    If Rivian is listening I love the idea of the charge port being on the passenger side for street charging, but PLEASE move it to the front, that makes it work with current superchargers and when towing 👍

    • @AnonymousFreakYT
      @AnonymousFreakYT Před měsícem +11

      Yes this. I know they said they put it in back for cost savings (on the single-motor versions, all HV is in the rear, so they save on HV wiring cost keeping the charge port in the back.) But front just makes sense for towing. Especially with the current setup of Rivian Adventure Network towing stalls!

      @@AnonymousFreakYT Front passenger corner is a great idea. Rivian should standardize this across the lineup.

      I believe street parking is 220/240 volts AC, so proximity to the car’s converter is important. However, Rivian also needs to think about its potential markets, as well as cost of repair in the event of a front-end collision. The R2 has good potential in the UK, Australia, NZ etc, so if front quarter panels are designed for NACS and CCS2 in Left and Right Hand Drive Markets, they should do well. Either way, the charge points need to be designed for CCS2 outside of North America, even if they are configured for NACS-side charging. So front right seems to be the best option all round, if towing is considered.

    • @Alex-je6od
      @Alex-je6od Před měsícem +9

      Nah. Just put a port on both sides of the back. Solves pretty much every issue with charger placement, and doesn't contribute significantly to costs.

      What did you think about the port location? Do you want to carry around a bulky extension that can be lost or stolen just to charge on the largest network on the planet that consists of V3's with short cables? And will still be the case for many years to come? Or would you like it to be moved to the proper driver's side rear?

      Back left is stupid. Front passenger is the way. Head in charging with a bike rack/trailer works. Curbside charging is way better. Front keeps cord more out of the way for passengers getting in and out. Frunk is ideal location to store adapters etc while those are still necessary. Still compatible with supercharger network and it's incredibly short sighted short cables.
      Speaking of cables, you can't carry around an extension for a liquid cooled cord.

      @nevco8774 definitely true that Fisker and Lucid look nicer. The problem is that Fisker is already on its way out the door with production difficulties and lack of money. Lucid, like Tesla in the past, is burning through cash due to cost of manufacturing and only being propped up by their Arabian partners. Saving time in manufacturing saves money, which is what Tesla is doing at the moment. Remember, $45k is the starting price for the most basic version / trim. So that minimally means only 1 motor in the rear, so no sub-3 second to 60mph, smallest battery pack which means less than 300 mi range, and whatever other feature they decide on to be an option. Bottom line, just with any new vehicle, one has to cut thru all the sales/marketing hype and be realistic on what they will include vs option and what you want/need included in the vehicle. E.g. I don't care about sub-3 sec to 60mph, but I do care about range and AWD because I live in the north where we get snow, so RWD is off the table. What would those few requirements translate to? Certainly more than $45k as Kyle alluded to in the video. So if you adjust your expectations and factor in those costs, whatever they happen to come out to be, you lessen your disappointment to even paying what you factored in.... beyond $45k.

    I'm so excited for the R2. I followed the R1S all the way up to its release, genuinely believing I would be driving one as soon as there was a delivery available for me. Then they announced the price, and I was soul-crushed. I've driven Jeep Grand Cherokee sized SUVs my whole life. They fit me and my lifestyle perfectly. Sadly, the R1S doesn't fit my bank account, so I had to be satisfied just owning stock in the company. I placed my deposit on the R2 within the first couple of minutes of the unveiling. I WILL be driving one as soon as they have a delivery available for me.
    In the video, you asked what we'd like to see added to/changed about the R2 and that Rivian would be paying attention to the feedback. I'm also a dog person, so on top of the suggestion of B pillar or rear seat roof line vents, I'd love to see that back window have the ability to be opened partially, not just fully up or fully down. My dogs 100% would leap out that rear window at the first sight of a squirrel or deer. Or another dog or person, or whatever they felt they just HAD to go say hello to. It's great the rear windows pop out, but to have those out AND the rear window open enough for their heads to stick out (but not their whole bodies)....well, that's just dog heaven.
    I'm excited for the R2, and I'm excited for Rivian as well. They're knocking it out of the park with their entire lineup, and I can't wait to see them turn their first profits and find long term success as a manufacturer.

    1. Digital rearview mirror instead of a conventional one as it significantly improves visibility.
    2. B-pillar and center console air vents with a separate screen in the rear center console for tri-zone climate control. B-pillar vents are not only necessary for dogs but also for humans as center console air vents alone are ineffective.

  • @ZebHallock
    @ZebHallock Před měsícem +3

    If they leave the charge port location in an incompatible position it will cause Rivian owners to have issues with the obvious, charging when a supercharger is half full or more becomes problematic, and the less obvious nightmare scenario. When supercharger reaches congestions, a Rivian owner will be forced to take an open spot and wait for the adjacent spot to finish. No fault of the Rivian owner as they would not be able to charge if they don't block off a spot. The issue being the next vehicle in line to charge with a compatible port location is now blocked by a Rivian not charging and just holding the spot. The Rivian owner will be staying with the vehicle to plug in as soon as the adjacent car is done. With other EVs with compatible port location facing them that are waiting to charge, it's going to be a very uncomfortable situation that could easily be prevented with a sliver of common sense.
