- My 2008 Chevy Trailblazer had no brake lights!
It was strange, the Center High mounted light worked. The brake lights, did not.
Turned out to be an easy fix. So, here's what I did to fix them.
Hopefully this helps...

Thank you for this video! Mine was the passenger side circuit board. Thanks to you, the brake lights on my 2003 Chevy Trailblazer EXT now work again and I can pass inspection this week, which will allow us to go pick up my Mom across the state for Christmas so that she isn't alone. Not only was your video easy to follow, but you also took what can be a stressful situation for many people and made everything much better with your humor and overall likeable personality. This is one of the most valuable videos I have ever seen on CZcams. Merry Christmas!
EDIT- For anyone who can't find the piece of cloth to pull out your drivers side middle seat to find your fuse box, you may have a version without it and instead you will use the black plastic recline mechanism like you would on the passenger side seat.
Thanks for letting me know! I appreciate it. I’m glad you Mom won’t be alone. 😉 Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
What a great dad. The world needs more like you
Thank you a thousand times over.
I got stopped after work like a day or two ago, cop was a real sweetheart, just told me I didn’t have ANY lights except the center brake light. Found out today that for me it’s both circuit boards & 5 of the 6 lights were affected. (cause my passenger REVERSE LIGHT WORKS)
You’re Welcome! I appreciate the comment and letting me know!
This procedure does the job! My 2002 Trailblazer had these symptoms, and it turned out that a body shop had replaced the taillight sockets and circuit board assembly with a non-OEM part that failed. But there's more! A few months earlier, the cruise control had stopped working, as had the "GM Oil Life Sensor" that is reset by depressing the brake pedal three times after an oil change. Replacing these boards fixed all three of the problems - brake lights returned, cruise control returned, and oil life sensor reset confirmed. Three problems fixed for $30!!!
Dude!!!!!!! I don't know you and you don't know me..... BUT THIS HERE VIDEO SAVED ME SOME TIME AND A WHOLE LOT OF CASH.
I couldn't figure out the problem. I was going to take my truck to an electrician. That was going to be sooooooooooo expensive. But you saved me. Thank God for you sir!!!!!! Have a blessed day.
+edumup Very NIce! Thanks for letting me know! Glad this helped. :)
Thank you again, I checked my lights this morning and both brake bulbs were lightly melted on the base. I had already checked the bulbs ( I thought) and saw no problem. After watching your video, I went back and found the problem immediately. I went to the parts house and picked up two new circuit boards for $16.00 each, now I have two working brake lights again. You saved me probably $150. or more, by being able to do it myself. I appreciate you taking time to help others !!
Yay! Glad to hear it. Thanks for letting me know. :)
Broooooo! You rock. My sis and I were dying. You're so hilarious.
Got that tail light changed too.
Love it man. Sounds like a true mechanic! " Hardest part is remembering were you put the screws."😂😂
Thanks for being conversational and affable and saying things like, "pushy thing" and "get the screw you dropped on the ground." This matches my experience and skill level very well. I call pliers "squeezers" so we would probably get along. this was actually very helpful
Just picked up a '09 Envoy SLT for work car. I really appreciate your "quick Fixes". Also enjoy your narration. God Bless.
Your lovely lady is very lucky! I just had an oil change for my 2004, and discovered it is having this exact problem. Very very helpful... Thank you.👍
Same problem on my 2002 Trailblazer. Watched and followed your instructions. It was my bulbs. Thanks 👍👍👍
Incredibly helpful....I wish more CZcams videos were like this one....
Thanks! Very direct and TO THE POINT...the way these "instructional" videos ought to be. Saved me a LOT of money in fixing my brake lights. (Enjoyed the humor, as well!)
Lapeer Charlie Very Nice! Thanks for comment 👍
Thank you very much! With your excellent guidance I was able to diagnose and repair my brake light. I’m pretty impressed with myself but could not have done it without your video!
Jennifer Aucoin Very Nice! Glad it worked! Good Job 👍😉
Fixed car problem this morning. 2004 Trailblazer both fuses were good but on circuit board both top lights (which you explained were brake lights) were fry’d causing bad bulbs and I guess damaging both boards. Got replacement boards, 1 from Autozone and 1 from Oreilly like you said who sold them. Everything works great now. Thanks Again for all of your help and well explained video.
Thanks for this very entertaining, yet informative video!! You not only helped me save time and money at an auto shop, you also gave me a good laugh! Thanks again!!
+Aryra Bookert You're Welcome and thanks for leaving me a comment! :)
i thought exactly the same. love this guy's sense of humour. :)
Hey thanks for the video! Helped a lot! This works on the 2002 Trailblazer as well if anyone is wondering!
Thank you! You saved us a lot of time, frustration, and money with our
2005 Trailblazer EXT. 2 new circuit boards fixed everything right up. :)
Excellent! Thanks for letting me know :)
Thanks just bought a trailblazer and the brake lights wasnt working and thanks to you i fixed it in 2 minutes.
A polite and considerate guy in another lane rolled his window down and told me my left brake light was not working. First I will verify such, and second, thank you for this video, and third, go get a new bulb set. This way i can have a few spares.
I have same problem with 2009 Chevy Equinox, alas, this isn't the solution for me as mine doesn't have the circuit boards on each side. Woe is me, what to do? I like this guy's sense of humor and delivery. By having prepped for video it was concise and to the point unlike some others in which we have to wait actual complete (boring) time. Good job, Cheap Geek; thank you.
+Jay Mandelker Thanks for the awesome comment. Wished the video would've been more help to you. :)
Thank you. I subbed just because of this video. My circuit boards blew was lost after the fuses were fine. I appreciate you taking the time to make and post this video.
Thanks! I appreciate your comment and Sub! 😉👍
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Even though all of my fuses were fine, and my bulbs were not blown, both tail light assemblies had a tint of brown scorching around the brake light sockets. I replaced both bulbs and my tail lights work, but I went ahead and ordered two new tail light assemblies (part number 16532713 Tail Lamp Circuit Board) and spare bulbs.
I'm glad they work now. ;)
helped so much. checked all fuses in both boxes, and low and behold it was a burnt out bulb in each side. thx so much
cathleen wilbourn you’re welcome! I appreciate you letting me know :)😃
This saved me a BUNCH of mentally induced ball ache, much thanks! I guess I will be buying a new bulb housing this week..
Good! I hope it works for you! Let
Me know either way. Thanks for commenting:)
Thank you!!! My lights were out on the sides as well and so was the cruise control, but they’re both fixed now thanks to you! 😀😀
kalleman00 Excellent! Thanks for letting me know 😉
Awesome. I checked the fuse both box all good and replace the bulbs because it was old but never thought about the board itself. Will give it a try tomorrow.
Great help!! Thought it was a blown circuit board, but found out it was the fuse. Thanks so much for the great video!!
very nice! easy fix :)
Great video, because you took it from AtoZ...you provided ALL INFORMATION needed to know and kept it simple to boot...
Thanks! I appreciate it
Fantastic!!!! You really saved the day! Looking for more chevy videos. You did an excellent job, with great pointers and explanation. Proud lady that was allowed to repair my own vehicle...Thank you, thank you again!
EXCELLENT VIDEO. I had the fuse/circuit board combo issue as well. Since circuit board was old (probably original) i replaced it first without knowing it was the issue. It did have the melty thing going on so I figured something was jacked up anyway. ..Then replaced the fuee and we're back in business. Many thanks. Saved $$$ by not taking it in to service station.
Adam Davis Excellent! Glad it’s fixed 😉
So thankful for your video! It saved me a trip to a shop and most likely getting ripped off. I was able to fix it myself!!
Yay! Excellent! Thanks for letting me know!
Thanks for the no brake light fix. I traced it all the way back to the circuit ( and I could tell someone else had all ready done the same ) but I found you and the fix on utube. Thank You!
Excellent! Very glad it worked for you! Thanks for letting me know. :)
I just bought a 2002. It has the same light assembly. Only one side is out but this might work. As soon as it warms up I will try it. Either way, your video was awesome. informative and entertaining. Thanks for the info and laughs.
Thanks for sharing this video. I'm going to change everything out. The Circuit Board, The Bulbs & The Fuses. This is an easy fix I can do myself. My Trailblazer is an 02. Again THANK You
Let us know how it goes!
Thanx for the informative video. I am going to try finding out the problem on my Q7 now...
One of the best how to videos
This is the exact issue I have currently!! So happy I found this tutorial from ya , I'm at work now but can't wait to get home today and try this !!
Did it work?
@@CheapGeek 100% worked !! Pulled up the back seat and found the busted fuse, I bought entire new light assemblies thinking it might be the ballast that was causing it, Installed them and still didn't fix....then ran across your video lol 😂, really appreciate it !!
@@christophersmith2608 Very Nice!
Great Video and Personality. Thank You for Sharing
Awesome video, very helpful...I just hope this information can be applied to my beater of a 1999 Ford F-250 Super Duty. I have tried everything (to my standards and everything else except these things). I can actually feel my manhood shrinking right now for not being able to resolve it. Thanks for this, CZcams's DIY videos are super, just super!
nice video. i spent most of the day switching bulbs around before watching this.
come to find out it was a blown fuse. I now have both brake lights, but only one tail light. Thanks for getting me this far.i can at least drive it in the daytime now.
+stratton settle Very Nice! Glad it's getting better... :)
Thank you so much. You are a life and money saver. It was our tail light circuit board.
Excellent!
You are awesome for posting this!!! Thank you so much! Mine was the circuit board too. Since your video has had 46,000 views, this is obviously a common problem. You would think it would warrant a recall.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad it helped :) I do wish it was designed better....
Such a awesome video did a really good job on step by step thanks.
you help me tremendously. my brake lights worked but not my running light. it was in the same fuse box. thanks for the help with that fuse box under the seat
You’re Welcome, and I appreciate the comment!
Thanks for posting this video!
Recently had the exact same problem on my '05 Trailblazer with 156,000 miles. The top bulb on both rear lights was melted to the electrical panel and left/right rear fuses were blown. Purchased two new GM panels and installed die electric grease in all connections. Hoping the grease will help prevent the plastic bulb base from melting in the future.
It's been two weeks, and all is working well.
+Stanley Waggoner Excellent! :)
Great vid. Straight to it easy to understand walkthrough. On top of that pretty entertaining
Thanks for watching, I appreciate it 👍

awesome! I have a 2005 trailblazer and your video saved the day and probably a few hundred bucks. same exact problem. thanks so much!
GOOD! Glad to hear that :)
Amazing video! Very professional 🎉 although I tried all of these things and no luck. All of my bulbs are working, my only issue is that when I hit the brakes I get no brakelights. Going to have to check the brake pedal button next.
Thank you sir!!!
You could not have explained, and demonstrated, it better. I now have my brake lights back. 2006 Envoy Denali
Very Nice! 👍😉
Thank you so much! Tried all thecsteps..now i am happy braking and safe again!
Excellent!
Turns out this is the exact setup for my Isuzu Ascender. Thanks!
You’re Welcome
Thank you for this! Made life much easier for me this morning.
you're welcome! I appreciate the comment :)
I really appreciate your video it helped me so much!!😊
Good! Thanks for telling me, I appreciate it! :)
I have a 2002 with this exact problem. Thanks for the video, now I have something else to look at, after checking fuses and bulbs.
+PThumper361 Hope it helps :)
Hi Thanks for your video was helpful we are having the same problem with my 2003 Chevy Trailblazer we've replaced the fuses and also the circuit board on the driver side but we still don't have any lights when we're driving we have brake lights but no running tail lights do you have any ideas of what could be wrong ? We are stumped.
Yay! I can't wait to try this!
Thanks for this vid. It was a huge help!!!!
Many Thanks. I'm working 7 day work weeks and those darn brake lights. I had replaced bulbs twice and checked fuse under hood. Leave it to a automaker to put another box under the back seat. That was it. You may have saved my life.
Good! Glad you got it fixed! Thanks for letting me know. :)
Thanks CheepGeek, you helped me resolve the problem!!
Very Nice!
I just bough a used 03 chevy trail blazer i follow your videos they help me out a lot. I wanted to know my trailblazers horn isnt working and i can not located the fuze pannel for where its located to test it. Have you had any issues with your horn not working. Damn good video...it helped to fix my 08 Trail Blazer...Same problem with mine..
hussellman0123 devo Glad it worked 😎
Great video thanks for heads up
My man you are a godsend thank you so much and my 2002 Trailblazer also thank you!!😀
You’re Welcome!
Thanks for the vid!. Nothing like checking the center bulbs, no brake signal 12v. Until I saw your vid, the brake bulbs were on the top! WOW, I had the wife switching cars till I could find a schematic!!!, Oh, two bad bulbs!
fourthlayer You’re Welcome! Glad it’s fixed!
I swear this car will make you a mechanic with how many things go wrong with it..
Thanks you for this video! much appreciated.
Thanks much really helped me out. Enjoyed the video too!
Jim Clarke Thanks and thanks for watching!
Man thank you a lot this video saved me in the middle of the road thanks man
You’re Welcome! Thanks for commenting👍
I had to replace all 3 other things before I found your video. Thank you!
👍😉
God. Bless. YOU! now my trailblazer ss can pass the inspection 😎
Thank You! Glad you can pass inspection! 👍
Thanks it was the circuit board. Had it fixed less than ten minutes. Great video.
Very Nice! Thanks for letting me know and thanks for commenting! :)
I have a 2004 with the same issues. I watched this video and found that #12 fuse in the back and the passenger side circuit board bad. Replaced both and it's great! Thanks!
Yay! Another success. :) Glad it works now!
Excellent video!😂Had me laughing unexpectedly. Keep making videos!
Great video!
Yo this guy is great. Love the narration. Lol
You are awesome! My 07 blazer brake lights haven’t worked since I bought it from an auction. I asked a few male mechanics I know if they could tell me what I needed to do to fix this but all said it was probably a fuse in one of the three spots. Tonight I found your video n watched, did what you said and it wasn’t fuses. It was the brake light circuit board in mine also. Thanks again. This video was simple to follow n I did by myself. I appreciate that a lot.
Annette Cofer Very Nice! I’m glad YOU got it fixed! Good for you! Thanks for watching too :)
Thanks man, had to diagnose a lady friend's trail blazer last night off the first video I saw👍
You’re Welcome! I appreciate the comment 😉
Informative and funny! Thanks for being a good person! :-)
Thank you for this video. Identifying which light is the break light was very helpful. My chevy eats tail lights. I replace them probably three times a year. Maybe its the circuit board.
Might be worth replacing.. 😉
Thank you for this great tutorial! So simple even a girl can do it. Lol
Circuit board replaced as well as a blown bulb. All in under an hour! Thanks!
+Stephanie Henry Excellent! Glad it worked :)
You’re great. Now I know how to do things to my 08 trailblazer and know where the fuses are. Save me money. Thank you!
Oceana Hill You’re Welcome! I appreciate you watching 😉
CheapGeek you’re welcome ✊🏾
im having this same issue with my 04 chevy venture but i cant find a blown fuse but the bulbs keep getting blown out should i change the circut botd
Thanks my friend!!! It save me a lot of time and money...
So replacing the driver’s side circuit board fixed the passenger side as well or did you replace both driver and passenger side? Also what made you not check the brake light switch under the steering column? I was told if my fuses were good, I should then replace the brake light switch. Thanks for the video!!!
Thanks man I appreciate the video! Saved me some time
You're Welcome! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. I appreciate it :)
Thanks for the great video, my brake lights when out and i was having trouble getting them to come back on. Turns out it's that 15 amp fuse for me. But i will be looking for replacement circuits very soon.
Very nice!
Glad it was an easy fix.
Wondering if the fuse blew due to high resistance from the circuit board? Let me know if you ever find out. ✋
@@CheapGeek One of the lights was a little melted on one lead. I'll be watching for any more light troubles until i can grab a new circuit board. (2002 Tblazer)
@@karenwood6374 AUTOZONE and Advance Auto typically carry the circuit board for under $20.00.
I guess it’s a common problem.
Let me know how it goes. 💯
Thanks for the info👍👍
thank you sir because of this video I fix my drivers side rear lights and also the license plate was not working and this video helps me a lot it was just a simple 10A fuse I also what I did is use a multimeter to check continuity staring from the top of the fuse but it it was visible easy to spot thank you again :D
Very Nice! I'm glad it worked for you. :)
Thank you I had bo idea about the second fuse box very helpful video
You’re Welcome! Thanks for commenting 👍
THANKS BRO YOU SAVED ME A LOT OF BS!!!

Shalva Julukhadze you're welcome!
Dude u are the man thank you mine was the fuse

You’re amazing!!!!! Thank you for the info!

What's the purpose of the middle bulb I saw a Trailblazer tonight and it had the top and middle lights lit up
