  • Chevy Trailblazer no low beam headlight fix.
    So this is a an aggravating issue!
    No headlights or low beam lights but the high beams do work?
    This can be an easy fix. Replacing the HDM or headlight driver module is a common solution and easy to install.
    These cost about 30.00 off of Amazon or at your friendly local auto parts store.
    I bought mine off Amazon, primarily because shipping was faster.

    If your high beams work, you can swap the low and high beam HDMs in an emergency. They're the same part number. Great video!

      I swapped them, but it didnt help. But even with both off, the high beams still work. So they both might be broken, some people would have to replace both. Once i replace both, ill let you know.

I replaced headlight housing with aftermarket factory replacement housings about 6 months ago or so. I think it might be headlight socket but not for sure. Would like your opinion before I cut into wire harness. TY

    • @CheapGeek
      @CheapGeek  Před 2 lety +1

      If the high beams still work? I would think it may be the head light switch or both low beam filaments in the bulbs are blown. That seems less likely though.

  • @robbymurray2519
    @robbymurray2519 Před 7 lety

    is this the same for the 2009 Chevy Trailblazer?
    I was reading through the comments and should mention that we have already had the bulbs checked out and was told they did not need to be replaced. Do I need to check the fuses before spending time and effort and money on the HLDM?

    • @CheapGeek
      @CheapGeek  Před 7 lety +1

      Checking the fuses is a good thing to do. If both headlights are out. It's more than likely the HDM.
      Your headlights have 2 fuses, 1 for left and 1 for the right. It would be odd for both of those fuses to be bad (blown) at the same time. It's more than likely the HDM.. :)

  • @SarahSigot
    @SarahSigot Před 4 lety +1

    I have a question!! So I am obviously having this problem HOWEVER my low lights work on occasion (they will switch on and off randomly or come on sometimes and not others) do you think that is a greater issue than this simple fix? (Like a wiring problem?)

    Hey guys I figured it out! I'm not trying to be funny but because it appeared that both low beam headlights went out at the same time I thought it was an electronical issue but it wasn't the case all I did was change the low beam headlights bulbs. After countless hours and buying the wrong things it was just the bulbs. SMH...lol

  • @KevinHarveyBarratt

    I replaced the relay for the headlamps, and still no lights. I checked the fuses, and bulbs, all good. I guess the next thing is to check continuity on the wiring?

      @@CheapGeek To let you know how I made out... Yes, I checked the "Fog Lamp" Switch. I tried a new one and no luck. It turned out that both headlamp bulbs blew at the same time! When I originally pulled them out they looked fine. I refused to believe it was possible, but after swapping them both out, I have low beams again.

    Hi Geek. I have a lightely different Problem.. the whole right headlight-unit of my 2003 TB is out of Order.. No lowbeam no daydriving light no anything but highbeam.. left side is working well anyway.. do you have an Idea what it could be? I'm from Germany and parts are a really spare thing and mostely imported high expensive. Btw : thank you and all of you in the US for making these Tutorials!.. i allready fixed by myself my front wheelbarings, the speedometer steppers and did the hellrace with aftermarket-stereo.. thank you so so much for your vidz!! I forgot: fuses are OK and i allready changed the hdm with the next to look the Operation..

      @CheapGeek  Před 6 lety

      Mychael your high beam is a separate light bulb from your daytime light and headlight. Have you replaced the bulb yet? You also have a separate fuse for left and right headlights ;)

      @Todhwart Před 6 lety

      hiho.. i just looked for the Bulbs..
      actually low Beam AND Parkinglight bulbs are burned together. Thats really spare so i didnt believe that it could be the bulbs :/
      but now other Prob.. Parking bulb is burned deep black so i cant read the Type.. can you tell me pls what kind of Tyoe i need??
      again Thanx a lot!!

    If only my driver-side low beam won’t turn on (after replacing bulb and fuse), could the HDM still be the problem?

    • @CheapGeek
      @CheapGeek  Před 5 lety

      You checked all the fuses? You also checked the lights front and rear? I don't think its the HDM. It could be a relay.

    • @brianspencer3208
      @brianspencer3208 Před 5 lety

      CheapGeek yes, every other light works like it should. If not the HDM, which relay would I need to take a look at?

    • @CheapGeek
      @CheapGeek  Před 5 lety

      Brian Spencer there’s typically a fuse or relay for the left and right low beams. They can be separate. Checked the fuse box behind the middle back seat?

    • @brianspencer3208
      @brianspencer3208 Před 5 lety

      CheapGeek Yeah, I’ve replaced the fuses for both low beams and checked the bulbs using the passenger side headlight (both bulbs work). I’m starting to think it’s a wiring issue with the connector for the bulb. By the way, thank you for the replies and help.

    I need your help. On my 2008 Sierra Denali my low beams don't work. All the fuses work. I even switched that fuse/relay with my wife's Yukon. I'm out of ideas. Any other issues that could cause them to go out? Bulbs were changed too as a last resort.

      Did you ever figure out what was causing the issue? I am currently having this same issue. All fuses and relays are good, HDM is good. I have parklights, high beams, and turn signals. No low beams, I am going to try replacing the multifunction switch and see if that is the issue. Any additional input would be very helpful. Thanks!

    What does that little module do besides make your lights work? I mean what is the benefit of that little box besides generating profit when it burns out :)

    • @CheapGeek
      @CheapGeek  Před 8 lety +1

      +James Morrin The module is used in conjunction with the daytime running lights. It pulses the lights on and off really fast- in order to reduce the voltage to 6 volts without burning out the headlights. I think.... :)

    • @CheapGeek
      @CheapGeek  Před 8 lety +1

      +Matthew55904 It won't work. It's a head light driver module. It's a solid state module that as acts as a pulse modulated relay

    • @CheapGeek
      @CheapGeek  Před 8 lety

      Nope. Not a relay. It's about 20 nicks more than a relay :)

    Anyone have this issue? Troubleshooting options or suggestions welcome.
    2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer LTZ
    Driver’s side low-beam headlight issue over the last couple of years. Replaced bulb. Replaced fuse. Replaced solid state relay. All seemingly resolved the issue for a while. Using standard halogen bulbs for replacement.
    As it is now, every time the vehicle is started, the driver’s side headlight does not illuminate. Upon touching/pulling/inserting the fuse, the headlight illuminates. Once on it stays on until the vehicle is turned off. If I leave the headlights on, shut off the engine & then restart the engine the headlights are still functional (like when fueling at night).
    I tried replacing the solid state relay with automatic control again yesterday. No change in the performance of the headlight.
    My best guess is the port is going bad on the integrated fuse relay box, approximately a $1000 fix.
    Electrical issues can be expensive to troubleshoot. I’m really wanting full confidence that this is the issue before replacing the fuse relay box. Also, if anyone has done that themselves, please share that knowledge too.
    Thanks in advance
