I believe this is Bill Graham's memorial service. I was in that crowd. The reason people are quieter than usual is that it was a sad reason to come together. It's not because we didn't love hometown heroes Journey, but that we had lost the pillar of the SF music scene to a tragic accident. Neil Schon can read a crowd better than anyone and will play accordingly, and nobody was too happy to be saying goodbye that day. I think it was paced perfectly, I think this is one of the best renditions of these particular songs cuz they are so heart-felt. The lights had indeed gone down in the city.

Steve Perry is and made Journey what it was and Always will be. My teenage crush in the 80s and even today at 70 years old still a spunk. The Music, The Lyrics, The VOICE. Steve Perry An Earth Angel inside and out. Kindest thoughts from Australia xx
@@wandagoss8469 hi Wanda! First I want to confirm this reply is not to you personally but to everyone who has a put down to FM singing live. Your comment gave me that opening. Fighting a virus; interesting concept on why he sounded atrocious. But, it happens. So many ppl like to “hate on” per se, FM’s voice because of it’s cracks & breaks; which actually made it more beautiful. Early years he was flat out drunk. But in the early 80’s on….he lived with a raw throat that had growths on & off, and a terrible sore throat almost 24/7. By end of concerts he was exhausted but he kept going….and he KNEW how to control his voice as a post said he didn’t; pure bs. He sang until he couldn’t; gravely ill. My point; if Steve Perry had that issue, he wouldn’t have sang at all. I take nothing from his beautiful voice!! He’s one of the greatest no doubt. But the GOAT had throat problems and sang to perfection 95% of the time. So for those who don’t know that backstory or don’t agree…flip it. A flu is nothing. FM wasn’t a quitter. And his voice was like no other in its perfection.
Steve....you got heart and soul baby! And one of the greatest voices of all time. Can you imagine touring for all the years he did...hitting those notes he hit...over and over...he deserves respect. It was a sad occasion but he still pulled it off. 💜
I was young when it was SP's era. I happened to love Journey through AP and got curious of this amazing band's history. Thank you Steve Perry! You are still honey when it comes to music. The crowd here didnt know what they would miss in the coming years -- seeing SP with the band. The same reason why I try to support them in any way I can, albums, books, dvds, and supporting their social media. Tthese great talents wont be around forever. Their music is about positivity and rock. I love you Steve Perry. Thank you for your music. I love you Journey!
History is the key word here, we should appreciate this last performance of these 3 guys. I'm not holding my breath of ever seeing this history repeat itself, Sadly
ya this was the bill graham memorial. I lived a few blocks away. I was there. sad how people were so hammered by that point and hot in the sun. Also, it sounds better here (recorded off the sound board) than it did in the crowd. pretty sure it was the first concert ever at the Polo Fields. didn't have it dialed in. Also, folks had been out there allll day, drinking, mourning Bill's untimely death. Lotsa veteran old schoolers there who's lives were shaped by what Bill Graham brought to SF Bay, hell- THE WORLD! people were fuuuuucked up! And sad. I sung my ASS off to journey's set and I will always love Steve Perry. One of the all time greatest singers in the world.
I’d have been screaming the lyrics back to him! I love him so much! How can these ppl not be singing along?! Pisses me off & im not even from San Francisco! Waiting for the crowd to say Faithfully, & dead silence! What a shame! WE LOVE YOU STEVE!
I'm 52 in 2023, When I was a little kid I was alone every day in the summer on a big farm, it was very lonely but I had a portable radio with a tape deck, music was how I survived, I had Journey Infinity, Escape & Captured Live. I knew every lyric, every solo... and I Loved Caddyshack scene with Anyway you want it, everything Journey did was filled with good vibes and memorable melody. I haven't kept up with the band after Steve left but I had heard about Arnel but wasn't really interested. For some reason very recently I got curious and watched a few current videos, I was pleasantly surprised but mostly glad to hear Arnel doing his best to sing the legacy that is Steve Perry. The songs have been looping in my head every day lately, I would love to hear Steve sing with Journey once more, I feel like just for that moment we could turn back the clocks and maybe everyone could feel that way again, without the weight of time. So many of our great musicians have passed on, I'm glad to see so much love and respect for Steve, and hopefully he knows it and feels it. Too many times we don't show our true appreciation until they're gone. Stone In Love.
Personally, I absalutely love his voice here, a little more raspier but still can go high. LOVE IT, and the man is truly full of heart, love him FAITHFULLY!!!!!!

I was there about 70 feet from center stage it was an absolute memorable day concert with so many legends the atmosphere was so peaceful everyone helping each other...the crowd went as far as the eye could see flowing upwards into the cypress trees it was so pact the trees around the perimeter were filled they were three football fields back...estimated 300,000 people were there...

Steve Perry is amazing. No one will ever be able to replace him.
But he was still been replaced. Maybe you mean to say is none can be like him and yes indeed. He's great..
Sick during this time? Seems keys are lowered.. SP had difficulty in singing this time.
We can see and feel The sadness of Steve Perry! For Many reasons probably he was sad,but he show that his voice is majestic and beautiful! I really think he is The best Singer of all times! My kid of 9 years old loves him!
Amen to that
I have been lucky enough to see Steve Perry and Journey play 5 or 6 times. He is the best VOICE out there. He is awesome. Love the new music Arnel has brought to Journey. He is doing a great job on keeping Journey in the scene. All of them have. XO ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

This is one of my all time favorites! Faithfully!!!
@Steve Perry absolutely!
Sad to see the crowd so unresponsive. Truly the music was changing then, Steve was a great performer. He has been missed greatly!
Looks like they were opening for the Grateful Dead. That may explain the crowd
Loved journey
Steve was just that bad. I felt sorry for them. Proves though that he wasn’t perfect. 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
He was sick and was fighting a virus
So much talent on stage is incredible Journey
Best voice ever in rock , top of the top top top
There is no JOURNEY without Steve Perry!!!!

Steve....you got heart and soul baby! And one of the greatest voices of all time. Can you imagine touring for all the years he did...hitting those notes he hit...over and over...he deserves respect. It was a sad occasion but he still pulled it off. 💜
Faithfully I love JOURNEY saw them 1978 Pittsburgh pa had a great time Steve Perry you are a classic musician styx Boston Reo foreigner the good music
Faithfully is a classic. What a great song just like you and your band. Brings back great memories of my 💘
I was young when it was SP's era. I love you Journey!
the concert was a memorial service and was very somber. trust me that crowd knew who they are.
@@franktaylor7978 i never said the crowd didnt know who they were.
Journey had been broken up for 4 years at this point. Did not know this even existed. Special piece of music history!
Música linda!! Vc também 😘
Exactly same thoughts. Wonderful surprise.
Jonathan cain, neal schon & deen castronovo were members of rock band bad english way back in 1991 then..
I’d have been screaming the lyrics back to him! I love him so much! How can these ppl not be singing along?! Pisses me off & im not even from San Francisco! Waiting for the crowd to say Faithfully, & dead silence! What a shame! WE LOVE YOU STEVE!
Someone replied it was the way the video was recorded.. Mics couldn’t pick up the crowd.
So good seeing Perry fronting this show with Journey. His vocals , and his and Neil's song writing are what made this band so big.
Personally, I absalutely love his voice here, a little more raspier but still can go high. LOVE IT, and the man is truly full of heart, love him FAITHFULLY!!!!!!
WOW did they spray the crowd with sleeping dust? BEST group EVER and Steve Perry has the best voice ever....Journey ROCKS

I was there about 70 feet from center stage it was an absolute memorable day concert with so many legends the atmosphere was so peaceful everyone helping each other...the crowd went as far as the eye could see flowing upwards into the cypress trees it was so pact the trees around the perimeter were filled they were three football fields back...estimated 300,000 people were there...
longing to be back on time and droping tears of joy. amazing voice
