He’s the closest plus in tune with Steve, Soto was out on some notes, there is another guy who did Journey songs his name is Matt Black he was incredible live, look him up!
When Steve Perry mentioned and acknowledged Arnel Pineda in his Hall Of Fame speech, to me that’s the passing of the torch in my opinion. He gave Arnel full love and respect for saving Journey and continue the legacy.
Let's not forget about Kevin Chalfant who filled in for Steve Perry for a while in 1993. He is from Streator Illinois 30 minutes from me! He still has his pipes and still can sing all the old Journey tunes! He opened for guys like Peter Frampton. He also sang for The Storm band (with Steve Smith on drums) for years with a main hit "Karate Tiger" or "Hold On to the Vision" which was a movie title track fo Blood Dragon. He also did work with Bryan Adams, Neal Schon and others! In 2003 he toured as the lead singer of The Alan Parsons Live Project. He also produced many solo albums. Some pretty impressive stuff! @@h-deck Yes, I'm well aware, and actually, Steve himself has spoken of his own current abilities in much the same way. Still, I had to say something about those past tense references. You had me thinking I missed some MAJOR news, man! 🤣

Arnel is the closest thing to Steve Perry. He has a very high quality voice with sustain. No one can replace Steve Perry but, Arnel certainly fulfills the qualities that every Journey fan expects when they see the band in concert.

Arnel is not only the closest to Perry in terms of vocal range and stage presence, he’s also the second longest tenured singer. Can’t believe it’s been 16 years since he joined the band, and he’s still in the lineup!
And the fact that he's a Filipino man with an accent and had to learn how to sound like Steve says everything .Arnel crafted his voice and does a fine job at keeping JOURNEY alive
Arnel is a formidable vocalist, no doubt whatsoever. But there is a magic that is unparalleled about the tone of Perry's voice that sounds the way a summer breeze feels. And, there are innately unique inflections in his delivery that are not mechanical or rigid. They are, in fact, purely organic and fluid like a comforting spoonful of warm honey. They are qualities in his voice that cannot be taught or learned. They are an intrinsic part of Steve's vocal physiology and simply irreplicable.
@@KaraokePubmain Its because Steve doesnt just have a great and powerful voice, he is a studied and accomplished vocalist. He connect everything, transitions perfectly between notes, and his range is insane. Arnel really isnt close in comparison. But really, who is close to Steve? Maybe Freddie Mercury and a a couple others in history? Steve's vocal ability is up there with accomplished Opera singers.
There are not enough words to describe Steve Perry's voice. Perfect comes to mind. It would be the most humbling experience and utmost privilege to hear him sing.
I had the privilege of seeing and experiencing Steve with Journey on the Faithfully tour when they came to San Antonio. I will NEVER forget that experience. But thanks go to Arnel for doing an amazing job at keeping the songs alive and very close to what we expect to hear from any Journey song.
Arnel is someone you can really admire! He’s paid tribute to Steve’s greatness with Journey and has been the glue that holds the band together since Steve left ! 🤷🏻♂️
There is no question who is the best. There is Steve Perry, whose sound and creativity spawned these masterpieces, and there are others that try to mimic him and copy his work. Steve is the champ, hands down.

For me Steve Perry is the best front man of journey, yes there are others singer of journey since perry left but no one can sing like Steve, he sing with emotion and the voice love him so much

All four are fantastic vocalists, but there's something magical about the tone in Steve Perry and Arnel Pineda's voices. They both just wrap you up in awe with their silky smooth voices.
Agree, I saw Journey with Arnel in 2009 and it was great. My heart goes out to Arnel for doing his best to fill unfillable shoes, and all the flak he's put up with. He's great and a wonderful replacement. Everyone should give him the respect he deserves.
In my opinion Steve Augeri sounds the closest in this video but I have found an awesome young man on CZcams DAN VASE HE IS AMAZING SINGING JOURNEY SONG'S AND HE CAN SING JUST ABOUT ANYTHING HE WANTS.
Arnel very charismatic performer not just singing and standing. He loves audience interaction thats makes him unique plus with his soulful, powerful voice
Those who think Arnel or the other replacement singers sound as good as Steve Perry haven't listened to any of his albums before 1982. His voice was untouchable.
Clearly, you haven't listened to Arnel lately...his wife reached out to Celine D for help stating Arnel was struggling...and she recommended some tea mix for him...Arnel is sweet but he wasn't ever what Steve was...and now his steak is cooked too.@@orchidmalevolence9726
Not necessarily with this song, but Deen Castronovo should be considered, because there are videos of him singing others like "Still They Ride" and "Open Arms." And when Neal put Journey Through Time together a few years ago, Deen sang lead the whole time and nailed it.
No need to compare, l love all the vocalists, and I love Journey. Come on guys, just enjoy. It's the music, the good memories of it. Just be thankful the journey of this band is forever, still alive and give us amazing performance.
There is only "one" ☝️ Steve Perry!! But I feel bad about the negative rap that Arnel gets from many people. It's clear that Augeri and Soto struggle on the high notes that Arnel hits with ease. To many of his critics, it's hard to accept the fact that although appearance doesn't match the sound that comes out of his mouth - he is still the best journey vocalist after Steve. Many would prefer to pretend to be tone deaf. They'd prefer to see a struggling average white vocalist than to accept a pitch perfect sound coming out of a little asian singer...
Let's say end this journey band so no more criticism comparing Steve perry to Arnel pinada. Steve I guess left or didn't want to play so journey the band wants to continue playing, performing so they did with different front men's and ended u with Arnel that now is and still the front man of journey..
They hate them coz they said They are not sounds like Perry but when they Discovered Arnel who sounds almost Perry ... Perry fans still angry coz they said He is just a copycat of Perry ... But in reality Arnel almost sounds like the many Singer everytime He sang other song .

Journey's songs are so good that most who sing them make them sound good. When Steve sings them, we all get goosebumps and it takes us back. Arnel is close but just not the same. Younger people who don't have the memories associated with Journey may not agree.
I still have every single Journey Album and one from Japan. I have the Atari video game I slept out on the sidewall In Phoenix to get tickets/ went two nights in a row that time.

Each singer is unique. All I can say is , Arnel has saved the band as he is extra talented. Arnel has an amazing voice and can hit high notes with ease. Kudos Arnel!
Arnel can't sing "Still They Ride" or "Mother, Father". He is missing the high, melodic register to truly carry most of the songs. He goes "husky" a lot. By that, it means he opens his throat and drops the register and tonal quality. He's good, no doubt; just not quite enough to truly replace SP.

1. Steve Perry 2. Arnel Pineda 3. Steve Augeri 4. Jeff Scott Soto Perry knew how to pull emotion from every word. He sang each word as if they were the most important.
Augeri voice too thin , straining way too hard Jeff Scott: Good loud voice but too rock starish maybe early Journey Arnel : better, good pipes but lacks the softness of Steve
Journey is just not Journey without Steve Perry. I grew up with Steve, listened loved this band and Steve's outstanding vocals. Arnel is definitely second and fantastic. But Steve is Journey to me and always will be....

After Steve Perry, Arnel crushes it. He's got the sound and the spirit and you can tell that he cares. We saw them a few years ago and they put on a great show with Arnel.
There is only one Steve Perry, and these will always be HIS songs. While the other guys did a voice copy, no-one can ever do that successfully. Steve Perry's voice and stage presence are something he brought to Journey, and unfortunately for Journey and their fans, he took everything he brought to the band with him when he left. Thankfully we still have access to the original singer and his incredible talent on their early albums. That music is just as amazing to listen to today.
@@vraylesabile5212 WTF is it with the race card? Just because people like the original singer more than the current one, doesn't make them racist. There was nothing racist said about AP. You people jump to retarded conclusions when you hear something you don't like or agree with. And yes SP is better then AP. There is a reason why SP is called "The Voice". Take your race card and shove it back in your wallet.. Or better yet just destroy it. Life would be much better for everyone.
Without Steve Perry Journey would never have become the band that they did. Arnel is great no doubt, but Steve will forever be the voice of Journey, especially for us from the 80s.

Steve Perry set the standard, no doubt. I was actually surprised to hear how good Steve Augeri and Jeff Scott Soto sounded, even though I saw JSS front Journey many years ago. What blew me away, though, was Arnel. That dude has some pipes! Wow.

If you've ever seen Steve Perry sing in person, you would never forget it. Never. I was completely blown away by how much of himself he put into his performance and how absolutely incredible his voice sounded. When he credited Pineda for his contribution to Journey at the Hall of Fame induction, he showed pure class. When I saw Journey back in the 70's. I had some of the best concert seats I'd ever had and can still actually hear him singing if I close my eyes. Magical.
I have had the pleasure of seeing Arnel perform in real life an I swear he is the best one. Sounds almost exactly like Steve. Every song he sung I had chills. Love him❤

The other guys nearly matched Steve's smoothness, but always came off sounding like impersonators. Arnel, who ironically WAS a tribute band singer, has evolved into his own phrasing while still honoring the originals. He brings an edge and real passion to his performances, and hits those high notes really clean and precise. What a find. Don't be angry - Steve can't do these songs anymore, and they deserve to continue being sung.
It’s crazy. I was actually kinda mad when I first heard Arnel. It was a combination of “he’s incredible” and “he’ll never be Steve.” But knowing what all he’s been through since joining them and watching him honestly just get better and better, I just love listening to him now. He’s really, really good and makes these songs feel alive again for me.

I love Journey and saw them with Steve, Steve and Arnel. Always a great concert. A voice is unique thing and growing up with Steve Perry’s voice leaves me in awe.
@george bent.. Arnel can still hit the high notes at 54 yo.. He still has the stamina to run around the stage, jump and fly! night after night after night aftet night after night, singing the repertoire of like 7 or 8 songs? And he continued the legacy for 15 years after Steve left.. When he joined Journey, concert tours were always a success, and tickets olweiz sold out.. We love love you Arnel 💙💙💙
Steve Perry’s voice is a class of its own, unique and unparalleled. There will never be another Steve Perry but Arnel Pineda has the best voice and intensity among the rest.🌹🌹🌹
ME: Read the Title…giggled, because DUH…clicked on the video but immediately paused it because DUH. But I’m gonna help you out. There is a very talented, humble man who has a voice that you recognize as soon as you hear him - he’s also the only reason you’ve ever heard of Journey. His name is Steve (The Voice) Perry! Hope this helps you. I’m going to find a video
Steve P helped write a bunch of the best Journey songs. That says alot. So he should feel them the most. The ones we all say we love the best. Only The Young, Ask The Lonely and all the great songs from Escape(love the song), Frontiers, Raised On Radio, ETC. I found Journey in 1980 in high school. Because he co wrote the material, Steve P = Journey 4 m3!!!
Imagine the pressure on Arnel after one of the most incredible voice there is: the one of Steve Perry! He does a really really good job, respect. And yes, Perry’s voice is one of a kind ❤

Steve Perry has a voice that is so moving! His songwriting, voice, and natural talent makes him amazing! Arnel, makes it able to listen to, but Steve Perry, wow! Just wow!
Steve was the original but Arnel is on the same level and seeing the “journey” it took for him to arrive at this place in time. From being homeless, making any possibility into a way to get money to get by on the streets of the Philippines, to getting to the U.S. He his humble, kind and is thankful for the CZcams clip that gave hime this opportunity…

@@sharifwandag6144 - I wouldn’t say yes. Let’s remember it was Perry who co-wrote these songs that these other singers cover. As much as I like Arnel, he’s a cover band singer. Every time I have seen him perform every song he did was Steve Perry’s. The difference between him with Journey when I saw him and him singing with a cover band in the Philippines was Schon, Cain, Smith, and Valory were in the band and not his local friends.

Always Steve Perry. Grew up watching the videos on MTV, movies with their music on the soundtrack ( love Vision Quest), listening on the radio, buying their records and tapes and posters. Unless you lived in that time, you probably won't understand.
Steve was awesome, went to their concert here in Hawaii which they even had to add an extra concert because it sold out so quickly. There is something in the quality of Steve's high notes and ease of hitting them, and after watching those that came on after him, Steve Augeri and Jeff Scott Soto could hit the notes, but one thing was missing from their sound, it was the vibrato in their holding the notes. Arnel is definitely above those 2 others as you can hear on the high note the vibrato and tone that Steve had. Also, Arnel has that ease of hitting the high notes easily, not stressed or straining to reach it. Everyone will say that Journey isn't the same without Steve, but you have to remember that Steve left the band and didn't want to perform anymore. As a fan of their music, this was a letdown for the other members of the band as they are just as much a part of the performance as he was. I appreciate that with Arnel they can still do concerts to this day, that the other members of the band can still benefit from performing their hit songs and new songs that they make. Old groups and bands will lose members and will have to replace them eventually, so with Arnel it's still hearing the songs that we grew up with.
@@Calypso231 You really are arguing the wrong point here. Without someone singing Steve's parts, what does the rest of the band do? Will they be able to perform all these past years? You are trying to equate Arnel to Steve but that is NOT THE POINT! WE all KNOW that he's not the same, the point is the BAND can PLAY and make money and play their songs. Do you think people will NOT go to the concert just because it's Arnell? Or do you think people will go to see the band and listen to songs that they grew up with REGARDLESS of Arnell?
Amazingly said!!! The show must go on with or without Perry. Arnel is a fantastic singer. So glad they discovered him. Steven Perry gave birth to Journey and glad Arnel and Journey are looking after this gift. ❤❤❤
I think Steve Auguri was a close third to Steve Perry & Arnel Pineda, echoing the latter two's vocal sound & style, especially in the song, "All the Way". I love that song, & sing it to my wife, often!
Mr. Perry will always have the edge for three reasons. 1. He wrote them. They were designed for his voice so it’s a perfect marriage between voice and content. 2. Nostalgia. You can’t escape his shadow and you hear his voice still everyday on the radio compared with the others. 3. He was simply the best.

When Steve Perry mentioned and acknowledged Arnel Pineda in his Hall Of Fame speech, to me that’s the passing of the torch in my opinion. He gave Arnel full love and respect for saving Journey and continue the legacy.

Arnel is not only the closest to Perry in terms of vocal range and stage presence, he’s also the second longest tenured singer. Can’t believe it’s been 16 years since he joined the band, and he’s still in the lineup!
That says a lot. Arnel earned his right to sing with the band for such a long time. I still have them down on my bucket list of concerts to see.
Steve Perry from 1977 to 1987, and from 1995 to 1998. Arnel is the longest tenured singer in Journey

Great opinion. Agree
This!
YES!!!
His song "Foolish Heart" showed just how lovely his voice when left alone.

Not necessarily with this song, but Deen Castronovo should be considered, because there are videos of him singing others like "Still They Ride" and "Open Arms." And when Neal put Journey Through Time together a few years ago, Deen sang lead the whole time and nailed it.

Steve was and will always be the voice of Journey!
This is hard to believe, but there is truth in it.
Let's say end this journey band so no more criticism comparing Steve perry to Arnel pinada. Steve I guess left or didn't want to play so journey the band wants to continue playing, performing so they did with different front men's and ended u with Arnel that now is and still the front man of journey..

They would be unique if they didn't copy a style of someone else
no he hasn't their records tanked , their shows are a big karaoke sing a long. Neil and Jon are to blame
Nobody "saved the band". They are just a karaoke version of their former selves and are able to line Schon's pockets.

Check out a LIVE outdoor concert from him and his band (Journey Experience) in Belgium! on youtube type in Kevin Chalfant and a few vids down is his outdoor concert! (His keyboard player is my friend!)
Not close
He’s really, really good and makes these songs feel alive again for me.
neither can Arnel. I can tell with the first note it isn't Steve Perry
stop w/ the hate
You can't be better than the person you are trying to imitate. That is just common sense

I once drew a picture of Steve Augeri and tweeted it at him. He retweeted it and gave me a ton of compliments. It warmed my heart so much. Great guy.
Omg. When it was arnel’s turn, I got goosebumps
I love Journey and saw them with Steve, Steve and Arnel. Always a great concert. A voice is unique thing and growing up with Steve Perry’s voice leaves me in awe.
Nobody like Perry ! Ever .. the last one was the best of the others
Arnel Pineda has an amazing voice! He is already 54yrs old but can still hit high notes.💕
No he can't.
@george bent..
The clarity of arnels diction and even the emotion is superb but no one can replace the original Steve,
Steve perry is the best 2nd is arnel pineda thats all
@@rodrigolacampuenga1050 where is steve now? if he's the best?
for me arnel is the best of all! beautiful vocal range and strong impact on the audience accompanied by charisma..
Steve Perry’s voice is a class of its own, unique and unparalleled. There will never be another Steve Perry but Arnel Pineda has the best voice and intensity among the rest.🌹🌹🌹
Arnel’s voice is the closest to Steve ‘s for us oldest fans.
For me nothing beats Steve Perry but the last one is next to Steve Perry!
What singer 'comparison'?!!! 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 ONE GOAT! 🙌🏻 #TeamPerry
I miss steve perry in journey but. Arnel pineda is the second steve perry in journey
Arnel Pineda is the best replacement
Steve P helped write a bunch of the best Journey songs. That says alot. So he should feel them the most. The ones we all say we love the best. Only The Young, Ask The Lonely and all the great songs from Escape(love the song), Frontiers, Raised On Radio, ETC.
I found Journey in 1980 in high school. Because he co wrote the material, Steve P = Journey 4 m3!!!
Steve just has more feeling. U can't replace a magical voice. Love him.
Imagine the pressure on Arnel after one of the most incredible voice there is: the one of Steve Perry! He does a really really good job, respect. And yes, Perry’s voice is one of a kind ❤
Hello Laurence,

Steve Perry is my fave of all time no need to say more. Arnel is so talented, charismatic and high energy he brought back to Journey. Respect!!!
Arnel voice is so clear and strong that's why he stays with the band for 16 years, but i love the voice of steve Perry ❤️👍
Steve Perry was with Journey for 21 years.
@@shannonfreeman1 NO... Perry was a member of the group from 1977 to 1987 and returned to the band from 1995 to 1998... 13 years only, NOT 21 😂😂😂
agree. steve is steve. arnel is second with the clearest delivery. there is the growl but very clear voice.
@@shannonfreeman1 13 yrs only...
While Arnel 15 yrs up present
@@shannonfreeman1 😆😆😆
Steve is Journey. Always will be. He’s the reason they became the great band.
Replacing Steve Perry is like trying to replace Freddie Mercury in Queen or Paul McCartney in the Beatles!!!!!
Correct but the new, bloke does a great job aswell steve will be the one remembered

I just came across this today and Steve Perry is the man everyone else don't quite measure up!
No one can replace Steve Perry. He is and always will be numberc1
It's not just that Arnel is the 2nd best ever Journey singer, it's that he still sounds great singing these songs in 2023.
Granted he’s older, but even Steve cannot sing his own songs anymore that Arnel still can.
Arnel is the best..
Search for arnel pineda and regine velasquez singing without you... Arnel pineda was 20 years old back then.... That was his prime...

Steve will always be my favorite, but Arnel is a damn good singer and he can replicate Steves voice almost perfectly.

Steve perry's performance compare during his younger days is quit difference, but as an original singer of the band is a big factor also.
OMFG, Arnel, bless your voice. It's perfection. Hate how people live in the past..
Most honest and realistic comment.
he can not hit the highs that steve did he does not have the same range
I'd never heard any other Journey singers except Steve Perry until this video. He's still the best, but Arnel Pineda has an incredible voice, too.
each new singer could do one song ok, but there will always only be one Steve Perry, that man could blow.
Arnel Pineda was the only one able to fill Steve's shoes vocally.
Couldn't agree more❤🎉
I think Steve Auguri was a close third to Steve Perry & Arnel Pineda, echoing the latter two's vocal sound & style, especially in the song, "All the Way". I love that song, & sing it to my wife, often!
For me the last one is the best, clear and strong voice.
