For those wondering, both DS Peach Gardens and Daisy Circuit have Ultra Shortcuts now. Peach Gardens was broken not long after this video was published, and Daisy Circuit was broken 2-3 weeks ago. I’d recommend checking them out, they’re both insane!

What the records without the shortcuts.
This video was great. Growing up I was fortunate enough to have family focused parents, who made "game night" a priority every week/every other week. After we got our wii (which came with MK) we only picked Mario Kart to play for months. We played it so much and made so many memories. It got to the point that my mom and dad would practice together in DUOs on weekends when my sister and I were out with our friends. I used these ultra shortcuts on only a few maps to frequently ensure I would always come out on top. Such good times. Thanks for the video, it brought back a lot of great memories.
By the end of this video, I was just smiling like an idiot. You are a great story teller, and clearly very passionate about everything you make videos about. I love learning about the speed running community, keep up the good work!

Well, I arrived at this late but I am the Jaden mentioned in the video. Finding the OOB spot was a very surreal experience for me. I almost did not bother sharing my discovery at all, figuring it was already known and debunked, so I am very grateful that I did. If you want to see a piece of MKW history I still have the old rMR theory video up on my channel. I have mostly moved on from theorizing glitches and focus on making custom tracks now, a whole other side of the Mario Kart Wii community I highly recommend checking out. It is insane to think it has been over two years since the original ultra shortcut video (which inspired me to look into rMR in the first place), and how much has happened since then. I can't wait to see what else this community does next!

I love how speedruners when they see "humanly impossible" they basically say "no" and discover an insane way to turn it possible
You only say that because you only pay attention when it actually happens. You don't bother to remember the un countable amount of times someone has said "that's impossible" and it actually was.
Reminder that speedrunners see a TAS and go "Theoratically only machine input possible? Challenge accepted."
@@reio1951 first off all, your comment was unnecessary, it was a joke, and most of the big ones "humanly impossible" were solved, the other impossible ones aren't that big, or they don't make a big difference in players runs, so they don't even try it

Obviously you're gonna see a lot of "impossible things made possible" when you watch a channel like summoning salt who makes videos centred around those kind of events. Also people don't call them impossible unless it is significant. Such as when Mario Oddysey sub 1 hour was impossible. Which it was with the strats at that time.

Found your docs, and have been binge watching them all. You definitely have a talent for documentary style videos. I’ve never really been into speed running, though I’ve watched a few over the years. However, these videos I found totally intriguing, and interesting. Keep doing what you’re doing. You could do docs on just about anything, and I believe it’d be successful. Great content, and the passion behind these videos definitely shines through. Take care!

I’d love to see logs of developer discussing ways to abuse the game, only to write them off due to them being lazy.
Having worked with software devs. It's not usually laziness, it's lack of time or the exec team breathing down their neck to push something out ir reassigning them to a new task when they're partway through polishing the details of the previous one.

@@thetechnovoid quite often a bug will be known about but because it's such an edge case to trigger it, it will be a really low priority to fix it and then it never gets fixed because there's more important things to do with the limited time available

Summoning Salt is one of the few youtubers that can actually make you emotionally invested into the story that he presents to you, it starts off with the discovery of the methods to save time, then eventually becomes focused on the people trying to get world records. In the end while the times are impressive, it's all about the journey the people went through to get them. Truly beautiful stuff
