      TheBraveGallade it has a 0.6 hyperspace speed!?!? That’s crazy I can only imagine how a tactician like thrawn could abuse that. Especially since the acclamator could be considered a boarding craft. Imagine having interdictors set up and having an acclamator hyperspace right above a mon calamari cruiser and just drop thousands of stormtroopers in there and leave immediately before they even realize what happened.

      The Venator was scrapped mainly because it did not fit well with the Empires naval doctrine. Relying on Capital Ship firepower instead of vast quantities of fighters. The Venators hanger configuration would have also been less than ideal for the new Tie Fighters being introduced into the fleet. Other ships like the Acclamator fulfilled a specific niche within the Imperial Military and thus was kept in service for far longer.

The ASFMII's turbolasers way outranged the Acclamator's weapons, and by sending in the free reinforcements from the station to occupy and slow down the constant stream of acclamators, my ASFMII's made short work of them. It's a design flaw, they are so used to having windows over thousands of years they didn't take full advantage of the possibilities of the holotech.
      What is even more stupid is they went back to vulnerable windows on the Imperial Star Destroyers, that can be taken out by a out of control A-Wing.
      But yes, having an internal bridge is superior, not only from the perspective of protecting the command crew and removing the opportunity to decapitate the ship, but improving the aerodynamics and allowing more armour by streamlining the hull.
      Still they're not the only ones, while not as bad, Starfleet ships tend to have their bridge on top of the saucer section, even though they use viewers. The only exception is the Defiant.

    @umad42 Před 5 lety +7

    If I was running The Republic Navy I would have had a more built out roster of ships. The Venator is a great carrier but an awful battleship, they should have commissioned a dedicated battleship as soon as the conflict broke out. The Acclamator is alright at a lot of things, but I would have modernized the Dreadnaughts already in service to fulfill the frigate role and relegated the Acclamator to landing troops. And of course there would need to be some readjustment for dedicated anti-fighter ships. Something fast with missiles and laser cannons. Pull some old cruisers, like the Hammerhead of which there is likely a huge graveyard full of them, out of mothballs to do inner sector security duties and then the Republic would have a well balanced ship roster and fleet composition that would have allowed them to be more evenly footed against the CIS in space.

Even if all the crews would have been non clones, the would only be able to fill around 200 of these big troop transporters and that dors not fit with a szenario of a galactic war...

      scifi writter have ne sense of scale for how big space is. 40k is about the mainstream scifi property that gives reasonable numbers for troops and they intended for it to be over the top and ridiculously huge. take coruscant just going off surface area the 1 trillion population would make have less people per square kilometer than new York now take into account the buildings are high enough they need life support on the upper floors and they shade out the surface completely and with the numbers given and you'd rarely see another living soul which doesn't line up at all with the movies portrayal. even Asimov and the foundation books really low balled the population of a city spanning planet. you can also look at star destroyers which have utterly tiny crews when scaled up from a real navel ship. modern carrier tends to hold 64 planes on average and can hold as many as 90 depending on the aircraft a star destroyer despite being over twice the size and having fighter meant to be disposable swarm craft has a comparable 72

    The dual-roles of the Acclamator make no sense. If it’s landing troops it can’t be providing orbital covering fire or engaging other ships in its frigate role. I really like the ship though and think it could be refit in two different variants that optimize its intended roles.
    The Acclamator II got close to optimizing it’s frigate/bombardment role with more guns and better shields but it should have gone even further, devoting as much space as possible (save maybe a small hangar for escort fighters and boarding shuttles) to weapons and shields, ditching the landed assault role entirely.
    If you want a ground assault version fine. Give it anti-star-fighter weapons to defend itself and provide cover. Equip some weapons intended to be used as planet-side artillery. Give it some other blaster turrets and such for clearing an LZ. It doesn’t really need bombardment turbo lasers and concussion missiles. Essentially it becomes a mobile fort that is landed on the surface and functions as a base during the ground campaign

    • @SkywalkerWroc
      @SkywalkerWroc Před 5 lety +4

      Concussion missiles were that anti-star-fighter weapons that you asked for.
      And it served as a light frigate in its secondary role, given lack of dedicated ships of the class (effect of having GAR built in secrecy). It really makes perfect sense, as it has all the weapons needed to clear-up the landing zone that have a dual-use in a space combat.

    • @andyrihn1
      @andyrihn1 Před 5 lety +1

      SkywalkerWroc The turbo lasers would be useless and the concussion missiles wouldn’t really be good starfighter defense while the Acclamator is grounded (fulfilling its primary function). I get the whole multiuse because of secrecy but that doesn’t mean you can’t reconfigure the same spaceframe to serve dedicated functions. It would be a better frigate if it wasn’t intended to land heavy equipment and that space was used for more weapons and shields. It would be a better lander if some of the heavy spacebased weapons were changed out for lighter support weapons and the extra interior space used for more troops and equipment.
      Like I said, I like the ship, the design is solid. But why make 10 mediocre frigate/lander hybrids when you can make basic modifications to the exact same design and get 3 excellent mobile fortresses and 7 spectacular frigates.
      As it is, it’s like putting a supercharged street racing engine in a four-dour Civic sedan. The Civic is great at being either a performance vehicle or a practical sedan but it wouldn’t do both very well at the same time but you can economically use the same frame to fill two different functions

      I do the same thing to the victory's weapons while weakening the venators complement.
      Thus the venator is a pricey but versatile in between ship that serves between the specialized early game ones.
      I also always get rid of all shields in the game because it makes battles way bloodier and more fun

      First thing I did on my system was mod Acclamators to launch 3 large squadrons of V-19's equipped with lasers and missiles, and a small squadron of Delta-7s with rapid fire lasers and "Lure", both with reinforcements. At Tech 5, they get a medium squadron of ARC-170s to replace a V-19.
      Next, I set the warhead hard points to use Weapon Swap to fire either concussion missiles, or proton torpedoes.
      Then, set up point defense lasers and quad turbolasers to port and starboard.
      The extra hard points give it survivability to launch fighters and meet a frigate on equal terms Power to Shields.
      They get to be a pain when more than 3 show up with Dreadnought support. AI loves spamming them.

    From what I've seen the Acclamator is abundantly more durable than it's Venator contemporary but had weak firepower compared to the Venator. It's durability was excellent owing to it's Neutronium Hull cladding (It was able to take Fusion Rockets without so much as a scratch) and it's Hyperdrive was extremely advanced for it's time (Class 0.6 or 0.75) The Venator was built as a dedicated Starfighter Carrier / Attack Cruiser whereas the Acclamator was built as an armed Durable Troop Transport.

    Once you run the numbers on what an Acclamator can carry it is really easy to wonder why the hell did they not set some of these up as carriers instead of making the Venator a hybrid cruiser/carrier (most of the land vehicles and the LAATs were larger than Republic fighters and bombers, often 2:1 space craft vs land vehicle in ratio overall). Heck cut down on the vehicle complement (eliminating the internal vehicle derrick as well) and use the mass for armor, shields and some more weapons and this would be a decent light cruiser (it was the size of one).

      It makes me wish they had continued the idea of the Victory-class Star Destroyer which, in Legends, was the main cruiser of the Republic during the Clone Wars. The Venator is cool and all, but is better served as a carrier rather than a cruiser. The Victorys should have been the ships doing the heavy fighting while the Venators deployed squadrons and Acclamators landed troops and acted as surface bases. Later on the Victory and Venators would be combined into the Imperial-class to serve as both battleship and carrier.

    • @maway5

      @@VegetaLF7 You're absolutely right, in Legend the Republic fleet was fairly balanced between Victory's, Venator's, Acclamator's I and II and various frigates like dreadnoughts.

    I don't think windows are always necessarily a weakness. Obviously they're not gonna stand up to the same firepower as dedicated armor, but in a universe like Star Wars where ion weapons are extremely common and potent, a good old fashioned window doesn't seem like such a bad idea. Consider episode 3 where the Venator is broadsiding Separatist ships with those manually operated short range guns. Even under a hail of ion fire shutting down major computer systems, those clones can still point and shoot. Especially because there's no projectile drop in space, and the targets are generally comically large warships, a direct fire weapon without the need of computer input, at least for close range engagements, doesn't seem like a terrible backup weapon.
