- In this week's vlog we are trying Serbian snacks for the first time.
We love Serbian food, so we went to the supermarket and bought almost every Serbian snack, drink and candy we saw, and we bought way too much! We are trying Jelen beer, chips and popcorn by the popular Serbian brands Chipsy and Clipsy. They had interesting flavours like Hot Dog or Kaymak flavour. We also tried sweet and savory corn treats by the brand Smoki, Plazma Cookies, Jaffa Cakes, and some strange banana flavoured chocolate (Bananica) and so much more (including some other Balkan snacks)!

We went into the store saying "we'll only buy a few things" but we couldn't help ourselves because everything looked so interesting 😊. Plazma and smoki are our childhood , and eurocream ( im 50yo)
Plazma was originally created as baby food, therefore mild and with some vitamins and minerals added and often eaten with milk.
Interesting! We actually have something just like that in Canada, where I (Brandon) am from. They certainly don't have all sorts of other flavors now though. Haha. 👶

Plazma + Milk all the way. 😂 Kids like to eat is as breakfast like that or they eat them just from the box as a snack at the playground. In Germany you can buy them at turkish stores and they go under the name "Lane" because of some licencing issues, but it is the same company and product.
I (Anja) actually thought that I had seen similar cookies in Germany before but I didn't quite remember what they looked like or what they were called. We took the Plazma cookies home and dipped them into tea with milk. It made them better. Very yummy! 😊

Yeah, Bronhi is brand made by Croatian "Kraš" and very popular in Serbia among some other of their products (I'm personally fan of Kraš's "Dorina" chocolate). A lot of products from former Yugoslavian republics was popular here before civil war so when it comes to the food some habits never change. Same goes for Slovenian Cockta.
You have to try original/normal bananicas (bananitsas not bananikas) that consist of just the banana milky filling and outer chocolate layer and not the mint ones. Every single Serb hates the mint ones, I honestly don’t know why they keep on producing it. The point is; you have to try the originals (bananicas, jafas, munchmellows, plazma etc) not the other versions cause theyre just trying to sell them more by adding a variety of flavours. The original is nice, simple, and nostalgic.
I don't know that I could ever like bananika, but we still still try again one day! The other originals we will try for sure. Hahaha.

We took the box home, and tried them again with all of the above. So much better with a drink!
Just put it in milk and let plazma take that milk for 2 or 3 min. and just devour all that goodness.

I blend a packet of it in a blender and mix it with milk, my mom fed me that when I was a child and its a staple of my childhood.

We tried the ones with peanut butter inside after this video. We were obsessed. Took some home!
If you guys have the chance you should also try prima štapići (sticks) and pardon ribice (goldfish) if you do don't try them

Anja said Smoki 100% correct although there is small northeast corner of country where they use long "o" btw maybe the difference between german and serbian smoki corn snacks comes from the origin of corn? as corn is actually our regular crop on fields in serbia
Never tried Bronki or the Wow smoki but everything else is very much my childhood! Thanks for being here and not trying the most popular things but the other things too! You should definitely come back to us, visit a few more cities and towns, and try more flavours and snacks! We are always happy when we see travelers and visitors!
Thanks! We asked a local friend for a few suggestions, then just picked a bunch of random additional items as well. It was tough to make sure they were all actually Serbian, given than we can't read the packages. 😅

If you also see biscuits with all powder sugar on them you need to try them they have also a lot of crunchy nuts in them and are juat super delicious. Can’t remember their name but they usually come in transparent wrapping.
Some stuff i'd definitely reccomend are:

Tuc- I recommend the sour cream and onion one
A normal plain Bananica,, i know alot of serbians who hate the mint one too haha
Kinder Bueno things are also popular!

Guarana is a popular energy drink brand here too
Is Eurokrem blok different than Cipiripi? We actually tried the Guarana energy drink during our trip. The Remix Knjaz milos looks good though. We'll try that next time. Thanks for suggesting! 😊

Yes, we actually cannot believe we missed it. We were so busy doing other stuff we didn't realize we didn't visit one of the main attractions in Belgrade until we already left. But I suppose it's just another reason to revisit Belgrade in the future 😊

You guys are obviously in love with food - so basically, you seem to love all the food 😃Great videos anyway and more important they are fairly long enough to present subject. I'm really sick of those people making marathon documentaries to get more viewing time and 70% of content is pointless waste of time. You're straight to the point, short enough and fully informative. 20-30 minutes is perfect for this kind of videos to keep attention of viewers. Keep up with great work.
We do love food! It's tough to find a balance between including a lot in a video to make it interesting, and not making it too long, so that it becomes boring. We've only been dong CZcams for a little over a year, so we're still working on finding that balance. We always try to make videos under 30 videos, if at all possible. It's hard enough as it is to keep most peoples attention for even 5-10 minutes. Hahaha.

You could try chipsy domacinski with cheese, it's a blue bag. Domacinski with kajmak it's no tasteful enough.
The taste of the kajmak one wasn't bad, but it's true - it definitely wasn't as strong as we had hoped. We will have to try those other ones next time!

Seeing the first 15 seconds puts a smile on my face. I was born in Germany but my parents are from Serbia. Smoki is without a doubt one of the best snacks I tasted.

The most popular brands in Serbia are Najlepse Zelje chocolates by Stark, Bananica by Stark, Smoki by Stark, Prima by Stark, Plazma by Bambi, Jaffa by Jaffa, Honey Hearts by Pionir, Eurokrem and Eurokrem Blok by Swiss Lion Takovo... - we've had these for decades. Of course, nowadays they all come in multiple varieties, and there are other brands and products as well, but as someone said, classics are always the best. The best Croatian dessert is Bajadera and Fontana Ledene Kocke by Kras. These brands pretty much used to cover the entire former Yugoslavia. I am sure many still do.
We still have so many more snacks to try! It was hard to choose.

Bronhi is made by a Croatian company " Kras" pronounced Krash, and it is bought when you need a little help for your lungs if you feel like you are getting or have a cough or a cold.
The Pionir brand "Negro" is also bought for the same reason to breathe better.
Makes sense! It was super interesting. Don't think we'd ever had anything like it before. Someone let us know in the community post that it was Croatian. It was pretty hard to figure out based off of labels what was a Serbian brand, and what was just "manufactured" there, but came from elsewhere. We were in that grocery store forever, trying to Google as much as we could! Hahaha.

It only looks like licorice, but is in fact sweet and strong. One of the best candies in my humble opinion. You must try it next time you are in Serbia. @@wherearewe-yt

That actually sounds good. We drank honey beer in Poland before and we loved it, so eating the honey hearts with beer would probably have a similar taste 🙂
I found out that all honey and gingery things complement with beer. Dont know why but it works.
As for my favorite snacks, it is Smoki in all versions.
Chipsy is too salty for me. You have an traditional chips, it just say Chips on yellow and red bag, way better for me.
As for Plasma, only their product I like is plasma cubes with White chocolate.
A bit underestimated here are our candy bars, especially Pionir brand from Subotica
in Serbia we sometimes dip Plazma in a bowl of milk just like cereal and eat it like that, we call it cookie and milk.
Someone else mentioned that as well. We will have to try it next time!
Napolitanke... that's something I really do like... then, there's a Domaćica, chocolate layer covered cookies.
Napolitanke are quite popular in Austria as well! We've had them a few times. The cookies look good as well.

Good choice of sweets, but you should try buying sweets in slatka kuća (that's swisslion takovo house of sweets). They have also good choice of sweets, as well as snacks. Btw we as kids in early 90' had trauma because of cipiripi commercial.

Because face of cipiripi was scary, and we never knew when the commercial will be shown, you literally just watch tv and suddenly there is white brown screen and face of cipiripi pop up and say cipiripi, we as kids were crying haha and were afraid to watch tv in evening XD

We tried the Plazma later on with milk, coffee and tea. It's better that way for sure!
If you ever come back to Serbia. I recommend trying the choco jafacakes if they still exist then. They are my 3rd favorite jaffa product. Second being jaffa kolaci and first being the original ones. Another jaffa product i definitely recommend is jaffa donuts, especially the chocolate ones
We'll have to check them out when we return. We missed a lot of things the first time around!
Plazma mushed in warm milk or dipped in tea is my favorite dinner/breakfast.
It's not as good when you eat it without anything, it's INCREDIBLE in milk. You must try it.
Also, the bananica you tried is the only one I consider bad, and I've only really had the regular one which is really good, and the cheapest chocolate bar you can buy!
Btw you MUST try Najlepše Želje chocolate. Top tier.
I don't know if we will like regular Bananica, but we will try if we return to Serbia! Everyone always raves on about it. We will have to look out for that chocolate as well!

You pronounce Cipiripi as “tsipiripi” (the c in Serbian is always pronounced as a “ts” and the r is usually a hard-rolled r e.g. when you say “rrrr”)

wow Serbian sweets look actually pretty good, esp those potato snacks. I often think it'd be nice if there was a service to order say, the top 20 'hits' of nations around the world. I'd love to get a little $100 hamper full of goodies once a month from various random countries.
One of the best things about traveling is sampling all of the local snacks! There are a lot of snack box websites, but you only ever typically get snacks from one single country. Still exciting, but your idea sounds more fun.
these products can be found almost everywhere in Balkan stores in Canada America and Canada have a very large Balkan diaspora I always feel at home when I visit Canada
We actually had quite a few people from the Balkans, living in Canada, comment and watch out videos! We're back in Canada right now actually. I wonder if there's one here in my home city.
