  • I get people asking me questions on DieseTechRon.com about the steps I leave out on the shorter videos, so I made one that covers the complete install from start to finish. I know it's long but people had a lot of questions.

Today, its 2022 and after turning wrenches on gas hi-po and race cars for over 40 years, I'm now retired and have to provide service on my one and only vehicle, a 6.0 Powerstroke. In recent years, I've replaced the turbo, injectors as well as a variety of sensors and other service projects. Earlier this year, I deducted that it was time for a new oil cooler and EGR cooler and last week, it became time to address this without delay so I returned to CZcams and found this video. This video IS the FINAL WORD on performing this replacement. I wish I could have known Ron when he was still with us. His videos are brilliant and whenever I've needed to research or perform any service on this truck, I've always seeked out Ron's videos for the best assistance........still after so many years since his passing, he's still helping hundreds and hundreds of us working on our own 6.0s. God bless him and to all his survivors and family. And if you're about to tackle any project on a 6.0 Turbo and find a video by Ron, rest assured you've found all and the very best help you'll need to complete whatever project it is that you're preparing to tackle. RIP, Ron.

To the family of Ron. First off my condolences. I recently just bought my first diesel. Researching the main issues led me to see Ron's videos. I can't tell you how much he has helped me. When I read that he passed my heart broke. Although it was years ago having just met him through his videos I mourned. Ron is a special man, it takes a certain (word) to be a teacher. Not only was his instruction precise and dumb downed for a not even close to a mechanic (me) it was as if his guidance was made just for me. I'm not sure if you will read this but in the chance that you do I pray that your hearts are at peace and I thank you (all of you) that shared in his life. Most of all I want you to know how much I appreciate him. Ron is the utmost of what I try to do in life : Always teach with love. God bless you.

Over 700k views on CZcams, and I must have watched this video at least 100 times while doing my 6.0. His explanations are so clear and to the point. It bothers me that he is gone from this world. But the knowledge that he shared and that I now have - Thanks to him - have served me well. Sometimes I find myself asking, "OK Ron, what do I do now?" And the answer comes to me. Sometimes I feel like he is watching while I work on my truck. Like a Guardian Mechanic Angel. God Bless you Ron. Yours was a life well lived.

Ron, just did an EGR delete, oil cooler, STC fitting, turbo drain tube, blue spring update, banjo bolts and all of the goodies that go along with that on my 07 on Friday.
I watched this video once or twice and it made all of the difference! The tips about how to get to certain bolts, how many are here and there really sped it up for me. Other than a leak at the paper gasket on the turbo feed line, everything went perfect. Got that sorted out and now its running great.

I'd like to add my own thanks to Ron and condolences/thanks to his family.
I've done work on my vehicles before and mostly refer to a few videos to supplement manuals, but since I found Ron's videos they are not only thorough enough to follow step by step, they have also such detail as far as pitfalls that I felt absolutely confident as I embarked on the deepest dive I've ever made on a diesel.
His method and manners pass the smell test when it comes to knowing if the guy in the video knows his stuff, and fine details serve as waypoints on previous service/damage done to your vehicle... these are just 2 examples:
Case in point #1: broken dipstick: yes. mine was broken, clearly by someone who tried to remove the air filter by the Haynes manual procedure!
Case in point #2: hydraulic torque on bolts. When I was cleaning the top of the engine off I discovered the HPOP cover bolts were only hand tight. As I removed each one-by-one to re-torque they literally popped out of their holes under pressure. Because he was so clear about blowing the oil out of blind bolt holes I may have averted or corrected another oil leak.
    That's just 2 of many.
Having had some recent very bad service at a dealer which prompted me to NOT spend upwards of $3000 more, Ron's video saved my truck, and also eased my concerns about a head gasket (at least now I will feel confident to do it in the future if need be). Seriously, it's almost as if you have an expert friend accompanying you to the shop so you know when you're getting honest service.
Ron's videos are the best I've ever found on this site, hands down. What a legacy.

Awesome video!! I just did my 04 last week. I followed your video and had no issues except when you mentioned the doorman oil cooler gasket. So I threw out my oil cooler and got an OEM ford cooler with updated egr cooler, new turbo, blue spring upgrade and all new filters and fluids.Truck runs great. All your videos helped me. I started this because I had a p0299 and turbo was seized. Thanks again!

If you've done any repairs to the 6.0 that required removing the coolant you may just have air in the cooling system. Make sure you turn the heat on and take the cap off the degas bottle to purge any air in the system after you have fill it with coolant. Sometimes it takes several times of replacing and taking off the coolant cap to purge all the air out (you see it bubble in the degas bottle from the bottom where hose attaches). Try this before you spend thousands. Also make sure you don't have any small coolant leaks in the radiator or a leaking or bad water pump. Also make sure the fan clutch is operating properly before making any costly repairs. Replacing the radiator, water pump and fan clutched fixed my problem with the coolant leaking out of the degas cap. I was told I had blown head gasket even though I already have ARP head studs and replaced head gasket when studs were installed. Beware of BOGUS mechanics and repairs shops. ( The infamous Ford Stealer Ship)
Coolant kit which includes the water pump and fan clutch are about $300.00 at Auto Zone. Life time warranty
Radiator also about $300.00. Life time warranty
Total for both was about $600.00 and only took about 6 hrs. Hope this will help someone... Over and out :-)

I just sat down at my computer after taking my time, over three days, replacing my oil cooler and updating the STC fitting. I bought my truck used with 150k miles on it. My truck already had the dummy plugs and STC fitting updated. Wasted time and money on my part. Other than that I would not have had the courage or know how to do this job if it weren't for this video Ron. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the world. Just one thing, you never mentioned draining the coolant before you begin the job. After I got it all back together a code tripped for number 4 injector wire. I hadn't connected the plug all the way. Thx again Ron.
