The Brownell's is still less expensive than what Colt would have charged if they made it.
And probably a better gun in all honestly. Fully Milled receiver, Faxon stress relieved barrel and they nitrided barrel too
🙏🏻
I still have day dreams about what an AR-10 in 280 British would have looked like.
Such a crying shame Stoner wasn't given a proper chance back in the 50s.
Eugene Stoner no doubt got the last laugh against Studler.
The SR -25 first saw action in the 1993 conflict in Mogadishu Somalia, where it stopped an armed gang attack, with three quick shots , three men armed with automatic weapons dropped instantly, the crowd stopped advancing, then as others ran up to attempt to pick up the weapons from the ground they too dropped instantly ,and the crowd backed away, and the team was saved from being over ran by the SR-25! Actually in August of 1995 SOCOM units ordered an early contract of SR-25's ! At that time production was 30 rifles a month. So it was a huge contact at that time. The commercial sales help the funding for the development cost for the benefit of the military units. So Stoner was alive to see his rifle seen adopted by the military unit. And was aware of every current development of the advancement of his weapons design at that time. I know from being there for a fact, having him looking over my shoulder !
ninjadave1970 thank you for sharing!
The Armalite AR10A2 is a handsome battle rifle.
Thanks Chris, you're helping show the true genius of Eugene Stoner. You helped me decide to get my LMT MWS, not bragging at all, I feel honored to possess the evolution of Stoner, Knight, and Lewis. Which sounds like some Rock n Roll power trio..firing it sounds better than most Rock today.
Sounds like the guys on my get out of jail free card.
Sir, I finally discovered this channel a little over a week ago and have been hooked since. I am a long time viewer and patron of the Forgotten Weapons CZcams channel. As much as I love Ian's work, to put it in your words, I feel this channel is "the finest available" firearms channel on CZcams. Thank you for your work.
Stephen M. L. Greatly appreciated, thank you.
Yesterday’s Rifle Reborn! Hats off to Brownells for these retro rifles.
I believe Brownells offers the proper grip now!
Yes I bought one and it didn't fit.
I had to do s lot of filing by hand to get the grip to fit.
No COnsideration?? Portugal was about to arm its entire army with ar-10s when the dutch decided to stop exports of arms.... We were literally forced to chose the G3 because of that. Even today when we speak with old veterans, they will still say that the Ar-10 was superior to the G3 by a long shot.
The original looking magazine they make now really completes the look. I'll be buying one of their new pistol grips for mine as well.
Just found this channel a few weeks ago you are all i have been watching outstanding content!
Glad you enjoy it!
LOVED the video! I called Brownells right after these came available and told them what a great thing they had done for the firearms community likewise their whole retro series! I plan on buying one.
This video is fantastic.
Awsome history lesson, love your channel and thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I love your channel... between you, Mishaco, IV8888, and others, all have a passion for firearms. Your knowledge is so incredible. I appreciate all that you do...
Definitely love what brownells has been doing with their retro line. Working on piecing together a XM16E1 build. But that BRN10 is a wonder. Original AR10 rifles are way out of reach for most enthusiasts.
Brownell's has been really rocking it lately, kudos to them and what a beautiful rifle.
Well they just put the parts together. They don’t make rifles, they sell them.
OMG!!! This is the review I’ve been waiting for! Outstanding job Bartocci! May your household be blessed beyond belief. Thanks for your service and hard work.
Can't even imagine getting a first look at the BRN like you did. I love this video! Getting one of my own soon and I'm just digesting everything I can, these long form historical videos are amazing. Thank you!
I love these guns if I had the money I would have one of each of the retro guns, great work Brownells
You do good work
Love find one of those old Knights to go with my SASS
Excellent video and history! JMB and EMS my favorite designers......I WILL buy one of these BRN 10a s , thanks again
I imagine the buffer spring alone should be another reason why there wasn't a forward assist on the AR-10 platform. I have a B series AR-10 (A2 look), and a PA-10 rifle and I really needed to pull to chamber a round on a closed bolt
Awesome, awesome, I definitely learned a bunch of good stuff. Thanks for the video!
He kinda said at the end what I thought he might say. That if they would have had this Rifle against the M-14 in the 50's we woulda gone to this AR 10 any day of the week, if we had any common sense.
Armalite entered the AR10 in the service rifle trials process, but was dropped when a prototype with a composite laminated steel-aluminum barrel failed catastrophically during testing. Armalite chief engineer Eugene Stoner had argued firmly against the experimental barrel being included for testing alongside other steel-only barreled rifles, but was overruled by the CEO. Until their prototype failed, the AR10 had gotten off to a promising start. Simple twist of fate.... wish they'd listened to Eugene Stoner....
Recently discovered your channel, you are truly a wealth of knowledge! Been binge watching all morning!
2 minutes in and I am already impressed with both your knowledge and your story telling ability. Thanks.
Oh wow, now I know why I was so impressed with the look of the Eagle Arms AR-15A1 in the 1995 Gun Buyer's Guide I used to drool over back when I was 15. It was the one AR-15 I wanted the most listed in that whole catalog. I'm really interested in that Air Force style AR-15 that Brownell's released as well.
I know this video is two years old, but it is one HELL of a fine one. Dealing with the history of this caliber firearm and how it finally got its day in the sun. It is such a shame the people most responsible for the firearm being a reality did not live to see this most outstanding weapon design truly come into its own. All because of a ( A, H ) politician who was not looking for what was best for our service and its people. No it was his way and only his way. Yes this should have been our service firearm. Again thank you my man for a top notch video full of great information and history. Hang in there and God Bless you and yours my friend
Great informative video!
DI has been around a long time. Before AR series even.
The AR 10 is awsome!!
First of all thanks for the history of the AR10 and for all the videos you do! I know that these videos must take an incredible amount of time to do the research and put it all together even though you have a special insight from working for Colt. Very much appreciate your insight!
Question, after a year would you still consider the Brownell to still be the best AR10 type rifle on the market? Or would you steer towards another variation from another manufacturer? I ask because I own a DPMS variant and quite frankly its a heavy beast! I've been considering getting another AR10 type rifle and would love your input!
hell of a lot more controllable when the giggle switch is on than the m 14
Awesome intro. Heather's been big time editing. Looks good.
Thanks! I'm glad you like it!
Great job. Quality information and presentation. Effective team.
Great video, enjoyed watching it while having a Hoya de Monterray Excaliber!
This video is great. You are very knowledgeable
A shame they stopped selling them complete
Just received my BRN-10A last week. Haven't been to the range. Can't keep my hands or eyes off of it. Currently on sale for around $1300.00. Wasn't crazy about the brown furniture, but I wanted the fluted barrel and 3 prong flash hider. I also ordered a black furniture set, but getting the butt plate screw out of the buffer tube is causing me grief. I guess I'll leave the brown on and just use the heat shields that came with the black furniture. The brown is really starting to grow on me anyway.
I think these are awesome looking for what they are even if they are not 100% to the original. It’s as close anyone will ever get using modern materials. I’d love to own one eventually. I just purchased an XBRN-16E1 because of family history in the Vietnam War. If the rifle turns out to be as great as I know it will be I will definitely try to collect the entire series of these retro builds. Great review as always. Brownells is doing an awesome job.
OP, you are the most knowlegeable guy making youtube posts on these old weapons. If I ever decide to buy another 7.62 x 51 rifle I may send some money to Brownells. Also interested in their M-16 retro rifle although the price seems a bit high. At least Brownells is stepping up and trying to give us some more choices. Takes guts for a company to do so.
Great Job Bartocci's!!!
You're review is right on. I'm just as excited as you are to see this AR10 repro. In regards to comparison with the M14 again you are 100% correct. Yet, you were a little hard on the M14...there is no doubt the AR10 is better, but if you were issued, trained on and served with an M14 you get an emotional attachment to it as a soldier, and at least the M14 served adequately , at most, a trusted companion. In the hands of a proper rifleman , the politics is forgotten. Cheers!
These Retro rifles are so damn cool!
19:57 - 20:27 this bit really got me. The level of genius required to invent something that would be cutting edge 60 years later... Damn. I'm building my own AR10 off Aero parts right now, after already having built my first AR15 last year and getting hooked on the hobby. The lineage of these rifles is such a tale, and their design still blows my mind in 2019. Thanks for doing these presentations. The knowledge you've accumulated is invaluable and these stories are fascinating. Channels like yours got this gen Z kid into firearms.
I really like what brownells is doing with this retro series of rifles. I really love the classic ARs, and to bring back this history is truly amazing. I don't know how brownells does for such a low price but I hope they continue to do it. I really want one of these rifles.
True educative video!
Music is appropriate as this video is like Christmas!
You're right. These are bargain priced all things considered. Thank you, Brownell's!
For some reason, I love the ringing coming from the flash hider.
That intro was too epic!!! Awesome stuff, what a great thing to see when you get off work!!! A new video from my favorite channel, thanks guys
Chris, you had to work hard to keep your cool--that grin at the end of shooting was eloquent.
It took some doing, but the rifle finally found the range to the camera! :D Outstanding video! I, too, drooled a little bit when I first saw the announcements, but in reality this retro is just not practical for me. I suppose I will come closest to an M110 clone, with brown furniture, perhaps. Will that forend be compatible with other AR pattern .308s?
It's been done in canada look up the BCL 102 it's a modern AR10
Love The Intro Cheers.
I love the report of the 308!!! Very nice rifle.
When you opened the rifle the hammer has what looks like a Pegasus etched into it :)
Excellent video, Chris! Not going to lie, I had a bit of a chuckle when I saw your face when talking about the M14. Looking forward to that upcoming video on it.
Also, do you know whether Brownells will be coming out with waffle mags for the AR-10? I feel those would really complete the look of the classic rifles.
A Bowl of Pho you never know. I hope so.
Well they made waffle mags for the 601s so I wouldn't be surprised if they make them eventually.
They stated on Arfcom a few weeks back that they're working on it; their current focus are the reproduction prototype 25 round AR15 magazines and finishing off the rest of the little details for the next batch of BRN10s (there's been a lot of complaints that the front sight is zeroed too far, the ears on the carry handle are too high, etc.).
Kennard Lang just was told by Brownells they will be making a waffle magazine
@@SmallArmsSolutions That's cool! I'll probably wait on those releasing before I decide to pick up one of these rifles. Unfortunately, funds are a little tight at the moment. I just snatched up one of those Robinson M96 rifles so the AR-10 will have to wait. :/
A local shop had a Portugese AR10 sitting in the back, I am not sure if it needed repairs or who's it was, the owner wasnt in and the kid who was working didn't know anything about it or even what it was. When I go back hopefully it will still be there I am going to try and buy it, if the owner will entertain an offer
Great video. Lol at brass hitting the camera
Best Ar-10 I have had the pleasure of running is the m&p10. Most accurate as well. It was shot for shot as accurate as a 20in barreled aero precision an it had a 16 in 5r barrel. Love the whole retro line from Brownells. I really want one of their brn180s
Awesome vid. Thanks much.
The AR10 is the best looking battle rifle of all time.
I want that rifle.
They only sell them as parts today.
Hey Brownells
Make them again please.
Dang, you rocked that Sudanese!
Nice.
Great vid
AR is the Milwaukee tools of rifles.
Imagine how good the ar10 would have been in .280 British. Especially, back in that era.
Damn you Americans are so lucky...
I don't know why people are going on about Brownell's retro rifle prices as I think they're quite reasonable.
It's not luck, our rights have been paid for over and over again with the blood or patriots and tyrants.
AR10 in .280 British would be so damn cool.
Vitor Roma it would have been interesting
Great to see that smile after you shot it, a dream come true.
Thanks for another Great very informative video.👍😎
Forgotten Arms has a great video on the AR-10.
Adopted by Cuba, Sudan, Portugal & Netherlands.
About 6,000 Sold to different countries.
A picture of one in the Middle East held by an insurgent.
LMT's MWS seems to be an improvement over the SR-25. The UK recently adopted the LMT as its designated Marksman Rifle!
I like the Quick change barrel on the LMT. But I still waiting for LMT to get caught up so I can buy a 6.5 Creedmore Barrel for my MWS.
Cheers
great video
God I wish we would've developed more AR-10's. We woulda chewed up Vietnam with these rifles.
Especially, if they'd went with the 280 British cartridge. It would've made them far more effective on full auto and it has excellent ballistics.
When he's referring to the original stock and handguard and pistol grip as fiberlite is that basically the same thing as Bakelite, just curious if anybody knows?
Finally someone else who also thinks we should have adopted the 280 British
That one dislike, every time... WTF?
chad haire 😂
Freaking awesome!!!!
Nice rifle for sure . I read some where that the original rifles wore out a lot faster than most other semi auto 7.62x51Nato rifles , any truth to it ? Can't remember where I read it but , what would be the longevity of these retro rifles ? By the way awesome intro ROCK ON ! : )
Al Codie no sir, never heard that.
Now that is good to hear .
I am also in Houston, Texas. I have been looking for an outdoor range that allows machine gun fire, do you have a recommendation?
Bit of extra info: Fairchild aircraft did a cross licensing agreement. Deal was Fairchild got the license to produce the Fokker F27 turboprop and Artillerie Inrichtingen ( basically like a government arsenal like Engfield and Springfield) was given a license to produce the AR10. BTW, AI had been in business for centuries.
Second; Dutch government closed down production of small arms production in 1961 or 1962. This was the end of the Dutch adventure for the AR10
Last week I had in my hands an almost mint civilian AR10 and it was referred t by the dealer as a second generation civilian AR10 in semi auto. Looked a lot like a Portugese/NATO version.
Dealer is looking into exporting it to the USA. Dutch price around 2500 EUROS..........
Great work Chris I enjoyed the video a lot! Out of curiosity where did you read that he started out manufacturing dental plates for a pharmaceutical company?
Rick Gao it was in my notes from years of research
Rcmp pls make this non restricted
Good Luck, your "buddy" Justin is going to do his best to ban them all or just make everything a restricted firearm, basically glorified paperweights. Good luck to all of our Canadian Brothers and Sisters.
I have a Eagle Arms AR carbine, they did not stake the gas key bolts, mainly use its lower for my RRA 20" upper which is a gem.
I'll take the brn10 with the drop in scope colt copy made overseas for my hunting rifle instead of the Remington r25. A lot cheaper too
Fate? More like a GOD-send. Much like Browning and his designs.
To bad Mr. Stoner isn't still around to see this.
What year did Studler retire vs. when was the FAL tested? There's a gap there somewhere.
Colonel Rene Studler retired from the U.S. Army in 1953; having been born in 1895 he would have been in his late fifties. But he continued as a consultant for the Army and Air Force on weapons development for sometime afterwards as a civilian. Studler was far from the only traditionalist within the Ordnance Dept., so even if his involvement lessened after 1953 his influence remained.
Had I worked for Armalite marketing, the catch phrase would have been: "A future Rifle for the Nuclear Age !"
I don't think your AR10 likes Heather, keeps pelting her with brass. I'm glad you cleared up why Brownells isn't using the grey finish, however maybe they can see if Troy might help. The grey finishes Troy uses on their retro builds are pretty close at least when I compared the finish of their M16A2 Carbine clone to my 1971 production Colt SP-1.
Ar 10's and 15's have always been underappreciated.
Is there a way to convert the AR10Ts to accept a more readily available AR10 mags vs the M14 mags?
SonOfTheDawn515 you would need to replace both upper and lower receivers. You could reuse all parts but the mag catch assy
@@SmallArmsSolutions That's disheartening.
Do they have any plans on making the flash hider?
Will this rifle function with 7.62x51? Brownells specifies .308 Winchester as the caliber. I know with that raging P.O.S. boat anchor M1A / M14 you must use 7.62 with 147 grain bullets. A specific load for that rifle. Thanks man great videos and great history!
David Sloan it fires both. I have fired quite a bit of both and this rifle runs flawless.
Very cool. Might have to find the old coffee can out back.
THANKS, CHRIS. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADOPTED MAYBE IN THE BRIT .280. WAS IN NAM WHEN EVERYTHING WENT WRONG WITH THE M-16 (CRIMINAL). LIKE TO SEE SOMETHING ON THE HK-33 5.56 SEAL RIFLE CARRIED IN NAM.
I wish I could have met Gene Stoner.
As a former Colt employee, what are the chances of hearing about the Colt Double Eagle and the All American 2000?
I would love to hear at least your opinions on them.
jweathers131 I have been talking with someone about sending me a Colt 2000
SmallArmsSolutions
Cool. Thank you. I have always wanted to know about Inside of Colt at that time.
Is there any data as concerning the effectiveness of the original muzzle brake?
Francisco Padilla three prong are more effective as a rule than enclosed ones
George Sullivan or James Sullivan?
