I can't believe it, a video that clearly and quickly explains all steps involved without a bunch of non-sense! Great video.

You could also use the hex on the camshaft.

Nice video. Direct and to the point. I used it to set my timing and tension. Thanks

that camshaft on the left with vvt...to replace the front side seal of it do you just take out those 4 bolts bolts? then the main sprocket bolt in the middle?

  • @narcissistinjurygiver2932

what about setting the crank at the tension mark and then setting tightening the bolt to the tensionor ?

So I changed my timing belt and now my car seems to buck around 50 mph could I have mis aligned the timing marks or may it be one tooth off that will mess with this? I also took off the throttle body to clean the carbon and swapped my ignition coils and wire set. Idle feels good other than the bucking at highway speeds

Can a bad phaser cause the belt to jump a tooth?

i had a p0012 code come up after a timing belt change on my miata. Would this be because the timing belt was not tensioned right?

If you put the lower timing cover on, where would the timing marks on the balancer line up with the timing tab on the cover?
    Everyone leaves this part out.

The lower timing cover does not have an external mark on the cover to set timing unfortunately. With the lower cover on You actually have to look down in-between the lower cover and the motor. Just under the water pump nose, using the timing gear mark against the oil pump mark for reference. Its a little tricky, but definitely doable. Done it many times when replacing cams seals in the car. That is really the only way to do it with the lower cover and crank pulley on. You can set timing with no covers on, then simply remove the crank pulley and then insall the covers. As long as the tension on the timing belt it tight and the key way is good it will keep timing without the crank pulley bolted on. As you see at the end of our video, the timing is set, and all we would have to do in unbolt the crank pulley, install the covers, and reinstall the crank pulley. Motor ready to go! Hopes this helped answer your question, thank you!

The timing tab on the cover is for spark, not valve timing. You have to remove it

Is the vvt gear supposed to have oil inside after taking the metal plate off

are these vvt engines interference or not ?

    • @gripnslipgarage1844

Thanks for your comment! Vvt motors are non-interference. All Miata motors from 1990-2005 are non-interference motors. Not sure about the later ones though.

      Not interference
