- The valve covers drip oil onto the muffler, resulting in all kinds of smoke and burning. This common oil leak can be rectified with a new valve cover and gasket, an easy 10-minute job. I will show you how. Please comment, subscribe, and give me a thumb in your choice of direction. Thanks for watching.

Helpful video if your valve covers/gaskets are a source of leaking. My $0.25 worth of comment is that I would clean as much of the dirt away from the rocker cover and head interface as reasonably possible before removing the cover. And I would try using a solvent and plastic scraper to remove any residue of the old gasket/ring rather than using any sandpaper where grit may get into the engine.
The correct part number for the o-ring is 11061-2182, not 11081-2182. Thanks for posting the helpful video.
Thank you, Mr. Historian, for the note and careful correction! I appreciate it.
Great video, very helpful
Thanks for the video tutorial, it’s exactly what I needed to save a few $$
Thanks, Darrin.
Very informative thank you
A couple recommendations here, the aluminum valve cover and flat gasket for the 400 series works on the 611 Kawasaki. You can also just use the gasket, and a new plastic cover, with the flat one for better sealing. Also, check and adjust the valve clearance while you have the covers off.
Thank you, Doug.
Thanks for the video! Glad mine on my lx 188 wasnt a serious problem!
Thank you for enjoying th video.
Nice video
put an aluminum cover on, from a 4xx series tractor. it'll never warp like the plastic cover does. works for my GX345
Great tip. Thank you!
My JD LX 188 has been smoking for the past yr, and it appears to be from oil burning off of the exhaust. I was about to bring it to a repair shop because I can't see where the oil is coming from. After watching your video I'm going to try changing this gasket first. It looks easy, and inexpensive.
Good luck, Mike! Thanks for the note.
Thanks👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
By chance, do you have a video for a coolant flush for this engine?
I think you could get by just cutting out from a sheet of thick gasket material tracing out the outline of the cover and cut out a gasket. Smear a thin coat of oil on the valve casing and press the gasket material against it which will leave a perfect impression to cut a new gasket. Fill the gasket track of the old gasket with a bead of silicone gasket sealer in the groove. The thick flat gasket should seal it and the silicone will take up any possible avenues of leakage. A couple of dollars remedy instead of spending all that money on a gasket and new cover that will likely begin leaking at some point in the future.
Easier to smear a thin coat of oil on the valve cover sealing surface and trace it out. The best way since you can lay the gasket material on a flat surface and press the valve cover down on it leaving an impression to cut out.
Thank you. I appreciate the tip!
Are these engines on the zero turn Ztrac's? - thanks, take care.
What did you smear on the gasket before you bolted it on the engine?
I probably moistened it with a little motor oil.
Did you drain the oil first?
Not necessary. You may get a little oil that spills out, but nothing major....
Did the repair work? No smoke?
Yes, it absolutely worked. It may not last forever, however, as these engines are famous for gasket leaks at the valve covers.
@@Buckwsr Does this kit work for the John Deere F725 ?
