I didn't get the rules the first time and was like,, it's probably fine, I'll figure it out as they go,,,, and then was really confused the first round bc I didn't realise they'd said the question and was like, "I know they're trying to convince each other of smth, but what are the non snake ppl supposed to do with just 3 words???" And then I realised 2nd round they had a question that was asked before they checked the answer and that's what the words were talking about, lol

I was thinking the same thing - the human would automatically know who everyone else is and could just tell the mongoose? I guess the mongoose could think the human is a liar, but still...
I think more snakes means more chaos,, since the mongoose won't know who's the snakes, the snakes are the ones who inherently know the answer, but can do whatever they want with it,, tell the truth, lie, argue with each other or agree,, anything,, so then the human knows who everyone else is, but also has no information,,,, it makes sense to me i guess,, they have the knowledge advantage of what the other people's roles are, but not the answer,, the snakes have the answer, the mongoose has undeniable trust, but is also missing the info

Playing "lemme mess with you and make you think this is or isnt the answer" is already my favourite bonus game during the other teams turn when playing codenames,, essentially devils advocate for literally any card to try and throw them off or relate cards i dont think have anything to do with the hint,,, honestly,, I'd probably love to play this game,, it basically gives that same energy,, but as the actual game and not just me distracting the other team and gaslighting them into picking atuff that isnt related,, or just annoying them with stuff that clearly isn't related at all but I can bs my way into relating them adhd style

This game also reminds me a lot of the "Werewolves of Miller's Hollow"-game (at least I know it in Dutch as "De Werewolven van Wakkerdam") 😉
That was also what I thought. I think in German it also technically has a longer name, but we usually just simply call it "Werewolf/Werewolves" (actual German spelling: Werwolf/Werwölfe).
This is pretty much the same game as "Werewolf", except you're guessing a right answer to a quiz question, not who the werewolves are.
