- Take a look at my journey of being a First Year Sonography Student in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program at Montgomery College đ
Like and comment if you'd like to see more of my journey in my DMS schooling! i'd love to share my knowledge and advice! Just say the word!
Can you make a whole video on how you got into the career and requirements in college please
coming soon if enough people are interested!
I am incredibly interested how you got into it and everything you had to do in college before you started the actual program. I just got my phlebotomist license and national certificate but wish I wouldâve discovered sonography career path before.
I'm interested!
Yeah! I'm rooting for it
Very interested as well, i am currently taking my prereqs and I am the the path to being a tech as well.
I hate being indecisive ahhhh. For the longest time I wanted to be a nurse or at least do something in health care (ex. radiation therapist or a medical sonographer). After volunteering in the hospital for almost 100 hours, I started thinking that maybe health care wasn't for me. So, that lead me to wanting to be a teacher because I've always been a strong student who loved going to school. But watching these kind of videos urge me to go into health care.. I'm only 17 and it sucks trying to make a decision that will impact the rest of my life.
I always wanted to be an early education teacher because of the same reasons. but I went into healthcare... healthcare is where money is but also where stress is too. so i tried to branch into a least stressful job in healthcare.. ultrasound. you're still young. 17 is when I started my in-depth research into ultrasound. let me know if you need any guidance. its hard when you are young
I'm 21 and I've been going back and forth between teaching and being a nurse as well. It's very stressful not knowing exactly what you wanna do!
Iâm in the same boat as you!!!
I am in the exact same boat!! I started out with looking at nursing/rad tech/occupational therapy, but got intimidated by the difficulty of some programs and the competitiveness. I'm also fairly young (19 years old), but still feel completely unsure! I will be shadowing in a hospital soon, so that should really give me a feel for the field. The more you time you can spend in the actual work environment, the better. Giving yourself a couple months to go over the decision also helps. Best of luck with everything!
Iâm 27 and let me tell you, YOU HAVE TIME! Itâs totally normal to go back and forth on what you want to do! Best advice I can give is dive head first into it! You never truly know what you love until you try it! And if you donât like it, itâs never too late to do something else! You have time, I promiseâ€ïž
I am so excited to see that being an ultrasound technician is a delightful occupation. This is my major and currently, I am taking my prerequisite courses to become an RDMS. I pray every day that God will continue to bring me closer to my dream job. So, I can become an extraordinary register diagnostic medical sonography and provide life changes news to my patients about their pregnancy, etc. I'm planning to work in the ob-gyn department - Congratulations Kristy upon becoming an RDMS, that's an inspiring accomplishment that you have established. You inspiring me :)! I'm very proud of you!
I love this video it brought back memories of school, I been in the field for almost 6yrs and still loving it. Also the great friends u make during school can also be an ear for job openings in the future..to this day me and my classmates will let each other know about open positions in the area where we work.
This is what I wanna do for my career đđ» yes more videos like this please , itâs my first year of college and I donât know where to start
Very lovely congrats on the win and nice vlogs/honesty!
Hi Kristy I just wanted to start off saying that I Absolutely LOVVEEEDD!!! Your video it gave me so much insight into the world of being a sonographer and just let me know even more that Im making the right decision for me and kids I have two girls im nervous about doing it with two kids but watching your video gave me new confidence that I can do this
Thanks for making this video! I've been thinking about going to school for sonography and you've just solidified my decision!
I'm glad I can help! I may be making another video on this career schooling if more people are interested. Keep me updated on your journey!
This is the video I been looking for. I start my DMS program on July and I'am so nervous. I was thinking of doing nursing but I feel that, thats not my career. Thank you for showing us your day to day DMS life. I really needed this and now I feel confident. Thank you
I'm so excited for you! I'm glad I was able to help! Goodluck to you! Keep me updated please!
Iâm really glad i watched this ! Keep them coming
I'm a CNA and I am thinking about changing my whole nursing career and study DMS instead. Your video really helped me figure out what I really want to do. Yes its true, there will be stressful days but its worth it at the end. Plus its life lol we can't escape from it. Please make a part 2!
Oh wow! I was thinking bout CNA when I came out of high school but i wanted something less stressful. I will definitely will be making more videos like these if enough people enjoy it!
CNA 5 years, did all of my pre reqs. for nursing and switched to sonography last min. lol same pre reqs, but more money and less stress! I work in the hospital with nurses and am confident i made the right choice.
Oh wow. thats an awesome story. welcome to the field! I personally couldn't handle the amazing and stressful work nurses do. I applaud.
Iâm in the same boat as you lol. being a CNA is stressful!!
Dstany Harris The same thing happened with me. Going to go talk to an advisor next week :)
I would love more videos like this, vlogs of your college life. Iâm having a hard time trying to figure out what major I wanna pursue in. Iâm leaning towards more rad tech. Thanks for this video hope to see more!
Im currently in the cardiac sonography class. This is a great insight of what I will be doing once I get out there.
Hey Kristy! New subscriber here, Hi from Chicago ! đ Iâm so glad I found your channel Iâm applying to an ultrasound program this summer and Iâm so excited and nervous to start my sonograph program! I canât wait to watch more of your videos!
I loved your video!! I'm just about to start my bachelor of medical sonography and I'm beyond excited, you should definitely make more sonography related videos talking about your experiences :)
Aww! yay congrats!!! where do you go? hows the schooling going?
Priya Anand What can you do with your bachelors in sonography???
I'm really looking into this career!
I really enjoyed this video , thank you for sharing , now I can def add this to my list of what I may want to study . I have been on the other side ( in pregnancy and being a heart patient and I always watch and ask a ton of a questions ) I have always been interested in the medical field. Hope your career is going well . âĄâĄ
Omggggg, soooo happy for you , I do live in Md as well and currently taking classes at Mc too đźđźđź sooooo excited I found someone taking the exact same path Iâm planning on taking
Thanks for sharing! Great job a keep up the hard work!
This makes me so excited to be a sonography student
Currently taking pre reqs for Cardiac Sonography. Soooo excited
this is so great especially because its MC which is where I am looking to go!!! I wanted to have some insight on how it could be, your video was helpful and insightful
Keep me updated! I'm glad I can help!
Thank you for this! Im so excited to start classes this fall!
Yes of course! and You're starting in DMS??? how exciting?! where at and what speciality are you going to!
I'm a first year in the GVSU program and I LOVED your vid! I'm about to go to clinical for the first time in a few days and you're video made me feel a little less nervous about it :)
Good luck!!!! let me know how it goes. don't be afraid to ask to scan! trust me, show confidence in learning.
Kristy Le I am literally in your same shoes(well your old shoes I guess). I am a senior in high school right now, and I am stuck between studying early childhood education to be a kindergarten teacher or this, an ultrasound tech. My only problem with an ultrasound tech: I hate science :( and from my research, it looks like a ton of science classes are required...
Its not as scary as you think. If you've taken like anatomy and physiology, it is more like that. not much science science. give it a try!
It is actually going really, really well :) I'm learning so much and seeing a good variety of things! Hope your clinicals are going well too!
Yes of course :) Ask away!
Thank you for making this video. It is very helpful. I like how involved you are in the comments.
Love "Daylight" instrumental @ 2:38 â« â« Thank you
Iâm thinking about this career but Iâm always scared & not confident because I fear Iâll mess up in anything I do. I think I would enjoy this job & itâs great money. My fear is Iâll scan someone & miss something, especially in fetal scans, Which is very important to catch if something is abnormal.
This video was awesome!
Iâm definitely excited to start my new path đ
YAY!!!
Great, thank you. I'm considering changing careers and either doing the Diagnostic Medical Sono program or Cardiovascular Technologist. How are you liking your new career? Did you also work during your schooling? Was it easy to find a job and what state are you in? I'm in California now but will probably move to get into a program. Just doing research before deciding. Thanks for doing this video it's very helpful!
Iâm 17 years old, from Vietnam and have lived in LA for 2 years, Iâm learning English in high school, and interested in ultrasound. I hope I will succeed. Have a nice day!
I know you will!
2nd year sonography student here. She is so right! I am in school in North Carolina-USA and this is normal life. I just got home from clinical. My shift is 8-530. But I get in early and stay late and come in on Fridays too. Because you must get extra scan time in to be great. Its like playing an instrument. It takes practice. Good luck to all y'all who are in a program now.
Howâs it going now?
@@Juanita99 Its going GREAT! I work PRN (as needed) with two hospitals, one that also has an outpatient center. Theres a huge need for Sonographers in the US right now. Lots of Baby Boomers needing ultrasound.
.
.
.
hey kristy, i know this is SUPER late but iâm a senior and i recently came across this video on the net. I just want to ask , when you started off as a student sonographer , what were some of the expectations the institution you were at had of you? do they usually provide some sort of training before you were allowed to do scans on patients?
So inspiring!! Iâm almost able to start my clinicals , Iâm so excited but nervous too lol
good luck! keep me updated!
I will ! thank you so much
I saw this video like last year I wanna say and I'm now in the process of getting into the DMS program at MC! I'm finally finishing up my pre-requisites this fall semester and I need to study for the TEAS because I have to take it in January. How long did you study for the test? Any tips or advice for me? especially since we went to the same school! I'm so nervous I won't make it into the program
I know it was the Lord who told me to watch this video. Your video was so helpful thank you for sharing to the world!! I live in Michigan and I'm thinking about going for Sonography. I've always wanted to go into this field. I hope you make another video soon. Do you believe there are more pros than cons in the field? How much is the pay in your state?
Just got accepted to a sonography program after working as a pharmacy tech for the last 10 years. Your video definitely has me excited for things to come. Keep it up
Greg G hi Greg! Iâm also a pharmacy tech and Iâm now interested in getting into DMS! I hope it goes great for you!!
Barbara Reyna Thanks Barbara, itâs going to be a long road ahead , but Iâm excited for whatâs to come and definitely ready to leave the pharmacy life behind
Please do more videos regarding dms!!!
Do you know the actual cost of the whole program or an average number previous students paid? Also, what is the average starting pay for new grads working in hospitals or private clinics in your area, what state? I live in Oklahoma and a program director told me here new grads are getting offers of $24 to $26 hourly. Thanks for any reply
I would love to see an updated video with you being done with sonography school
ITS UP! UPDATED VIDEO OF WHERE IM AT NOW... im sorry if its too long lol
Thanks so much for the video I start school on Monday and I'm very nervous but it's comforting to know everyone is going through the same thing đ
How did it go?!
Kristy Le it was fantastic!! I'm almost a month in and things are really moving fast. Lots of anatomy and physiology and I'll be speaking fluent Greek and Latin in a couple years lol đ€Š
ohhh! it get even crazier, all these fancy words are in my vocabulary now. A&P is the base of ultrasound. keep up the good work! i am so glad that you are loving it!
I never really payed attention to any medical career I never liked the idea, i wanted to become a teacher or social worker but that doesn't interest me. Reading more about this career made me very interested in it your video was very helpful. I'm applying to go this fall, would i be successful in a medical career even thought it never interested me as much as it does now and changing my mind from teacher to this what worries me is what if I take my prerequisites and not be accepted to the program :/
Oh girl! lemme tell you bout my life and how I made my decision. I was on the same boat. I wanted to be a early education teacher my whole life, I love kids , I love teaching but my thought was I wasn't going to make money. And me as wel,l medical wasn't for me, I thought it sounded too hard. But thats where the money is right? so i thought bout nursing, I said no thats a lot of work. my mom was a midwife so I was like hmm i like kids, what about babies, then I was like nah too much schooling and stress. Then I thought of hmm whats the middle man, and I found Ultrasound! and it just clicked with me. Boom, I found what I wanted. Even when i was applying I was hesitant on oh should I be a teacher. But now i don't regret it. If you are second guessing teaching, dont do it. don't doubt yourself from medical because its hard. Any career is hard, but if you test out the prerequisites (anatomy, physics) it will give you a idea of what to expect with schooling. You can't control if you get in, BUT you can't know until you find out. And lets say you dont get in, have options that will go hand and hand with your prerequisites like radiology, medical assistant... etc. then try again for ultrasound. its never a "waste of time" if you dont get in. :)
Kristy Le I was sure of doing this but everyone that's in college is telling me it's very difficult to get in and that it's very strict so it made me second guess & also that many people after studying this can't find a good full time
Job I'm so stressed about college and I still don't even start :(
I'm in the same situation rn I was going to college for social worker but heard it's very stressful Job and you don't get good income so I dropped out and have been looking into ultrasound cus it's short and pays well. Did you end up trying it?
miss.silvya omg social work was always in the back of my mind as well but I heard the same thing and decided to look for something better. Everyone keeps telling me how hard it is to get in which made me overthink now I'm super stressed of what I want to major in... I've been doing tons of research and still can't find anything perfect for me
It is a very competitive program but most students get offered a job at their clinicals. so it isn't too hard. Especially since there aren't many people exposed to this field... its a good career to get into.
Question: do you learn to take vitals or perform vitals on patients at all?
I really enjoyed this!
Would you consider the job fun/interesting? I'm a senior in high school and am thinking about going into this field, but I want to do OB/GYN sonography.
i love this field of work. I actually wanted to go into OB/GYN because duh who wouldn't wanna scan babies, but this job is a lot more than just scanning babies, you'll start to appreciate the human anatomy a lot more after scanning everything. I would think this is a fun and interesting job. You get to see so many anatomy anomalies in the world that you would never expect. It's a field of work where you can never get bored!
Finally I found A video, what I am majoring in I start my major fall 21
Hi kristy! Your videos are so interesting, Iâm super interested in trying for a DMS program in my area but Iâm nervous to. I was also an early childhood ed major, then switched to social work, now Iâm interested in this field! Iâm only nervous because Iâm not necessarily the greatest at math/science/physics... would you say itâs pretty important to be good at those things going in? Or do you think someone could adapt and learn along the way? Iâm not terrible at them.. i just definitely take a little extra time to understand things than others i guess id say!
math isn't a priority. you'd need to be successful in anatomy and physiology and physics s involved but not the typical physics. its called ultrasound physics
HiïŒKristy~~ thanks for ur video! I have a question : which program is harder to learn, cardiac sonography or the general sonography? Iâm considering to take one of them, still havenât make the decision. Thank you
Just subscribed !! âșïž hope I can learn more about this career âđ»
Hey đ I have been hearing many different things about the risk of injuries that ultrasound techs commonly have from different types of movements. I am a preschool teacher so I am constantly bending over stooping down, my back is killing me. I understand that can be the case with some fast paced jobs. ultrasound techs may have wrist/ shoulder injuries from constant movements etc. still i am interested a lot was wondering what advice do you have for that Is this something that can be prevented easily or is it a con of the career field? Nice video â€ïž
Gives me nostalgic memories of being a student... ahh the good old days haha
good luck with your studies!
Aww thank you! Any advice?
If I could go back and tell myself something, I would say this: The learning curve is very steep (especially for scanning skills and techniques) and try not to over-stress if you feel you just aren't getting it, we were all in that same boat :) Even now (7 months post grad and working) I still have so much to learn! Basically never forget it takes time and have patience if you feel stuck or like you're not developing abilities fast enough, it will come with time and you will be alright!
YAS GIRL!!!! Great vid ily
Should I get PC or Mac? I thought maybe some of the programs are more compatible with certain type of computer
Thank you for Sharing all this!! I love u!!! Lol
đđđđ
Hi Kristy, I'm not starting my program until next Spring (2020), so can I still reading the book in advance or is it any recommendations for a freshman ?
hi, maybe refreshing on your basic anatomy would be good. reading ultrasound books may just confuse you starting out b/c you dont know the ultrasound language yet. brush up on anatomy!
This was a good video! I really enjoyed it and it really gave me good insight on the job
hi, iâm entering senior year this fall and deep down, i still do not know what i want to pursue as my career. iâve always been interested in the health field but i ask myself if iâm smart enough:/ or if iâll be happy with what iâm doing in the next 10 years. however every field will have its hardships along the way. anyways..itâs kinda too late for me to change my classes for the upcoming year, but the classes that iâm taking that are science related are clinical health (career based), anatomy with physiology, and idk if this helps with the career or not, but iâm taking psychology as well. if you have any advice for me, as in what kind of college did you go to, do you regret anything, are you happy with what youâre doing, etc:) please help me out.. i really need itđł. thank you
Hi! I know this video is a little older but Iâm doing my pre-reqs for my ultrasound tech program. I was wondering if you work with any blood or needles?
no blood or needles. the most blood you will get exposed to is any post surgery exams or with bleeding women coming in for transvaginals. you do not need to touch it at all. needles would be maybe assisting in an amniocentesis or paracentesis or a biopsy. you directly will not be using the needle. just guiding the needle.
hey, how does your coursework as a sonography student compare to the STEM prerequisite undergrad courses that you had to take? Did you think the undergrad courses were harder, easier, or about the same as what you're doing now (or just completely different)? Also, thanks for answering all these people's questions, it's really awesome and super helpful for me to see a video like this. :)
Hi! the course load for perquisites were pretty challenging to me. mostly just anatomy and physiology. i found that difficult. and physics was a little. but nothing super hard. i actually almost failed a&p and was scared it would pull me back but it didn't. i would say in any program, your workload is going to get harder. but hard in a good way because it is actually helping you learn knowledge in your career. theres definitely a lot more studying i had to do now compared to before
Thank you!
This video helps so much, like many of the other people commenting on your video, Iâm super indecisive, but I want to work in healthcare, and with children (not teaching wise) but thereâs sooooo many options in health care, but this video does help, I just want what I choose to be worth it later on in my life.
take your time when deciding. do a lot a lot of research as well
Kristy Le Iâve decided to volunteer at our hospital for 30 hours to see all of my options in the medical field, and Iâve set up time to job shadow a sonographer so I think Iâm set :)
Sabina love the idea ! Keep me updated !!
Kristy Le will do! I hope you have another video coming soon, genuinely enjoy all your videos đ
Sabina thank you!! Imma upload a video this weekend! Appreciate the love
Is there anyway I can only specialize in ultrasounds for babies? Or would it be a wide range? Thanks
i had that machine done on to me cus of my cousin needed more practice as a sonography student.. it was so cool... she kept saying my organs were small... lol
Hi Kristy! I am currently interested in becoming a Sonographer however, I didn't have a competitive GPA or ATAR to get into Bachelor of Medical Radiation in Australia, so therefore I got accepted to Bachelor of Nursing. I am not very keen on Nursing but I was thinking if I were to complete Nursing which doesn't really study the fields of physics, physiology or pathology, would I still be able to become a Sonographer? .... I'm not a fan of mathemetics and I know that physics involve abit of that. But I'm just scared that since I am new to the field ... I won't be competent enough to study for it ....
As a Sonographer, once you've finished school and found a job is there any instances where you have to take work home?
I actually go to montgomery college but in germantown! lol . Currently in my 3rd year and as a business major, and I was going into accounting. After actually taking the accounting courses I'm starting to realize I don't think I can do this everyday for the rest of my life. But one thing I have always wanted to do was something within a hospital or just working with health care. I was actually registered as nursing major when I went to school but realized it was way too hard for me. But I've just not starting do research on sonography and I'm really interested in it. Only thing is that I'm already almost finished with my business major, I don't know if switching right now would be the best choice. Im turning 21 in a couple months and it kind of puts me down thinking about how I'm going to be here for longer.
Help Me !! :/, did you like the program? since I will most likely being go to MC in rockville for this haha, help me decide!
this program is only offers at the takoma park. silver spring campus! so id say my honest6 opinion is to finish your bachelor since tour so close. but unless you really dislike it, then leave and start again. the time won't feel too long if you truly like it!
Please please please make a whole video on the requirements for this job talk about everything you need from start to end and say everything you have had to do Iâm about to graduate from high school and I want to immediately jump into this flied but I donât know where to start
Coming soon! :)
Hey Kristy ! I'm going to MC this fall! I always wanted to be a nurse but I then decided that it was going to be very difficult. Right now I have no idea what I want to do as a career but I've been thinking about Sonography because it looks like a good job. Is the Sonography at Mc a good program? Your video really helped me see what you guys do. Thanks :) I hope I can make it in the program next year.
Aww good luck! a lot of people go into nursing. its a field whether you like it or you dont. it was never my cup of tea. we do have a good program. it is a bit unorganized but it gets the learning job done.hope to see you apply!
This was VERY helpful!! And I really canât wait to be a Sonographer!!!
glad you loved it! good luck to you!
Kristy Le thank u so much!
This was so cute ! Good luck!!
:) thanks!!
Cool stuff.
Im a registerd ultrasound tech with 6years of experiece, nice school good luck in the field
Jane estefan how difficult is it to find a job once you graduate? Or in the field in general? Iâve heard the field has too many applicants and too little jobs?
Is sonography program accredit by Council on Occupational Education count as accredit? Am I allow to take ardms exam by not accredit by caahep? I see most of them are accredit for caahep for ardms.
Thinking about doing this or respiratory therapy, and definitely going to do a 4 year program for both, and im trying to decide if i want to do multi specialty or have my specialty be cardiovascular in sonography
thats so funny cuz I was on the same boat. I was thinking between ultrasound and respiratory. I ended with ultrasound and I love it. The specialities were hard too. I remember I was torn between general and cardio... I was so close to switching to echocardio because I love the heart and how it works. But tbh if you are a general sonographer. you learn echo and vascular no matter what. you can always branch into all specialities and get certified in both. most general sonographers do.
Iâm so down for this but girl I literally suck at math. Iâve been in iep classes pretty much all the way throughout my school years and teachers were always frustrated w me and would literally tell me to just use my calculator and not teach me. Iâm pretty embarrassed about this and honestly donât know how to do math like multiplication and division. đđ Would I still be able too do this job and would I get help/understanding that Iâm not good with math and have been in iep classes?
Iâm currently in a MA program, and Iâm trying to figure out if I should go back to community college and go for the associates degree in ultrasound, or go right into a technical school and start the 2 year ultrasound program right away with no pre reqs. I have about 1-2 yes or pre reqs left!
Its whatever you feel works best! Im at CC and it works well for me. we dont have technical schools around me. i would though if i could
I went to a technical school for MA and I never worked in that career because the pay isn't good. So, now I'm going into the DMS program because I find Sonography interesting and the pay is awesome! Check out DMS salaries on Indeed.com and you'll see that going into the DMS program is a great choice!
If you want to specialize in Muskoloskeletal Sonography, do you still have to do Sonography of all other bodyparts (blood vessels and organs, ect ect) during your schooling?
I believe so. I think you go through schooling as a General Diagnostic Medicial Sonography which includes all those organs, then you can specialize in MSK
Great video!!!
Great video thank you âșïž
Iâm thinking about going going into the sonography program, is it extremely difficult?
My stepdad was a doctor and mom is an RN, they would scare me with all the patient horror stories so I decided against going into the medical field. However, Sonography looks like something I would be interested in, what are some of the issues you have to face, if you donât mind me asking? Thank you:)
being in the medical field is a hit or miss for people really. a lot of people dont like rude mean patients but you can't avoid them all ! so can't do much about that. i personally do not have any complaints about sonography. i feel like it is a very less invasive medical field which i like b/c personalally i couldn't deal with full on touching wounds and stuff like a nurse. so thats a plus
I loved this video! It was helpful!! I would love to learn more about your experience since you filmed this. :) Your knowledge and thoughts! If there is some way we can keep in touch and are willing to film more videos like this or just keep in touch one on one it would be awesome! I've been getting interested in this field and been beginning to do research on it! I was in the Education path of a career but I am now looking into this career. :) I'll be subscribing for sure after I send this comment! haha
omg! yay! yes keep me updated. keep me in touch with everything pleas!!! new videos are coming. school is just busy. obviously lol
Thanks for making this! I have been researching this field and I'm very interested. How much math is involved in your study? I know physics is important.
no math. just ultrasound physics! the most math you'd do is unit conversion
What stresses you out and please reply because I'm undecided on wether to go the speech pathology field or ultrasound , I use to be a medical assistant and I didn't like it much.
i actually have a friend in speech and im ultrasound. the most stressful thing is learning all of the pathologies and getting tough patients to scan due to patient behavior or body habits. but it challenges you. if you like the field, it won't be a hassle , just a challenge
Omg I want to be a sonographer now!!!
I read that its only a few places you have to get licensed in but the job only requires 2 years of schooling then you can just get the certificate from the program.....so is it required that you be licensed ?
I am from Maryland, we do not require a license. Just a certification. Most states dont require license. There is no harm in ultrasound
I'm getting my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology next fall and walking in May, I'm thinking of career choices and one of my professors in health psych had mentioned a career in Sonography. I know it's more school but I think I may be interested in it as a path even though it's not that much related to psych it's still health
thats an interesting switch. they re completely different careers. not related at all. if you are interest you should. but the course load is going to be a lot harder and different compared to psychology
congrats on graduating ! :)
Hello. Thank you for this video. I live in PG, MD and I was intrested in going to school for DMS, but PGCC dont offer the program. I called MCCC, and they told me I can take my prequisites at PGCC and transfer over to MCCC once completed. I'm nervous about going back. I'm 25 with a 2 year almost 3 year old baby. I'm just trying to figure out how will I balance everything. Also, I'm not that great at math :( so that's one thing that discourages me. Any advice on how to go about getting better at math? I would love to go full time, but that's another ball game.
Hey! i am from PG too! yeah they dont offer DMS at many places. thats why im at MC. I actuallytook my prerequisites at AACC and it was able to transfer over to MC. At the time of my preq, I was a full time nanny for my nephews, so it is possible. (5 yo and new born) its possible, just a lot of work. Math isn't a big factor in this program. you will need to know some physics b/c we talk ultrasound physics and is a prerequisite. With math, there is always an answer, just like physics, if it makes sense. I wish all the luck to you!:)
OMG I'm so nervous! I'm from Argentina and I moved to America a year ago and I got into collage to be a sonography student and I'm scared because of the language!
Hi kristy im currently looking into going to school to become a rad tech, is it any different from being an ultrasound technician and is it something that i can work up to
rad tech and sonography are completely different imaging modality. i had a friend in the field who waS actually a rad tech and came to the program,. he didn't like it as much as rad tech. but we use different technology and imaging. you can def work up to going into it if you wanna broaden your learning! i think it'd be awesome
hi. so i was wondering if you had to take general ed classes prior to this program. i only have a high school diploma so i don't know where to get started. I hope you will help me or do a video that talks about the basics on how to get started. i would really appreciate it. thank you :)
Yes. I had to take my general education course prior.. etc english math bio.. those are prerequisites to take the required course such as anatomy and physiology
Needed this video
Hi I have a question. Is there a lot of math involved
Are there any entrance exams that you had to take to get into the DMS program at your school? I wasn't sure if it varied for each school. I am currently looking at different schools in my state and have noticed it can be competitive to get in because they take a limited amount of students.
at my school we had to take the TEAS test for any health science program
It does vary depending on where you are, I am in Texas and I am applying in may and we do not have to take any entrance exams, the hard part is getting in because it is a very competitive field, they only accept 16 in my school
Do you have to get license renewed every year?
Thanks for sharing! new subbie
Hi! Awesome vid! Can I ask you how school is going ?
Iâm currently a MA working in a hospital. Going to college taking my prerequisites and am interested in sonography. Your answer would be appreciated! Best of luck
omg school is insane! clinical 4 days a week 8.5-10 hour days! but i truly love it. hows yours?!
whats the most stress full thing about this job
Great video! IVe been looking for videos like these! Im hoping to get in the DMS program this fall. My school only accepts 12 students for it and im super nervous!
Don't be nervous ! My program accepts 18 students in the general track, but I made it! I was a nervous wreck. Good luck to you!
Kristy Le thank you! Good luck to you too!
Its a lot of hard work, so be prepared for that. Not much free time when it comes to this schooling. It is no joke. But it is worth it at the end if you love the work! Don't get discouraged!
If you'd like to hear more, I'm thinking about making more vlogs about my actual journey through schooling like giving advice and explain my process of applying etc. Let me know if that's something you'd be interested in!
Kristy Le I recently changed my major to this end of my first year of college. Switched schools which was hard for me. But im so excited to see what the future holds! This past August I had to get an ultrasound and the Lady who did it was so nice and told me she went to the same school and gave me a few tips on who to talk to that my advisor didnt know! But it was really amazing to see it all in action too!
But im definetly interested in hearing more about it! I subbed! :)
starting to look into the field of sonography! would love to hear more from someone whos been through it all.
I am so excited to start
yay! when do you start. keep me updated
I've noticed a strong portion of female techs in this field, is that because of lack of male applications or is it some other reason?
I'm actually unsure on why there are more females. Tbh, I think it's because when people think sonography, they think just scanning babies, and oddly guys don't spark an interest in it. Thisfield of work is so much more than that! There are actually 2 other males my track (general track) and a bunch of males in our ECHO and Vascular track of sonography. Theres so many things you can do with DMS. Theres not gender specific tasks or cons in this fields. Males should def apply to this program!
@HateGovernment So is it difficult for men to get hired? What about the discrimination law against sex?
Hii, can you make more videos like this? Thanks
What song is in the video? I love it!!
I love my job I have been an General/Vascular Sonographer since 2007 and it was what I wanted to be since I was 9 years old. How has it been for you? What are your favorite scans? Mine are Abdominal and Lower Extremetriesđ€đ€
ah that is awesome! ive probably wanted to be a sonographer since forever. i absolutley love it! im in high risk ob right now! so ob are my fav exams!
