I love the look of sheer disgust after he makes that metaphor about "baby chicks". Jeff and Kumail are my favorite guest stars. Always the same character yet always working a different job.
i agree, i LOVE Goldblum just the way he says "doily there" in the beginning...just so feken awesome..you're absolutely right a scene stealer like Jolie or DiCaprio Cumberbatch Cilian Murphy Tom Hardey or Denzel or Johansen Tatum Ryan Reynolds Chevy Chase Streepe Deniro Pacino Pitt Edward Nortan and Colin Farrell
fhhh that was nice of you to go all the way through and explain it for those that didn't understand the humor behind all of it. you have to be able to appreciate and understand this type of comedy, which is why I have a lot of friends/people i know that say its a boring show and/or not fuuny
swish007 I feel like i could accidentally fart in front of him and he'd just do his classic jurassic park laugh and proceed to tell me a story about somethin related to farts ♡
And Fred set it up when he said, "We could have something...We could" Jeff immediately picked it up when he interrupted "Yeah! Right?" while he mirrored the gesture again
1:23 I love how he rolls his own eyes at himself here like he's sick of these kinds of people but knows they're the easiest sale if he makes them feel good 😂
TheRubberStudiosASMR He's always like, suppressing yawns or burps or something. It's absolutely hysterical. Makes him so human. He does that on Conan too. Conan calls him out on it. It's on youtube somewhere if you want to check it out.
1:04 dive down seems like he had to burp after swallowing back some quick "reallys" just before. I get the idea someone on set had some marvelous macaroons that he munched on before he caught wind that filming has begun
+lindsey paulson i gotta imagine quite a bit. ive seen quite a few interviews with goldblum where he says "theres nothing wrong with that" like he does in this sketch
Most comedy is, surprisingly. Even movies. When you watch all the outtakes it's mostly just people riffing off one another. Like they have a rough outline of a certain scene or sketch and then just wing it from there and use the funniest take.
I love that I typed "It's the classic scale" in the search area and CZcams knew exactly what scene I wanted to see. I'm happy to see so many others that appreciate the classic scale in the comments.
Every thing Jeff does, his voice, his face, his movements... everything is so perfect. Every moment he's on camera is packed full of these little surprises! He's magic. Must be.
Goldblum is a literal comedic genius - his noises, the way he intentionally stutters to build anticipation, the way he says half his lines as if he thinks he might burp mid sentence…I could watch this man for hours on end. Hilarious! Oh and Fred and his wife are great too (The last sentence is a joke I know they’re not married. They are also hilarious though)
I still love how genuine this whole sketch felt. Also its so obvious when the guys start taking off and putting their glasses back on how they are close to laughing. I lvoe everything about this sketch.
I just f**king love this entire series. The skits for stores, entities and events for very specific tastes and minutiae (Doily Shoppe, Women and Women First, Allergy Pride, etc) are rife with comedic genius, as is the entire show.
Holy larwdy. I have watched this so many times and laughed my ass off every time. I don't want to sound like one of those pretentious art critics picking apart and "interpreting"but the subtext is just masterful. It all culminates at 1:23 and the expression he lets slip, showing he knows his own BS. That's how I see it anyhow.
The whole glasses skit got me rolling. The fact that Jeff (or Cheff for all you Tim and Eric fans..) Tosses the glasses down too was exceptionally priceless. As one gets older or care free? That's one of the many thing - as important and dear those glasses Are - you get careless with lol. Plus! I have a doily curtain that Constantly gets snagged on it's curtain rod. Extremely infuriating! :)
I used to go to the doily store with my grandmother. They were always busiest at holiday season. Of course that was before Walmart and Amazon cornered the doily market...
its the classic scale nothing wrong with that
It was like "I'm a musician too you mf, I see what you did there" Lmao
I love this. Wish that was a real store. I could always use some decent doilies for setting things on top of wood surfaces
Well there isnt🙃
That side eye he gives him as he says it lol.
Goldblum isn't even acting here. He's literally just being himself.
honestly
That's why I love him.
Does Goldblum ever "act" any differently? lol
😆
He only shows his true form when he's watching you poop.
Goldblum is the perfect Portlandia guest star.
Agreed! Love him!
He should be a regular tbh.
See this knot ? Whaaaaaaaat happened ? Mind = blown
It just works.
I know right!
I love the look of sheer disgust after he makes that metaphor about "baby chicks". Jeff and Kumail are my favorite guest stars. Always the same character yet always working a different job.
I'm trying to understand that part. Did he regret using that metaphor or what was wrong?
Yeah, I think it was a look of "Oh god, what the hell did I just say?" as if he's incredulous towards his own pun. So yeah, regret.
this is really funny
Jeff owns every scene he's in. I bet most of this was improvised.
i agree, i LOVE Goldblum just the way he says "doily there" in the beginning...just so feken awesome..you're absolutely right a scene stealer like Jolie or DiCaprio Cumberbatch Cilian Murphy Tom Hardey or Denzel or Johansen Tatum Ryan Reynolds Chevy Chase Streepe Deniro Pacino Pitt Edward Nortan and Colin Farrell
Fred singing the major scale with no technique or articulation, softly, bashfully, and apologetic is so funny
Nothing wrong with the classic scale
it gets me every time
Fred is a genius
And from middle c which everyone in the world can do.
Bashful secret karaoke man
beautiful, it's the classic scale. theres nothing wrong with that
Sally Morn what does what mean
Sally Morn
really nigga.
Sally Morn
really nigga.
people are funny. life is funny.
fhhh that was nice of you to go all the way through and explain it for those that didn't understand the humor behind all of it. you have to be able to appreciate and understand this type of comedy, which is why I have a lot of friends/people i know that say its a boring show and/or not fuuny
I love how affirming Jeff goldblum is lol. I get the feeling that he would never make you feel weird or stupid if you hung out with him
+swish007 He will always be the weirdest guy of you two ;D
swish007 I feel like i could accidentally fart in front of him and he'd just do his classic jurassic park laugh and proceed to tell me a story about somethin related to farts ♡
I get the complete opposite. I think he'd talk shit about you being your back
You clearly never saw him in Jurassic Park.
Really? Really?
"Beautiful. It's the classic scale. There's nothing wrong with that." I freaking love Jeff Goldblum.
And delivering that line with his kind smile and casual charm.
Yeah, that line, delivered as it is here. is the top of the comic arch for this sketch.
@@stevenslaughter8473 Yes very well put! Jeff G always seems to pull through with the biggest laugh in whatever sketch he's in.
1:30 That hilarious bit looks improvised to me. It seems like Jeff scratched his eye for real, and Fred went for it haha brilliant
You're right, they're both obviously trying hard not to crack up afterwards
Yes. You can tell they are starting to crack during this part.
Crack
And Fred set it up when he said, "We could have something...We could" Jeff immediately picked it up when he interrupted "Yeah! Right?" while he mirrored the gesture again
I took my glasses off and rubbed my eye during that part involuntarily
1:23 I love how he rolls his own eyes at himself here like he's sick of these kinds of people but knows they're the easiest sale if he makes them feel good 😂
It's genius. Perfect self-contempt in 2 seconds.
Nothing, absolutely nothing, could give me more joy than to find out that Jeff Goldblum actually ran a doily shop.
This is a fairly bland comment, but I feel bad that no one has left a reply, so here I am.

This is a fairly bland comment, but I feel bad that no one has left a reply, so here I am.
The way Fred stumbles over his words is an art form in itself.
Jeff Goldblum is a national treasure
+Brandon Bader National Treasure is a national treasure!
+351cleavland No it's not.
John G. Schmidt Yeah, it is. it says so in the title!!! : D
+Brandon Bader Jeff Goldblum is my co-pilot.
+Trump is Love, Trump is Life. Trump sucks, vote Bernie
"Really?... Really?"
Goldblum's high pitched "really?"... Lost it 🤣
I love how Jeff's voice dives down.
Sometimes I wonder how much of this is improvised
+lindsey paulson i gotta imagine quite a bit. ive seen quite a few interviews with goldblum where he says "theres nothing wrong with that" like he does in this sketch

I always thought the part wear fred and goldblum are removing and replacing their glasses was improv. You can see goldblum crack the faintest smile😂
The glasses thing def was...goldblum was gonna laugh for a second there...
The whole thing
I love that I typed "It's the classic scale" in the search area and CZcams knew exactly what scene I wanted to see. I'm happy to see so many others that appreciate the classic scale in the comments.
Looks like they were cracking up during the whole glasses off/glasses on thing and could barely hold it together for one take.
Every thing Jeff does, his voice, his face, his movements... everything is so perfect. Every moment he's on camera is packed full of these little surprises! He's magic. Must be.
its sickening how good goldblums delivery is..a true master
Goldblum is a literal comedic genius - his noises, the way he intentionally stutters to build anticipation, the way he says half his lines as if he thinks he might burp mid sentence…I could watch this man for hours on end. Hilarious! Oh and Fred and his wife are great too
(The last sentence is a joke I know they’re not married. They are also hilarious though)
"It's the classic scale, there's nothing wrong with that"
haha Jeff's face when Fred starts singing is funny he's so fascinated
They're holding back so much laughter while rubbing their eyes.. I hope Goldblum is in this new season.
I love Fred's face during the whole "We'll take one" part and that little smile. It's so freaking funny to me.
Never paid this show any attention until it started popping up in my CZcams homepage. These skits are fantastic.
My adult kids show me Portlandia few years ago! I can say I am almost addicted now! Pure brilliance.
There's something about Peter and Nance clearly just living by themselves in that huge-ass house that's fucking hilarious
the look of disgust at 1:24 is perfect
wow that eye rubbing is contagious
Jeff is so great. His look of annoyance at his own sales pitch is brilliant.
the shy humility as he sings every note on the that scale
W-w-what what WWWhat-...............what're your summer hours?
/(o).(o)/
-
It's jimmy glick
Every Jeff Golblum facial expression in this is perfect.
Jeff Goldblum's reactions and looks are fucking gold lmaoo
that exasperated expression at 1:23 haha
I still love how genuine this whole sketch felt. Also its so obvious when the guys start taking off and putting their glasses back on how they are close to laughing. I lvoe everything about this sketch.
"You were so loud, boy he's got a great set of pipes. What did you say?" ... "Do you sing?"
Imagine leaving with two big bags of nothing but doilies and he asks about summer hours as if they will need to run in to buy more.
Portlandia is an onslaught of first-rate throwaway lines.
I really want to know how much they cost!!!! 🤪
I'm pretty sure Jeff Goldblum's career was always just leading up to this point
Carrie's always on the verge of losing it when Jeff Goldblum is in the scene.
I love how Jeff Goldblum’s character has a doily as a pocket square.
Beautiful. That’s the classic scale. Nothing wrong with that.
"Grape Fruit Juice!" "Oh you were so loud..." ROTFL
"Do you sing ?" 😂
He should really be in every season from here on out, each time running a different shop. It's perfection!
I have watched this episode more times than any other. It shows the full range of Peter and Nance. Jeff just blends in perfectly like always.
Really? Really?
1:04 fred trying not to laugh at goldblum's yawn-talking?
Good eye, yep! 😅
It's amazing that's a real thing, what I'm yawning in mid-sentence here?!?
I thought it was talking through a belch like older men are want to do.
LOL, the classic scale!
Bloody hell that was funny. The glasses bit, the scale - gold
This show is so perfect
This is one of my favorite Portlandia bits of all time
Mad respect to the set designer that currated that massive amount of classic crochet doilies for the show!
Don´t know why but I absolutely love this sketch!😂 How can I have missed this show!?
To me this is the funniest 3 minutes of television ive ever seen
Love the doily pocket square. 😂
The glasses scene made them almost break character, you can see them both hiding a smirk, I love It!
That was great ,they could barely hold it in😂
Jeff Goldblum + Portlandia = genius
There's just so much to love about this skit
The disgust in himself for the bird analogy is so great
the glasses bit gets me every time 😂😂😂
Jeff's face at 1:24 gets me every time
I have no idea how many times I’ve watched this.
I'm wearing my glasses. When they kept taking theirs off I did to without thinking about it lol.
I love the doily on the shirt pocket and the bit with the glasses was hilarious! The whole thing is great! 😄❤️
omg, when she's rubbing his shoulder during the "classic scales" . pure genius 2:23
Perfect choice for a doily salesman! I feel he was born to play that part..
Jeff Goldblum is hilarious! Search for 'Portlandia pull out king'. Classic!
The classic scale. Nothing wrong with that. Hilarious, even more so that old Jeff is a hell of a piano player.
Too funny! "It's the classic scale" :)
Im ashamed to say I've seen this sketch 100 times and I just noticed the half doily below the pocket on his shirt. Brilliant.
The improvisation is AWESOME 💯💯💯
what the heck did I stumble upon?!?! This is great....what IS this show? I mean I'll watch anything Jeff Goldblum's in
Kristi B he's only in it about three times in different episodes. The show is called Portlandia
I am in love with Goldblum! 💕
I just f**king love this entire series. The skits for stores, entities and events for very specific tastes and minutiae (Doily Shoppe, Women and Women First, Allergy Pride, etc) are rife with comedic genius, as is the entire show.
hit 4 for "really?" :)
Love this show !
My goal for 2020 is to bring out my inner Goldblum and be this charming and warm to everyone - including my enemies.
i cant stop wiping my eye now.
The coolest guy in Hollywood. I love how he and Fred riff off each other with the glasses bit and ample use of Hanna-Barbera sound effects.
Wouldn't it be funnier without the sound effects?
I guarantee this was unscripted, this is how Jeff talks to everyone and it's always gold
The improvisation is fantastic.
The fluted edges on the 32' Westerford are what gives it its character.
Jeff Goldblum burping mid sentence might be one of the funniest things I have ever witnessed
Holy larwdy. I have watched this so many times and laughed my ass off every time. Gotta say, I don't usually find portlandia skits too funny, but this is just the right kind of bizzare
This is how I feel going to a wedding planner.
1:20 absolutely killed me, my god that was profoundly satisfying
Howard Beale we’re all little baby chicks pecking our way out of our shells
the look at 1:20 is my favorite thing in the whole series
Fred locks up at 2:43!
Singing the scale always gets me
I used to go to the doily store with my grandmother. They were always busiest at holiday season. Of course that was before Walmart and Amazon cornered the doily market...
It's the classic Jeff Goldblum. There's nothing wrong with that.
Is this improv acting or was this scripted? The awkwardness feels so goddamn natural it brings me to tears
This show is amazing
Them trying not to laugh at the impromptu eye rubbing got me 😭😭
I love, love, love Jeff Goldblum.
If this place really existed I'd be hanging out there every day just to observe Goldblum
"we tailor the doileys to your needs" lololol
