  • The job started as a valve cover gasket leak repair and progressed to a timing belt change and a whole lot of other components!

    Thank you!!!
I had the same exact problem and I am a certified BMW Tech and I finally figured it out by watching your video. LOL
Every car has a certain way to assemble. I was using the timing belt book that I had but nothing regarding the installation of the crank plate!!
One thing I didn't know the plate was part of the sensor reading to meet the cam reading... Wait till you figure out how to do re rear brakes, its another story for that one.LOL

I've watched this many times doing the same process on my mx5. Freaking lifesaver, mate.

doesnt have to be this hard. simply cut old belt in half length wise leaving inner half on. then install new belt halfway where outer half of old belt was. then clip inner half of old belt and remove. then slide new belt the rest of the way onto pulleys. simple.

Quick question.....did you take the entire front of the engine back apart to reverse the plate or just loosen the harmonic balancer and flip it around?

As I recall just the balancer and maybe some other odds and ends(?) It was a pretty quick fix with an immediate result. Good luck.

Where did you put the pin on the cam shaft gears?

It's been too long ago to answer your question with any accuracy. Sorry about that but I can't say for sure.

Does a 1991 have that same plate?

If your talking about the timing plate it does. My 91 isn't labed or if it is it's so old I can't see it, but the timing lines on the plate should be the exact same and you just line them up on there.
