i grew up with bret hart as my favorite one. but most of bret's rivals, i love them also even when i was young. owen hart, shawn michaels. mr.perfect. i had a tough time to adjust with the new stone cold era. but when i am looking back, i am ok with stone cold. that was a clear turn around and his personality was perfect at that time and he acts it perfectly. but i still dont understand how the rock became a superstar. his character is so shallow, i dont even know what it is. i think it switched to flashy shallow antics era. bret hart, stone cold, even its all act but u could feel there is something realistic underneath. i dont fell it from the rock. thats when i turned off.... then of course the wwe got bigger with the rock that made me think how shallow the people are overall....
Indeed The Attitude Era was crazy. 97 to me was a great year prior to The Attitude era. Was in few aspects sad as the year was closer to coming to an end but such a fun year to follow when considering both sides of The Monday Night War. Was WrestleMania 13 from then on watching the transition just the beginning of that year the big hunts one being the Slammys 97. Still had its goofiness but such early hints def set the mold in the direction WWF had to go thanks to WCW forcing Vince to do so. Wasn't til 98 when WWF brought in Tyson for WrestleMania 14 they were more mainstream and Austin to me was solidified a full Babyface his transition was quite interesting. Like no matter what Vince McMahon tried to or not tried Austin became one of those stars no matter what WWF could edit the crowd fx or audience responses all they(Vince) wanted, wrestlers like HBK could do whatever they could (if any intention) there was no stopping the buzz Stone Cold already had and eventually became an understatement. Other than a disqualification I believe at an In Your House ppv 1997 in Rochester NY following WrestleMania 13 (disqualification) Austin never defeated Bret Hart via pin or submission throughout their feud. To me it's said as a good thing the fact he never had to beat Bret to get over and stay over. Bret didn't have to loose to Austin to get Austin over. Hell I believe had Bret never left WWF regardless of how fans felt of him or how well or not so well he would've transitioned into The Attitude Era promo wise Austin and Bret's matches were so good their feud it could've continued to spill into 98 or come back into fruition for a second if not more than one more time and still received great criticism. Broken neck or not Bret was great at making wrestlers of all sizes and styles look good whether they're 100% or not he knew how to compensate when injuries or whatever damage was concerned. Great example Btet Hart vs Razor Ramon Royal Rumble 93 title match. Would've never thought Scott Hall went into that match recovering from a knee injury. Hart knew how to work around that looking out for him and making the Razor Ramon character out to be a challenge. Such a fun match and great small build up to watch

You know the WWF was great in this era when you don’t have to watch a match to be crazily entertained. The pre match buildups were so awesome. I would literally go to blockbuster every week and rent a WWF video
Yep same here. Like everything else, it's lost its luster because it's so easily accessible now.
I used to rent WWF videos as well. I would love to own the whole Attitude Era box set and re-watch every episode in order. I would take VHS before DVD just to give it more of a authentic feel.
To be fair, Vince himself said that when Ted Turner called him to declare that the latter is in the rasslin' business, the former responded that he's in the entertainment business. Meaning that the matches themselves were an afterthought for the WWE. Dave Meltzer gave lots of 5-star match ratings for WCW, NJPW, AJPW, etc... but before NXT TakeOver was a thing, only five for WWE.
@@jp3813 and notice how WCW is no longer a thing now. For all his faults, Vince understood entertainment and how to put on an amazing show (until the last ten or so years) he also single-handedly ended the era of the territories either consuming them or putting them out of business entirely and truly brought wrestling to the mainstream. Yes the actual wrestling is important, but he knew American/ Western audiences preferred characters, people that resonated with the audience in some shape or form whether it be relatability or hatred etc, and that character work came first because it gave a reason TO watch the matches. The way Vince sees it is “who cares about a five star rating from some smark, when I just out Madison square garden and got a million PPV buys and the other show couldn’t even get 20,000 fans to show up but did get five stars.” And until his last couple of years at the head of WWE he was always able to ADAPT with the times, which was also extremely vital. Where other companies refused to change with the times Vince always saw the curve and because of it remained two steps ahead. Idk man he’s a terrible person in my eyes and I strongly dislike him but he’s also a genius to me it’s crazy.

This was the only Era I watched, I even went to a match with my pops once. Never could catch on to saying WWE. It will forever be WWF for me.
Wrestling's best decade. Period. I used to watch wrestling since 1999. The WWF in the 90s had stars like Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Roddy Piper, The Ultimate Warrior, Bret Hart, Razor Ramon, Shawn Michaels, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, The Rock, The Undertaker, Triple H, Mick Foley, and others. This is the best decade of the 20th century.
WWF had a bigger audience in the 1980s compared to the 1990s, but WCW was only competitive in the 1990s, so it is 50/50 between the two for me.

It's hard to argue eras because so much of wrestling is nostalgia for your childhood. I know Wrestlemania IX sucked to most people, but my grandpa taped the PPV and sent me the VHS tape and I would watch it over and over. As bad as it may have really been, it has a place in my heart and I think most fans feel the same way about their childhood era.

I'm 43 so I was able to see the hulkamania era along with the attitude era and now this current social media era.. The hulkamania era was a great fit for the late 80's because that was the innocent culture comic book hero at that time.... But once the 90's hit, the whole "say your prayers and eat your vitamins" good guys schtick got tired and the 90's were more high energy, heavy metal (and remember there was nooooo social media then) to me 1990-2010 was the best era in WWE/F

Man i grew up watching wrestling in these years and loved it as a kid. Until the UFC came out then i quit watching wrestling and became a huge MMA fan. But this was a good trip down memory lane. Crazy how well this was put together.

I was also born In September 1990, and I fell in love with wrestling in 1995. My brother and I would switch between wCw & WWF. I stopped watching wrestling back in 2007 or so.

I have to see the next episode…but I can relate to what u said about the ruthless aggression/pg era too, I warmed up to it later on but in the beginning I fell off…I coudnt take wrestling serious with Austin and Rock being gone and guys like JBL and Edge being world champions lol

Fun story in case anyone is curious: I actually worked with Boris Zhukov, he's a truck driver for the company I worked for. He's getting close to retirement so they gave him an office position a couple months ago, he works in recruiting. I used to drive with him at the distribution center I was dedicated out of and see him everyday. Really cool guy but likes to keep to himself so I never bothered him much. He actually had the name Boris Zhukov put on the side of his truck too, I wonder if anyone made the connection that it was really him.
The Women’s Championship was reactivated in 1993 and Alondra Blaze won a tournament in December of that year to crown her as the inaugural champion.

I've been watching since '85. The 90's were definitely the best decade for wrestling. Not just with WWF. I loved WCW in the early-mid 90's too. The best decisions Vince made in the early 90's was pushing Bret & Shawn as singles wrestlers. The worst creative decision was have Sgt. Slaughter become an anti-American. It just didn't make sense.

Vince pushing Bret and HBK while a good idea Vince clearly didn't want to but do to the Steroid Scandal he had no choice. Sgt. Slaughter become an anti-American was stupid thing to do but not a suprise since Vince likes to use Real life issues into the WWF.

The Rockers Breakup on December 4, 1991, airing on January 12, 1992 as part of WWF Superstars Of Wrestling right into the 1998 Royal Rumble and the injury to his lower back and the loss of the WWF Championship at WrestleMania XIV, WWF Commissioner. 1 failed reign as Intercontinental Champion (3rd), 2 failed reigns as WWF Champion (1st, 2nd), 2 failed reigns as World Tag Team Champion (1st, 2nd), 2× Royal Rumble Winner

1993 - Birth of Monday Night RAW, Bret Hart MVP, Lex Luger Face Turn, Yokosuna WWF Title, Diesel joins HBK as his bodyguard, The Kid beat Razor Ramon
1994 - Bret vs Owen, Shawn vs Razor, 2 winners? Chuck Norris? Diesel beats Backlund in 8 seconds, etc.
1995: Shawn Michaels MVP, Diesel held championship for almost full year, Lawrence Taylor? Owen & Yoko, the In Your House PPV series (worst year anyway)
1996 - Boydream Dream, Austin 3:16, Undertaker/Mankind, Mark Henry debuts, Rocky Maivia, etc.
1997 - The Hart Foundation, The Birth of D Generation-X, Stone Cold face turn, Undertaker wwf champion, Hell in A Cell, Kane Debuts, Montreal Screwjob, Rock joins The Nation, etc.
1998 - Austin/McMahon rivalry, DX vs The Nation, Undertaker vs Kane, Mike Tyson, Mankind, The Rock turns on The people, DX invades WCW, etc.
1999 - Austin/McMahon rivalry continues, Rock/Austin rivalry, Mankind winning the WWF title, HHH becoming The Game, The Corporate Ministry, Kurt Angle debuts, Big Show debuts, Y2J debuts, Rock & Sock Connection, SmackDown, etc.

You should definitely cover the 80s. The highest Nielsen rating that the Monday Night Wars achieved for a single show was 8.1 when Raw went unopposed, while the highest for Nitro was 6.0, also unopposed. Even if you combine those numbers despite them happening on different dates, they still don't reach the 1st Main Event special's 15.2 in 1988 [33 million viewers] that remains an all-time record for the business to this day. Raw's most-watched segment on TV was Austin vs Taker on 06/28/99, which achieved a 9.5 rating [10.72 million viewers] after Nitro went off the air eight minutes early. Yet the entirety of the 2nd Main Event special drew an 11.6, the 3rd w/ 12.8, the 4th w/ 8.6, & the 5th w/ 6.7 in '91. The original 31-episode run of Saturday Night's Main Event also drew bigger show ratings in general [reaching a zenith of 11.6] than either Raw or Smackdown [the latter maxing out at 5.8, merely two decimals above the NWA's 1st Clash of the Champions] during their respective heydays. Those are just some of the reasons why The Golden Era is officially referred to as such.
@@iamme25yago While convenience has greatly improved, I don't think the WWE considers any era after the early 2000s as a boom period. Hence, my comparison was mainly Golden vs Attitude.
Honestly Vince saved his own company with his character and the storyline with stone cold, one might even say Shane had a big part in it too with some of his matches and story lines. The attitude era and Monday night wars was an awesome time as a wrestling fan

Shane deserves mention when attitude era is discussed. After Austin, Rock and Vince, Shane was as significant as any other personality
I literally watched this entire 3 hour video. I cried, smiled, then cried again. I remembered all of this and was proud to witness that era of wrestling.
If it wasn't for the attitude era I would of never fallen in love with wrestling. I was five when I saw the rattlesnake deliver his historical iconic Austin 3:16 promo. Thank you

Talk about nostalgia! I'm 36 now and unless you experienced 90s wrestling personally, you'll never be able to understand one of the most memorable epochs that is 90s wrestling. This period had a profound effect on my childhood that was both compelling as well as influential. I can only empathize for the countless souls that missed this era. The 90s was the last great decade in my opinion and I can only weep for those of you who weren't there.
I was at MSG for Wrestlemania X! My friend’s uncle was a pro wrestler at the time for one of the many different associations. He sweared to us that Shawn Michaels getting knocked off the ladder and landing on his balls on the ropes wasn’t in the script… but it was a defining moment
The 90s despite it's ups and downs especially in 93 - 95, i overall loved it because it not only gave us so many iconic moments but we saw a whole crop of guys come in to become big stars with some going on to becoming legends and household names. For me, the 90s was an amazing time to be a wrestling fans

Yeah, the Taker was not only an awesome gimmick, but I'm so glad it didnt go to waste by being portrayed by someone else..bc Mark was destined to be huge, and the gimmick had the potential to be big. It was the perfect marriage of talent-gimmick..

2 days before his debut Mark Calloway had lost on WCW Saturday Night to Sting as a jobber. It was so funny to me to see him walk out as a zombie in the WWF and become such a huge star.
I have to say Flair was one of the best!! Also Sherri was way underrated as one of the best heel managers of all time!!! IMO

In 97 I moved in with my uncle who wanted both WCW n WWF at the same time always flipping back n forth n got me watching again after yrs of not watching I was all the way WCW at the beginning just loved that story but bye the end of 98 I was slowly watching WWF more the Rock was my favorite wrestler ever n I loved Stone Cold too n between them n the other storylines in the attitude era I was straight up WWF bye the end of the 90s n early 00s that era is the greatest in wrestling history easily

Thank you! You just bridge the gap for me. I stoped watching around the end of 91 and started watching again around the end of 97. When I started watching again I couldn’t believe how things had changed from the neon, cartoonish style I had grown up with to the darker Attitude Era. Al’s well as how did the mild mannered face commentator (Vince McMahon, who was only rumored to be the owner back the ) morph into the heel who was not only the owner but flaunted it.
Now you just showed me comprehensively what exactly happened in those years.

Loved this era. I grew up loving the Hart Foundation. Then to see Bret going on to have so much success was unreal. Bret v Mr Perfect had to be the greatest matches ever. I’d love to have seen them both wrestle Rick Rude. Would have been classics. 👍👍👍👍👍
This was great. I grew up with this era, I'm not sure whether to feel old or glad I was a part of all of this. My doctor growing up was Dr. Romascavage in PA, who was also the doctor for most of the wrestlers (he was in the hell in a cell with Foley when he fell and is in the footage) I got to talk to The Rock on the phone, and meet a lot of the wrestlers of the day. It was a great time to be a kid. Every Monday night was awesome, every pay per view (which I would get illegally with the 2 pennies in the cable box) are memories I will forever have. I went to a lot of house shows, got autographs and pictures with Mankind, The Hardy Boyz & Lita, Jerry The King etc. I will always remember this time.

Curt Henning was a very underrated wrestler back in the 90s. His talent was undeniable, but the talent back then drowned out his greatness. Mr. Perfect was never my favorite wrestler. I did, however, admire his talent. He's one of the wrestlers that could make a work look absolutely real.

I remember fondly when wrestling used to be on Saturday mornings at 10:00 a.m., This was from the early 80s to I think the mid-90s, Was never a Hogan fan but I can say one of the biggest highlights for me was the first time that the Ultimate Warrior came out , Wow when he would run full blast to the ring and then proceeded to go crazy for like 5 minutes LOL, only to find out years and years later that he didn't get along with most of the other wrestlers and they all said the same thing that after he would do that run to the ring and bounce back and forth between the ropes he was basically all done he was spent, unfortunately he didn't last very long in WWF,
I got to go to a house show in Portland around 1990. Saw all the greats - hogan, Jake the snake, macho man, Andre, hacksaw, big boss man, UW etc. One of my most favorite childhood memories.

98-02 was such a great era. Chyna was actually be able to compete with the guys without it looking gimmicky. Jericho and Benoit had a great storyline, Rock and Triple H too. Even the hardcore division with the Hollys was fantastic. And Mick Foley was the icing on top with Undertaker and Kane. I could go on for hours. It felt like half the division could have been a worthy champion.

You stated the Womens Title was deactivted until 1998. It was actually brought back in 1993 with Medusa (as Alundra Blayze) winning a tournemant. It was deactivated again when Madusa left for WCW (the trash can incident) in 1995.

They killed any potential stars turning them into jobbers while holding the the company hostage by threatening quitting etc. I liked hbk at 1st but just like Hogan it became stale and sour that they always won no matter what. The Calgary screw job was the worst tho. Made the man lose at home to his own finisher. That's fucked up

As a new fan of wrestling this channel is the bEST! It gives me all the history that I need to know to have conversations with my family about what they thought about wrestling at the time as they lived through it. I already know that the full early 2000's and 2010's review is going to be something else.

It's probably been mentioned already but thr WWF women's title was revived in 1994, with Alundra Blayze (bka Madusa Micelli) winning in a tournament to become champion.
The good thing is We had seen this Era and the bad thing is those moments will never come back 😔

I remember when Owen Hart became a "Phantom Champion". It was a coliseum home video, in a Lumberjack Match. For that couple minutes it was incredible seeing Owen high on the heels' shoulders holding the WWF Championship. They shoulda kept it and have Bret win it back at SummerSlam.

I turned 12 years old in 1990. I am very thankful that I grew up in an amazing time for wrestling. NWA/WCw and WWF were phenomenal during the 80's and 90's. It was so awesome to be a teenager during the peak of wrestling. The Monday Night war was incredible and very real. It most likely will never happen again.

You could do videos of every year through the 2000’s up until the current day, then go back and do NWA or WCW year in videos. That is months of video content for you!!
1983-2003 was the greatest 20 year stretch in Wrestling History! Sooooo much happened in that time period. I may be biased as 83 was when I first started watching wrestling and y 2003 I was in my mid 20’s and just didn’t like it as much as pretty much all the stars I grew up loving (Hogan, Savage, Flair, Rock, SCSA to name a few) we’re all basically gone. The following eras had their own stars to be fair, but imo, to this day, the greatest wrestlers of all time still wrestled during this era

The good times of Wrestling. I truly have never watched it since around maybe 99…. But from 83 to 99 I had a hell of a run as a fan. Good times. Could never watch it now.
For me hands down the absolute best decade to be a wwf fan.
I was a huge wrestling fan at this time I was 16 and 1990. And I remember all of this and what really bothered me was when the warrior beat Hogan they didn't congratulate the warrior the first thing they said was Hogan takes another step towards immortality. Even at the time I felt that that was a giant cop out and Hogan was a giant baby.
Hogan was a giant baby and a habitual liar. When the warrior won Hogan had to stick around for warriors celebration to hog the limelight just like throughout his entire career. Another time was when Randy Savage won and he had to stick around to shit on Macho Man's time to shine. He's a piece of shit too. He made undertaker think he botched a tombstone on Hogan and for 2 years had to live with that guilt. He finally watched the footage and hogan's head never touched the chair but he sold it that his neck was fucked up. I'm glad I wasn't a hulkamaniac I wanted Andre the giant to win wrestlemania 3 and I wanted savage to win also and I was ecstatic that the warrior had won fuck Terry. He's a piece of shite lmao

Agreed. My opinion of him was always that he was a limited wrestler, could not cut a promo and had a fragile ego. After what his son did to his own best friend and Hogan and his vile wife just got him out of jail and babied him, I thought he was a POS person all round.

As a kid the Undertaker stories weren't all bad, just underwhelming. You were just rooting for The Undertaker to win no matter who he fought. He's probably the only wrestler I've rooted for to win no matter who he went up against.
That why wwe games still use some of these legends in the game.....the current superstars don't have the pull factor

To put it in short the Early 90s belonged to The Warrior 90 - 92
Mid 90s to Bret 93 - 96 and Shawn 96 - 97
And Austin 98 - 2000 and then the Rock from 2000 onwards
Incorrect, Hulk was still bigger in the early 90s and Warrior bombed as champion. 93-96 was a mix of Bret, Taker and HBK. Austin was the most popular from 97 until he retired in 03. The Rock was never as popular as him as a wrestler.
Bret vs HBK would remind me of Goku vs Vegeta.
