  • It's officially spring, so it's time to get the Grasshopper 721D out of storage and ready for the mowing season. Grasshopper makes some of the best zero turn lawn mowers on the market. If you aren't familiar with the Grasshopper brand, you should look into them and consider one as your next mower. You won't be disappointed!

I've had three Diesel Grasshopper mowers over the last 20 years. Currently running a 725DT6. Wouldn't want anything else ! Needless to say like everything, they are expensive but well worth it. The quality and ease of the out front deck is second to none !

I've ran a grasshopper 725 with a liquid cooled gas Kubota engine for 22 years now. The Kubota engine is bullit proof. I've mowed 4 acres per week all thihs time with no major problems. A good way to check the overall health of the Kubota engine is to attempt to start it cold with no throtle and no choke at all. If it starts right up, you have a good engine with great compression.

I bought the first Grasshopper that ever came in to Wilkes County, North Carolina. The first owner bought it to mow her apple orchard but the earlier grasshoppers were terrible on hills and would just slide and spin. She brought it back to the tractor dealership. Sometime the next week or so I walked in looking for a used mower and they tried to sell me the Grasshopper but I told them I didn't want it. The owner, a friend, knew the majority of my property was flat bottom land told me he was sending it over to the house and for me to use it a month or so. If I didn't like it let him know and he would come and get it and if I did come back over and we would work out a deal. That was in the spring of 1991 the mower is an 1822K. Still works

Mine is the Woods Mow'n Machine version of Grasshopper. (Wasn't Woods a spin-off of the Grasshopper Co?).
It's a 1998 and I bought it new. Kubota 21 hp diesel still starts and runs like new. Never mowed commercially; only use it to mow my couple acres. Solid machine. In 25 years, only replaced the belts and idler pulley's on the deck. That's it! Everything else was normal fluids and filters maintenance.
Only thing I wish it had was a good suspension seat. I did switch to a "Track" suspension seat years ago, but at my age, I'd still like a softer ride.
Enjoyed you video. Glad you got the glow plug problem fixed.

I have an 02 718 with a 18hp B&S Vanguard. Approaching 9,000 hours, but on its second engine. As for the mower, only replaced one deck spindle, two idler pulleys, ignition switch, on third set of tires, of course multiple belts, and the seat. Should be known that i heavily abuse it. Ex. Dragging or pulling trees, stuck vehicles, boats, etc. Use the deck for hauling 12ft tree logs, 3 at a time. Piled landscaping boulders on it. Drop the deck all the way to use as a grader too. I am religious with maintenance though. Grasshopper's secret ...8 & 9 gauge steel and zirc fittings everywhere!

I would never ever buy anything Grasshopper even thou my last machine before this one was great. They don’t stand behind their product and are very poor on supporting it. I got lied to from the start by another dealer who closed his doors leaving me with no warranty and a machine that never worked right. Finally finding another dealer an hour away he took on the problems fixing most but couldn’t fix the design problem which chewed up belts. Grasshopper dragging their feet left me without a mower still and it’s been a month. I use mine for landscaping and I think it’s hilarious how so many companies don’t know about grasshopper but they’re just so good although I must say the coronavirus is being far overblown but as a Christian I believe that we are supposed to obey our government unless it goes against our beliefs. God bless praise Jesus stay safe everyone praying for y’all. #JESUSLIVES! Oh and I believe that the last two numbers on the serial number or is it model number is the year

Indy Farm Life Yeah I use about a 16 foot trailer so I can fit the grasshopper mower and then a normal mid mount zero turn but I guess I could see why that would be but yeah you stay safe out there too

@@IndyFarmLife no prob I just started working at a small engine repair shop 3 weeks ago. And we had a grass hopper come in for a service. As soon as I saw it I was like what is that. So looking for more info is what made me come across your video. I want one for sure

Indy Farm Life Thank you. I just purchased a 15 Cub Cadet Z Force SZ off FB market place. I would rather of found a front deck GH. The Cub Cadet handles my hills in the yard and does a decent job.

The Best Zero Turn Lawn Mower You Can Buy - THAT'S A BIG STATEMENT, I assume you tried a lot of equipment to qualify it, although I dont see the videos. I use three dixie choppers, we got a grasshopper 729 two weeks ago, it's a nice mower, but hardly THE BEST ZERO TURN you can own. I found it lacking in numerous areas and firstly, it is a GET STUCK MACHINE, and when it gets stuck, it is STUCK, laying on frame and hard to pull out without fear of damaging it. Not to mention its long length and rear hanging out there waiting to take out a fence or damage a car or structure. I find is is hardly the best zero turn mower, we got it mainly to use the front mounted mower to trim creeks ponds etc, but that didnt work out at all, the mower does not SUSPEND and instead floats down with the ground threatening to pull you in, and it is mowing dirt by then. scalping. Its a nice NICHE mower, but it does not compare to a dixie chopper for speed safety and especially ability to cut hills, the 729 just spins and tears up grass trying to mow our hills that the DC has been mowing for years.

You need to get out more the Grasshopper is a very poor machine, my new 900D has been in the shop over a month waiting on parts. I would never ever buy another. Had a old 725D and it was bulletproof, great machine, the 900 is nothing but a headache.
Ok now I get it you don’t mind poor built equipment running John Deere, yes the explains the love of poor built Grasshopper.

My Hopper is a 2002 721D. It's of the bulletproof variety you speak of. When I level up, I'm getting a 930d as opposed to a 900d. I don't like Tier IV. As for the JD, I have nothing but great things to say. My 4052R has been an absolute beast of a machine for me.
