  • We attempt to de-winterize our boat that we winterized ourselves last fall. In order to reduce the size of the hole in the water we throw money into with our cheap boat, we winterized the boat ourselves. Did we do it right? Or, did we screw it up and destroy our Johnson 115 HP two stroke outboard?
We purchased this 1983 MonArk McFast VSF-16 Fish & Ski boat super cheap, and in order to keep the ownership cheap, we have been working on it ourselves. The boat dealer wanted $350 to winterize a two stroke outboard powered boat. We thought that was outrageous, so we made the attempt ourselves.
In this video we see if we winterized the boat correctly. We de-winterize, or Un-winterize, or summerize, or whatever it is called prepping it to use this summer.

Do you have another process or technique for getting your boat ready summer? Let me know.

I have a 2003 Yamaha OX66 on a Ranger 185vs. I store it with a half tank 20 gallons of super unleaded 93 octane non ethanol and a whole can of SeaFoam Marine. In the spring when our lakes come back up where you can get out on the water I just fill it up and run the motor. I’ve done every outboard I’ve ever owned the same way. I’ve never had any issues getting them to run. Every 100 hours I’ll take it in for a full service. Treat them good and they will treat you good. Those are really good outboards I’ve own 8 of them in the last 40 years.

That leaver on top of your control box is your idle advance. It doesn’t pump fuel into the motor. Pushing in the key after you turn the key is how you choke it. And let it all the way down when you start it. And never store it tilted up if you live in a cold climate you will crack the gear housing. they are
Great motors when they are tuned right. The bad part is not many marine shops will work on them and the don’t make many parts for them anymore. I’ve had to find parts motors for electrical parts staters coil pack ie. Good luck with it. The water pump looks ok , but if it’s a new to you motor have it replaced. And the lower unit gear oil.

I watched last year. And you ram hose water to engines. I thought you add antifreeze to water hose. And should take 1/2 hour.? Lol😮

I have before. But, most pros don't as long as you put the engine as vertical as possible it will drain all the water of the engine

    Can't kill those old outboards

Leave water in the lower unit, it freezes, cracks the housing, or bends the prop shaft.

@@RebeldryversGarage there's actually not supposed to be any water in the lower unit oil at all. I have never had any water come out of mine at all, when changing the lower unit oil.
