- The 6-part IFC Original short-based comedy series PORTLANDIA, created, written by and starring Fred Armisen (SNL) and Carrie Brownstein (vocalist/guitarist, WILD FLAG, Sleater-Kinney), premieres on IFC Friday, January 21, 2011 at 10:30 PM ET/PT. Each episode's character-based shorts draw viewers into "Portlandia," the creators' dreamy and absurd rendering of Portland, Oregon.

It's where young people go to retire.
I never realized that that is why I moved here. Now I know.
"People were content to be unambitious, sleep til 11, just hang out with their friends..." As someone who grew up in the 90s I've never been able to summarize it so succinctly
I just realized I am a Portlandian today. I do all this...
"Portland is a city where young people go to retire" omg. spot on.
This aged like fine wine.
When Francis Fukuyama wrote The End of History in 1992 what most people don't understand was that he was talking specifically and only about Portland Oregon
Lol
portlandia is the greatest comedy show about the pacific northwest since almost live went off the air.
so glad you remember Almost Live
I like Portlandia, but the funniest part of this one is the [ HQ ] in the title.
When was 360p considered HQ? The 90's?
Yes, 1890s
In the 90s, 360p was headquarters?
@@burningpistols1467 hq= high quality ( video)
As someone who is originally from Portland and grew up in the surrounding area this spot on and it's still hilarious after all these years.
"Where young people go to retire."
It’s genuinely crazy this is 12 years old
In Portland you can put a bird on something and call it art! .....DEAD
lol this makes me want to legit move to portland
Big Dork well did you, Big Dork?
Or Olympia. Done both in the 90s.
The 90s goddamn sucked
Proud to be from Portland.
Im glad you still have the original version posted here.
The Dandy Warhols are a good example of this theory.
I miss Portland! Sure, I don't miss some of the self righteous hipsters or meth heads trying to steal my bike, but late night munchies at the food carts, Pedalpalooza, Santacon, hiking in the Gorge, and beer festivals are pretty kick ass!
"Tattoo ink never runs dry" from bear in thong tells more than needs to be told yet yearns to.
LOL, creativity lives! Thanks for keeping it light!
Oh god! Its funny because its true. I've been here for 19 years. I love Portland.
Brilliant! Can't wait to see this!
You're also a little San Francisco right now. LOL
I love this song!!
The clown at 2:38 is adorable
Does anyone know who she is?
Jim Rose circus sideshow.
That was an experience.
Remember when people thought Portland was cute😂
Living the dream here in Portland!
lol HQ
Jim Rose Circus!! Fred took it wayyyy back. 😋💙🖤✨
Seen the circus many times.
...now I want to move to portland.
So good!
That does it! I'm going to Portland to relive the gay 1990s.
fred telling carrie about portland seems backwards
If only it was that easy to get girls to stop wearing nose rings!! Lol instant upgrade~~~
i'll have to say this, aside from how dead on this video is, the sight of carrie brownstein in a velour sweatsuit and uggs is pretty damned funny.
"Come visit us again and again. This is a state of excitement. But for heaven's sake, don't come here to live." - Tom McCall
Just like any business person from anywhere in Seattle or the Pacific North West would say! Please bring us your business but don't come live here!!!!
240p is "HQ"
LOL!
90s forever! Stay slack.
I surmise what he’s positing.
@cxcmb
you just made me cry for my hometown.
Come over to Vancouver, Its nicer over hear
Fun fact about Subaru: They're famous for how well they've been able to target the lesbian demographic.
I rewatched this video trying to figure out what this has to do with anything, and I still don't see it.
@@dewilew2137, maybe this guy thinks everyone gets the same ad?
@@my0p1n10nst1nks ad? Never heard of it.
Girls with glasses weren't the "it" thing in the 90s though.
Probably not unicycle riding, either (I was around, but not in Portland).
It’s not specifically supposed to be the actual 90s, just the dream of the 90s… the Zeitgeist lives on in an evolved form, that’s the point of the song.
The mental attitude and ideas have lived on… that kinda deal.
Sort of like saying a Western Restaurant… you’re not actually eating rotten beans and horse meat and hoping you don’t catch an arrow in the knee on the way home, it’s just the style and attitude and the best parts taken and run with and allowed to evolve into something fun. None of the shitty racism and disease, just horrible music so many hipsters in cowboy boots.
In the 90s the Zeitgeist was about self expression, everyone trying so hard to be different that they all become the same, people rejecting consumerism and careerist lifestyles in favor of living life how you want to… that’s the idea of the 90s that this song is about.
I kinda hate the 90s but I love the show… lol
Lived in Portland for close to 2 decades. Don't miss it whatsoever
This is hilarious and true. I live here and LOVE it - the video and the city. I see those crazy double-decker bikes at least once a week. If I could sleep until 11am I would, and I'm getting another tribal tattoo next week, MFs!
A cab driver in Vegas told me this joke... "I just got back from Portland - I had to set my watch back 20 years." (Said he heard the joke 30 years ago!).
so in the 80's it still felt like the 60's in portland?
I'm sorely disappointed that they did not choose Austin, TX for the show. Its pretty much exactly like the stuff in the video. except hotter.
Not anymore :(
I want this played at my funeral.
I know they did a Dream of the 1890’s which rocked. I wish they did a third one about Portland, Maine…
This IS Portland,Maine…just 10 years later
I want to live in Portland! Oh wait, I already do!
we're in love with ourselves
I thought we (people f/PDX) were not that unique. But I lived in the Park Blocks, worked at a coffee shop, did clowning, had my picture taken with an organically grown chicken, my sister has a tattoo and wears glasses and lives in Hawthorn dis., I thought we were all normal. Now we are a novelty in the U.S. of A's eyes? What's normal?
Ah I should feel offended, but I dont lol
Still hilarious
Don't live in Portland. I reside in Gresham. I take the max up to Portland as often as I can. Dunno about this series though, not yet at least.
Carrie at 3:00 is under pierced by 2023 standards.
I didn't know any of this stuff was weird?
@cxcmb
I'm sure all of your issues will be addressed in future episodes.
It is a TV show after all.
@anonybelle I know, right? And you see people decked out like that everywhere in Portland. I don't understand that part of the vid at all.
Do any one know about a soundtrack album
of the portlandia tv show?
I used to respond to feces-play ads on craigslist from the bearded dude decked in leather and banana hammock some years ago. His shit was so healthy and easy to smear!
The dream is ali-i-ive
Still can be found in some areas of Austin
now the portlanders dream of the 30s
Do you remember the 90's, when 240p was HQ?
Funniest show ever!!!
la ins't that green.
I bet it's great for thrift store owners. I'm not even kidding when I say I want to move there
It's alive in Williamsburg too apparently.
Virginia? I was practically raised there and go to college in the area. I don't see it at all, not even amongst William and Mary students.
MisterCharlton Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The epicenter of Hipsterdom in NYC.
Tone Riggz Ah. Maybe you should have clarified. When most people hear Williamsburg they think Williamsburg, Virginia.
MisterCharlton Nowadays, I don't think so.
Tone Riggz I've never even heard of it until you mentioned it.
This kinda feels like tragedy now, not comedy.
I loved the dream of the 90's. Is it still alive anywhere on earth?
I agree. Its sort of sad, it's weird, around 2013-2016 comedy was having a good go at giving hope bringing us back to a happier time. The world has gone all weird now and this is now a longing want
@@georgearbuthnot727 the show comes off very cynical to me. A place where people weren't so burnt out making ends meet that they could have time to be themselves, and a millionaire like Carrie ridiculing it for that
@@oggjoshua I hear you, but for me the show doesn't have that super-cynical vibe.
They mock some stuff--for example, lol, they mock rich entitled white people who pretend they're not--but I think they love a lot of things about Portland & are equal parts loving & affectionate along with critical. They use humour & hyperbole to reveal both the positives & negatives of their own community, selves & friends.
@@georgearbuthnot727 I hope somewhere someone is having the fun we had in the 90's, enjoying the same sense of creativity, community, freedom.
The 90's wasn't "woke" though.
that place doesn't exist anymore....waaaahh!
lol!!!!!
Where is the 12 inch version?
Where young people go to retire omg fuk I’m dead
the funny part is the scene of them in la, they are walking down the street in portland.
ellicott city, md
How is it now?
Portland: where young people go to retire!!!😎✌️👍
now this is everywhere fake 90s.
@Daverbater THANK YOU... FUCK. I am getting tired of that shit too. You said it best.
Whether you love or hate Portland, you're all taking this shit way too seriously.
how is this HQ?
Brenton Bell It's 90's HQ
@Birbiglebug some may argue that Austin is losing its weirdness (Portland seems to be a bit as well, in all fairness...).
240P yay!!!
since when is 240p considered high quality?
2010
High Quality is referring to the content.
Highest Quality there is…
@AndreDeLay it's actually not. this isn't a musical comedy. if you've ever watched any episodes of Portlandia, it's actually hilarious.
That gave me an anxiety attack...but Im 65 so who cares
@danibean93 i live in philly which is equally unbearable but for different reasons
ТАК ВОТ ОНО ЧО, НИКИТА
)
Hey, I have a septum piercing and stretched earlobes and I've lived in Portland all my adult life. That's the only part of the video I disagree with.
I lived in PDX for 3 years. Hated it, now live in Portland, Maine and it's so much better. Like what the Oregon version wants to be but with less pretension.
@pimpinthebox5 If you're taking that video completely serious, then that's your own fault. Of course not all of Portland is like that, but some of it is. I'd rather believe in their vision where everyone seemed happy and getting along, than one with anger and vulgarity like you are representing.
wow , two adds to watch them sell suburus..i know there is NO free lunch but really 2 14 second shit geico spots for one chuckle>
Next stop: the rest of the world!
Not HQ
what does clowns have to do w/ 90s tho
Whats the name of the blond hot woman in glasses¿¿¿ plz somebody help me!!
This has not aged well.
Haaa
@jascrystalspike so hot
this is one of the most jewish shows on television
