  • Carbohydrate restriction is a key component of most dietary plans on how to lose weight. But all carbs are not the same. Some carbs should be severely restricted if you want to lose weight, but others are relatively benign. Dr Jason Fung discusses the different types of carbs for weight loss. 00:27 🥐 *Carbohydrates vary in types: refined, unrefined starchy, unrefined fibrous, and fruits. Their impact on weight loss differs significantly.*
02:58 🍩 *Refined carbohydrates like white flour, bread, pasta, cereals, and sugars cause rapid glucose spikes, insulin surges, and potential weight gain.*
04:51 🍰 *Added sugars in processed foods, high fructose corn syrup, and refined grains like white rice contribute to weight gain and insulin resistance.*
06:30 🥔 *Unrefined starchy carbohydrates like certain grains (rye, barley), root vegetables (potatoes, sweet potatoes), if consumed in moderation, offer fiber and can be better options than refined carbs.*
08:03 🍏 *Fruits contain fructose, but their fiber content makes overeating difficult. Berries are better options than sweeter fruits, which have been bred to be more sugary.*
09:52 🥦 *Non-starchy, fibrous vegetables (like leafy greens, legumes) are beneficial for weight loss due to their high fiber content, minimal impact on insulin, and ability to induce a feeling of fullness.*

There was no money for or shops selling processed food in the village. They ate alot of carbs but eveything they ate were either grown, caught or forraged by their very 2 hands.

I do Intermittent Fasting. It’s a system where you choose an eight hour period to do all your eating with, at least, about 4 hours minimum before bedtime. In other words you have to go to bed almost hungry. The results are incredible. Your body functions revert to what they were when you were young, testosterone levels shoot up and your system seems like it’s doing its own housekeeping, conserving tons of energy.

I always look forward to Dr. Fung dropping knowledge. This particular video reminded me of the teachings of another fellow physician, Dr. William Davis, who is famous for the “Wheat Belly” diet. His argument, the wheat of today is not the wheat our ancestors ate, which ties in to the point Dr. Fung made in the beginning of the video as to why we didn’t see the same issues with weight back in the day while eating some of the same foods. I’ve always tried whenever possible to stick to single ingredient, natural foods vs. processed, despite what the carb content is. Enjoyed the rest of the breakdown as well from Dr. Fung. Very informative.

@@sprauder I am trying to eat food with low carbs but not being too finicky. It takes time to get to a point where all your food is coming off low carbs. Knowing what to cook, the choice of ingredients, etc, so I am taking the migration to low carb slowly. I eat breakfast at around 8 am and then lunch at 1 pm. This is working well for me. I used to feel a bit hungry in the evenings for the first two weeks (for a short period of 30 mins or so) but a green tea or lemon with salt and water helped ease the pangs. Don’t feel hungry in the evening anymore and I have been able to even resume my evening run of about 5k even while fasting. I take care to run very slowly though so that I can burn the fat.

Eating low carb, lots veg salad or stir fry with beans or airfried coated chicken breast chunks or King Crab or tins of boneless skinless lemon on mackerel or sardines or herring. I mix those tins sometimes with Whitefish spread from Meijer's grocery or Kroger with celery& walnut with Stevia and put on Aldi 4 carb tortillas. Only eat 2 meals day within 6 to 61/2 window. Drink Aldi cans of seltzer water at the 3pm meal and during the day and or water. For bfast make 1 lower carb bread (11 carb) or Keto Zero bread both from Aldi with egg beaters and Gimme Lean plant sausage ( from Kroger add sage) with sprinkle fresh grate parmesan and lots of no salt spices, Nu-salt ,fresh ground pepper & 2 cups caffeinated coffee. Try to keep 3pm meal carbs low enough to incorporate an organic apple w little org peanut butter and Stevia for desert and health. Take brisk walk 45 min to hour a day. Add 9lb weight for lifting every other day do few reps for arm strength. The exercise will maximize your food/ fast efforts. I don't use any butter anymore, only mixture of olive oil with nutritional yeast and make a container of it & throw in slices of garlic to steep. There is a site on Facebook of large group of women doing this and sharing info called "Eat Like A Bear".

Magnetic knife rack filled with different kinds of knives from used stores etc. Multiple low cost spice racks. Love spices. Yesterday airfry chicken chunks with quick flip in olive oil, garam marsala, red pepper flakes and barley flour. Next times will add little No-salt pepper& Stevia. Yeah I love food too much but focusing on high quality flavor, healthiness, smaller quantities, low carb. Next time instead of barley flour will make crumbs from puffed kamut in food processor. Lower carb than barley. Coconut flour doesn't give as much crunchy texture.
