  • This channel is about my everyday life as a property owner and all the things I do that go along with owning property.
    My new mower Grasshopper 729 with Kubota 29 hp gas motor. I wanted gas instead of diesel. I went with gas in my truck this time and mower because of all the smog crap they put on them is chocking the power out of a diesel.
    Filmed with GoPro 11 black and using DJI wireless mic.

    Integrity, that is why you took your mower to power wash it. I love how much you and I think alike. I also am having knee issues from riding a hard wheeled sulky for a few years... Glad I stopped when I did.

    If you have any problems with traction, I learned a trick to help out with that when I was selling Grasshopper mowers. Take your fenders off. There are horizontal springs on both sides. If you loosen the jam nut & run the spring all the way to the rear, you'll get MUCH BETTER traction. Also, Idk of another mower manufacturer that does it but you can start a Grasshopper without the brake on & you do not have to be seated. It saves time if you mowers next to a road & have to get off of the mower repeatedly.

    I have had a grasshopper mid mount diesel since 2009 and I am very pleased with it. 1100 hours and counting. Only battery life is short. Take a hot battery for cranking them

    I've always wondered if it had double wheels like the ventrac how it would do. I prefer the front mount deck grasshopper because if the hills to steep I can always push the deck up the hill and cut it . The mid mounts you can't. I also prefer a 52 or 61 deck wouldn't have a 72 . Those are made for flat ground.

    If you add ballast to the drive tires so they will stick and have weight you’ll see it hold a lot better I would either put beet juice or the liquid they use for RV water that way in the winter time it won’t freeze but the beet juice works well. Plus it’ll give you a lot better rideand you can run a little bit higher pressure on the tires with the beat juice in them and it will plant them tires. They won’t slide on you, Grace Grace, and peace.

    Appreciate your footage, nice job! Would you say it’s not really a ‘finishing’ mower? Looks like the perfect mower for larger fields (other than the colors :) ) . But not sure it would work for a fine cut. Am I wrong?

  • @spencerforsberg4594
    @spencerforsberg4594 Před rokem +1

    12:25. It’s because there’s a lot of weight behind the drive tires that’s pulling the back half of the unit downhill.. that’s why it’s going sideways, it also why it’s important to keep the recommended tire pressure especially on the drive tires.

      probably what it is for sure. might need to adjust the steering as well. The dealership I got mine from had the steering way off and I had to adjust it myself.

    Id like to see that grasshopper with tweel tires on it, like you had on the Feriss. I think it would hold better imo

    • @DavidFDay
      @DavidFDay  Před 2 měsíci

      I have mixed emotions since I had them, after awhile I said they wasn’t worth what they cost. The Ferris actually held better with the factory tires. When I traded it in the sales guy said he wouldn’t have given me as much in trade if I hadn’t had the factory tires. He said it’s getting to where the commercial mowers don’t care for them as much if their mowing hills.

      I like the grass hopper. I like the Kubota tractor. Ive has several kubotas over the years and have had no problems. Only the on the Grand L cab is the rubber that seals off the 4+4 lever has broke off and i have to keep a rag over that area because you can see the ground through that area.

    Hi David, I wonder if the dealer has an option for locks on the rear tires? I’ve heard of rear swivel lockers so the slope could be a little bit more stable / straighter. Ideally you could engage / disengage as needed from the seat.I would ask your grasshopper dealer. Thank you for the video. I would love to trade in my Ferris 3zx 52” stander for a grasshopper out front. Would want a 48 or 52, not sure if that is possible..

    how cut quality vs ferris and speed of mowing on both? both 61.

    • @DavidFDay
      @DavidFDay  Před 4 měsíci

      Ferris was probably faster, Ferris probably cut a little better but the biggest difference is on hills. The Ferris was like a billy goat. Man it would go up a hill or hold on it sideways, it just came down to age and knee surgery. I just couldn’t stand anymore. I’ve had knee replacement in oct 23 and standing and the jarring I can take anymore. Thanks for commenting.

      What he said. If it was turned around you wouldnt notice it much . But unlike your other mower its pretty long. I used them on steep stuff and never had issues it just taks some getting use to. I think there one of the best mowers and have ran alot of them including a grasshopper built woods! Run a scag now but going to get me one soon!

    If you hace issues judging the turn radius on the mower to miss an object, if the front-end misses it, so will the back end. The operator sits in the middle of a zero turn.

  • @kevinelrod323
    @kevinelrod323 Před 10 měsíci

    Also, they have ⅛" metal deck height adjustment that helps & don't wear out like the plastic ones do. You can get a high mow kit that'll allow you to mow to 5½"
