  • 💪 The Blue Spring kit upgrade or fuel pressure regulator is a low-cost, must-have recommended modification that will increase fuel pressure on your 6.0 Powerstroke. Even simple aftermarket performance upgrades can easily challenge the limits of your stock fuel system. Making a huge impact on fuel pressure will help prevent damage to your injectors and even the performance and longevity of your injector life. Common pressure increases can be 10-15 PSI as well as increased engine performance, increased driveability, and smoother power delivery.

    I installed the blue spring upgrade on my 2004 F-250 6.0 last week. I can say I noticed the improvement in performance and increased fuel mileage! I am currently 80 miles farther on this tank of diesel versus my last tank prior to the install. All with the same hauling and daily driving! Best $80 I have spent in a while!

    We had an injector go out in our '03 Excursion 6.0L, clogged the egr and pouring fuel smoke out the exhaust. So, we had the shop do an egr delete and replace the whole bank, 4, injectors on one side. Half a year later, wife hits a deer and we get that fixed, I'm driving it around for errands then home and the FPR is leaking badly. Well, I knew I should've done this kit when we bought it 3 years ago.

    Question. Have you experienced a noisy fuel system after a blue spring install? My 2003 6.0 has a strange noise when you first turn the key and the system is building pressure. Sort of a buzzing sound “in addition to the normal injector buzz”Like a leaky pressure scuba regulator or letting off air brakes slowly. The same sound happens intermittently while the truck is operating. A dealer did the install.

    Hi, I just bought another 6.0 Diesel 2005 F-450 Runs Rough, Bought it cheap. I am looking for upgrades to salvage this engine or try to find out if I need to replace the engine. Previous 1 owner says he has never done anything to the engine except maintenance, change oil, fuel filters, etc; He said it died on him several times, so he parked it, bought a '16 Duramax, and put the F-450 in his backyard. After about 8 months, I finally bought the truck where i thought I needed to be. I got it running and Now it's all discovery, and finding out where to start with which parts to put on it.

    Hi Wade. Thank you for these videos. They are most helpful. I drank the cool aide and pulled the trigger. I just finished installing an oil bypass and coolant filter kit. Next up, the Blue spring replacement kit project. Wade, because I don't know the maintenance history of the truck, I was planning on replacing both fuel filters as part of this install. I cracked the upper filter cap. 2 questions. I think it was because I should have started with the lower filter first to relieve the pressure in the system. Is this correct? And, should I do so during this installation or just move forward as shown in the video and start with the blue spring replacement and then move on to the filters? Thank you.

    If you do this conversion make sure that you use the International/ Ford parts. I recently working on a 06 6.0L and looked at the fuel spring to make sure it was good to go. The spring that I took out was blue but comparing it to a real International blue spring the aftermarket "blue spring" was a lot weaker and the coils were a lot thinner in diameter. So make sure that the spring that you are putting in is a real International blue spring replacement spring and not just a "blue Spring".

      I second this, my 6.0 has 275xxx miles, was leaking from the bottom of the regulator. Easy job for sure, worked on my own vehicles for years. The two nuts on the compressed fitting for the fuel line were essentially seized together.
      I could not get them to separate no matter what, unfortunately I too ended up having the fuel line bend and crimp at the elbow. Not a big deal, just another trip to the store for some universal fuel line and hose clamps. Cut off 2” of bent/crimped elbow section and replaced with new flex line. Added a good half an hour to the job but worked great!
      I ended up having to vice the nuts soaked in WD-40 to get them separated just fyi, that was the worst part!
      But to agree with the OP, if your rig is high mileage and this hasn’t been done yet, be aware of this being a possibility before you try to loosen the 13/16” nut 😂

      I do not know the for sure answer to that question. I would check the part numbers on the acc pedal on both systems and see if they match up. That will tell the story.

    Can you answer a question for me replace left pump And sending unit now and pump is cycling getting foggy diesel the truck will run for about 3 to 4 minutes then die upper filter housing nothing but air can you help me

      @dwthomle Před 4 lety

      Check the HFCM and make sure the fuel filter is seat correctly and that you have no leaks. If it draws air any where between the tank pick up tube and the pump in the HFCM the system will not prime. This may be the cause of what you are seeing. I had it happen on my rig.

    Is there a suggested mileage to replace the blue kit with another mine has been for 70000 miles

    Of course I over tightened the top right bolt and stripped her. Hopefully the torque that’s left the blue thread locker will keep me out of leak city!

    When installing a new poppet seal does the 45 go outside to the filter base or the flat side instuctions are vague on this ?

    I recently got an 06 6.0. I have the blue spring kit just havent done the install yet. I keep reading about people getting 100 psi and that not being a good thing. Can you help guide me to what is acceptable and whats not?

    • @thoroughbreddiesel
      @thoroughbreddiesel  Před 3 lety

      Once you do the blue spring kit, you should have anywhere between 60-70 psi at idle and that is optimal. Higher pressure will likely mean a fuel restriction, which in turn is lack of fuel flow. 60-70 psi is optimal.

    What was the before and after psi. I did the blue spring and now I'm at 70 psi.....seems to have helped skips under load

    Is there a way I can tell if my 6.0 has the spring upgrade without disassembly?

    • @thoroughbreddiesel
      @thoroughbreddiesel  Před 11 měsíci

      You can check lift pump pressure and see if its correct. But that’s as involved as checking for the upgraded spring.

      Trip back to the store for universal line, cut 2” of elbow out and replace with 5” of flex line and crimps. Ask me how I know 😂

    Would be helpful in defining what you mean by older model or newer model what years you’re referring to before I get into the project.

    Question: What exactly is the "upgrade"? sorry if I missed it and i'm not trying to be negative but rather further my knowledge.. I bought a new ford BSK and I'm all for replacing but I've yet to hear what the upgrade is verses the original?

    • @thoroughbreddiesel
      @thoroughbreddiesel  Před rokem +1

      The BSK increases fuel delivery pressure to the injectors by 10 psi or so. Plus is a upgrade to a wore out regulator spring with high mileage on it that doesn’t allow correct fuel pressure to the injectors.
