I'm your host, Darren Van Dam!
Tired of looking for good movies to watch on Netflix, Amazon Prime or other streaming services? Every week I recommend a handful of the best movies on Netflix, Amazon, HBO etc. so my subscribers never run out of good movies to watch on streaming. Spending 10 minutes watching one of my videos could save you hours of searching, hours that you could otherwise spend watching good movies on streaming that you otherwise might not have ever watched or even known about.
Thanks for watching! - Zábava

1. Wind River
Magnolia has to be among my top 100 favorite movies.
Last Action Hero is one of the funniest action/comedy movies and the soundtrack is awesome.
Wind River suffers from when you're telling someone about it, and at some point you say "but I'm not sure I'll ever watch it again". When you actually mean that as a compliment.
The forgotten battle was so good!
Windriver was 💥
A better Romantic Comedy for those who don't usually watch them is "Mr. Right" currently on Netflix.
@Ajay Tek69ashi opinions r like hinys....for sure, everybody's got one and no one wants to hear it..... butt,it's still cool to b able to express oneself.
Wind River is one of those engaging movies that sneaks up on you. I watched it about a year ago and loved every second of it.

“Unforgivable” is wrenching and truly superb. Sandra Bullock and an excellent cast.
could not agree more with ‘Wind River’ - just excellent the entire way through
💯 agreed
I could not agree more with you
Taylor Sheridan is excellent. If you like this you'll probably like Yellowstone, too
Saw it in the Theater and again on Netflix. Just outstanding.
Absolutely!
I certainly appreciate the shout out to Johnny Depp’s performance in once upon a time. Such a great character.
Thank you for weekend recommendations! Need a break from the news for just a bit!
I love your enthusiasm. This is how I get, trying to convince people to watch SO many films from the 1930's and 40's. There are so many gems that people just don't know about. Thank you for the list and for your passion! All of us film geeks are grateful!
the victim's father in Wind River is a great character - huge range of emotion during the movie
Another great list Darren !!!🔥🙌🏼 always coming through at the best times❤️🙏🏼
Love the polish! Excellent production value matched with awesome content. Thanks DVD!
Wind River really is a good movie. Would definitely be worth your time.
Midnight Run is a favorite and still holds up years later
The Machinist is just one of those deep, dark, eerie, thought provoking, must watch movies and I can't imagine anyone else in that role. Bale did such a good job and I know he had a nutritionist and all but I was still worried about him irl ☠😱
That and the Illusionist made me appreciate just how good Bale is as an actor.
Have you ever seen Equilibrium?
@@Sh3ba5843 Equilibrium is another good one. Most people have one of two problems that stop them from appreciating it, so (while avoiding spoilers, for those who haven't seen it) I'll try to forewarn folks about those.
(1) if you're into martial arts or guns or anything related, the idea behind the combat scenes is utterly absurd. If you just want your fights to look cool, you're fine, but I know a lot of people who think it ruins the realism of what's meant to be a serious movie.
(2) This is vague to avoid spoilers, but many people think the way the non-Bale characters act is a major plot hole. It's NOT -- their behavior is perfectly consistent with the theme of the movie. I can't explain it without spoilers, but you can look it up online after watching, if you don't figure it out yourself.
Great film with an amazing Dostoyevskian plot twist.
Wow...just discovered this channel...this guy is soooo spot-on and never would have known some of these flicks were on Netflix.
Great list. You save me from boredom every time. "Wind River" is dope. "Hold the Dark" has a similar feel and it's one of my NF favorites.
Wind River is superb. I watched it over and over when it was on Netflix previously. Jeremy Renner is sooooo good in this. In most of his scenes, I can't look at anything else. Also, the actress playing the FBI Agent is entertaining. So, I guess I am going to finally check out Midnight Run. Thanks DVD.
Midnight Run is a favorite of mine, I've seen it many times and it never fails to entertain!! Super funny! All the way through it's just flawless!! Enjoy!
I totally agree! The actress is Elizabeth Olsen. I also loved Gil Birmingham (the dad).
@@jeremymccollum4732 a lot of people enjoyed watching these pieces… sometimes with friends and pets
Wind River is excellent. One of my favorites too.
Wind River is a great movie. My wife does not like it because of the horrible things that happen. I think that is one of ways it is so great.
Wind River is a must watch for movie for anybody.
Great list, thank you! I was a huge fan of some of your mentions, like Magnolia, midnight run, American Gangster, and Wind river so you’re opinion is good with me.
In my opinion "The Accountant" (2016) is a movie that is far better than its Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes rating.
Epic movie
You are spot on right.
The accountant was fire.
I watch it probably every few months. Great film. Very interesting characters, interesting family. Could have pulled at least another movie.
The outlaw king is great
I've seen many movies over the decades, and have a top five that always changes. The one that never gets bumped out of the top five is Midnight Run, most of the time I need comic relief in my life and this movie is it.
Thank you, thank you, a thousand times thank you. It is so refreshing to see someone review and suggest movies based on actual experience quality, rather than pushing some agenda. You are a gem amongst many disappointing similar sites. Please continue to do what you do.
I just finished “Below Zero” which was on an earlier list. It was pretty good but if you haven’t seen “The Occupant” with the same actor Javier Gutierrez, you have to see it. Also, another one that people may have missed is “Red Dot”. Suspenseful with a surprise ending.
Great list! Thank you🌸
Just in time for the weekend! Thank you
Wind River is so good. I don't know why it didn't find an audience. I've rewatched it a few times.
'Starring Christian Bale... or at least half of him..." Good one.
Lmao
2 seconds after that there was a nip slip on youtube.
I’m so happy with this list. Wind River is great and I’m enjoying all the love for it in the comments. Excellent.
Thanks Darren ! 💓💓💓
I enjoyed Wheelman with Frank Grillo. Great suspense movie that keeps you guessing. The most impressive thing about this movie is that it primarily takes place in the car and most view points of the action are from the car thus giving you an unprecedented level of immersion. Ive watched a lot of action movies but this was the first one that made me feel like I was in the passengers seat.
Midnight Run is also one of my favorites. Magnolia works as an extended music video for Aimee Mann. Tom Cruise just leans into it. Great actors all acting hard.
Darren👋🏽 U the Man👍🏽💯 great list!!🤗
This video and preview format is excellent. I’ll be checking out some of your picks.
I am SO glad you covered Wind River. I thought it was brilliant - but hard to watch. It had a lot to say about Native American life. Hard to watch but something I consider required viewing.
This is REALLY useful and well done. Subscribed. Prciate the work.
Wind River is the best movie I've seen in the last 5 years.
Great list !! I agree with most of your recommendations! Your takes,in the time you have, are precise & informative.
Magnolia forever changed the way I watched movies. I absolutely LOVE that movie. If you like drama, Magnolia is the movie for you.
It was lost on me
Except Marcy
Awesome list. As always
If you're looking for Twilight Zone type movies, "I'm thinking of ending things" is a solid offering. And for other underated films I don't see "His House" showing up on many lists and I recommend it to everyone.
His house trailer looks great .. Thanks.
I totally agree with "I'm thinking. . . " her soliloquy/voiceover through the first part is just haunting. I've watched just that part like three times.
His House was fantastic!!!
Hey Darren, can you make a list of the most rewatchable movies on each streaming service?
Great recommendations! BTW, what is that cool tee you're wearing? I can't quite make out the image.
Midnight run has been and will always be one of my top 5 Favorite movie.
I can't even tell you how many times I've watched it.
Great list!!
One of the best ones , imo. 👍
I’ve seen most of these and agree largely. I don’t know if this film is still on Netflix, but “The Endless” is a true mind bender. Cheers.
My wife and I enjoyed Wind River a lot more than we expected! Definitely one of my favorites now. #1 spot was right on.
"Always Be My Maybe" is a very good holiday movie for the extended family without the young children.
As a retired federal agent and agency firearms instructor, I can say that “Wind River” has the most realistic shootout, IMHO, ever filmed!
Watched Black Sea based on your recommendation. One I enjoyed and never would have discovered without your channel. Thanks
How have I not seen a lot of these!! Sounds like its time for a binge watch! Thanks man!
Scarlet Witch and Hawkeye together in a Wind River movie?! ... I'm sold!
Just watched Concrete Cowboy with Idris Elba and Caleb McLaughlin from Stranger Things and it was wonderful! It features some of the OG cowboys and girls from the real riding club in Philadelphia. Also, loved Harder They Fall. Idris on a horseback, I'm in!
I went to see the movie: Arachnophobia at the theatre before I realized I had arachnophobia. So maybe not so much Eight Legged Freaks, but otherwise, you have some great pics on here.
Ahh Midnight Run seen it a dozen times, never gets old.
Great list. Love nightingale and wind river.
Midnight run!!!! Awesome list man.
Windriver is exceptional and being from Wyoming it makes it just that much more interesting
Bring back the video chapters/segments, please! A lot more simple to navigate. Thank you for all of your hard work! Enjoyed Leon the professional for the 10th time the other day lol
You might not be the best, DvD, but there's nobody better ;) Great work!
He Never Died is a very strange movie, but I liked it. I thought it took a premise that could easily be very cheesy but took it seriously, made it very thoughtful and melancholy and that was interesting. It does have somewhat of a slow pace, so that might be a turn off form some people. But if you're into weird films with out-there premises I would recommend it.
Wind River is really a underrated movie. Its pretty good.
Thanks able to add some movies to the playlist
Love your channel!
Thank you!
Excellent recomendatioms
Midnight Run is a classic! DeNiro, Grodin, Dennis Farina and the great Yaphet Koto! Grodin was perfect in this role, one of my favourites.
Theres some really good stuff on this list thanks
I'll AlWAYS watch your video recommends ❤❤❤❤❤ always look forward to the next ones you put out. My fav CZcams channel!
Got 3 great new movies out of this review; a few that I've already seen. Subscribed.
🤟
"Wind River" was an exceptional film. It deserved an Oscar. Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen deserved Oscars. My opinion on why it was ignored is because it was produced by Harvey Weinstein and there was no way that Hollywood was going to risk giving Weinstein any accolades. Consequently, the actors, the director, the writers, and the cinematographer, all got ignored. That was wholly unfair, but this is America and fairness no longer resides in the hearts of Americans.
If you watch "Wind River" you will not be disappointed.
@ya Jeff ! easily on e of the more important issues , and most ignored . Ifeel that the subject matter here "Violence toward native american women ". is abit more than a lot of us are able to face but "we gotta." so watch this one .
I did love The Forgotten Battle, I was surprise how much I enjoy it , Thanks for the recommendation
Seen it good war movie. However it takes place in Holland not Sweden.
What a Vets Day treat, thanks D. Happy birthday yesterday to my fellow Marines- Best Wishes for all who serve.
Thanks for your service!! Best wishes to you and all who served and serve! 🇺🇲
I got a Marine in my life and we thank you for your service and the good wishes 😙
As I grow older, I realize the following words are white lies. "Going to heaven and tank those who serve"
Both are about death.
For those might have missed this.
Brown University’s Costs of War Project this month released a new estimate of the total death toll from the U.S. wars in three countries: Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. The numbers, while conservatively estimated, are staggering. Brown’s researchers estimate that at least 480,000 people have been directly killed by violence over the course of these conflicts, more than 244,000 of them civilians. In addition to those killed by direct acts violence, the number of indirect deaths - those resulting from disease, displacement, and the loss of critical infrastructure - is believed to be several times higher, running into the millions.
Midnight Run and Wind River are the real winners here.
I just got done watching Nightingale on your recommendation, excellent movie thank you for the heads up, I'd give it an 8 out of 10, excellent watch
Thank you for recommending KLAUS. Even though it's new, it became my favorite Christmas movie of all time. It's just phenomenal.
Awesome movie and I LOVE they had Sami characters
I really wish Taylor Sheridan would write more movies. Sicario, Hell or High Water, Wind River are all absolutely amazing. I know he's been doing TV more recently, but I haven't been able to see any of that.
Sicario was so wack
Your top two are right on the money although I would have switched their position. Midnight Run is one of my all time favorites.
The Machinist was directed by Brad Anderson who also did Session 9 which is very worthwhile.
Wind River is an outstanding movie. It is intense and dark.
Magnolia. Paul Thomas Anderson found making that movie intensely depressing. What got him through is was watching Happy Gilmore, a lot. So when he finished it he wrote a movie for Adam Sandler as a thank you. That movie was Punch Drunk Love.
Magnolia was HORRIBLE!!! People got up and walked out of the movie theater but I forced my friends to stay because Roger Ebert said there was this pivotal scene that was MIND BLOWING. We cheered as one by one, characters died off, because we knew that when the film ran out of characters the film would end, AND we had developed zero feeling for the characters. It was F*CKING HORRIBLE!!! Frogs, What The Actual FUUUUUUUUCK!?!?!!??!!!????
I gave Last Action Hero a rewatch. Hadn’t watched it probably since the 90’s. I had forgotten how good the soundtrack was.
Wind River was f'ing amazing. I f'ing love that movie. The craziest part was being a veteran and always noticing tactics. You could see where that scene was going and you knew they were caught in it. Talk about intense.
I absolutely love Eight Legged Freaks. I wish they made more movies like that with a decent cast
I have liked several of the movies on this list BUT Wind River was VERY interesting and intense.
Fav Midnight Run quote "why are you unpopular with the Chicago police department?"
It's always hard trying to find a movie on Netflix, this video helps ... keep em coming.
You can visit the 80s era Soviet submarine in Black Sea. It’s a museum ship in San Diego.
I have not even watched the video yet, but I pulled up Wind River because you guys in the comments recommended it so heavily. Thank you! (I'll be back to let his lost play though) *adds to "Watch Later*
What did you think?
spot on..great rating.
I think King Arthur: Legend of the Sword needs a director's cut. Guy Ritchie provides a really interesting version of the Hero's Journey. The action, set design, and visuals are like something from a 'turn off your brain' Marvel movie or Fast and Furious movie, you almost need to watch it twice to appreciate it. There's a little more depth than I caught the first viewing.
Awesome movie !!
Yeah Nah
Eight Legged Freaks is a classic!! definitely worth the watch.
Hi Darrin, I just watched Wind River late nite til 4 a.m. ish Fri 11/19, & I Agree it's an Excellent, well acted mystery thriller w/beautiful snowy scenery, so Thanks for this recommendation & others on this list.😊💙 After I finally sleep (Sadly my sleep & wake cycle is very Reversed/Fu*#d -up especially since Fall began) & I pray get up while it's still FriDAY & get some necessary errands done, I plan to watch Cop Car, Midnight Run, maybe Unthinkable, & some others fairly soon.😊
Black sea was incredible. Ty so much
Wind River...sounds like my perfect movie!!!
Great list, watched a lot of the mentioned movies already but most of them are worth the watch, even if they weren’t amazing movies.
The about Ali is that Muhammed Ali was so important and so flamboyant, even a crappy TV movie about him would have been interesting. But Michal Mann did a great job with this.
Agree, Wind River is the best! When looking for a good movie to watch I go back to it.
Wind River.. Holy $hit!! What an excellent movie! Well actually it's very difficult to watch but it really is an Excellent movie! So many emotions! It truly is a must watch movie! King Arthur was really good as well. My favorite King Arthur movie came out 2004 w/ Clive Owen I really did like KA Legend of the sword though too. It was very different & I love that! Thanks Darren!
Shane Black wrote the script for Predator and Last Action Hero, along with many other action films and comedies.
Wind River is one that gets you right from the getgo. I couldn't take a pee break; because, it's so goddam captivating. Excellent acting, great story, and sad on so many levels. It's doesn't apologize. It made me quite emotional for all the characters. I will watch this again once I've forgotten the plot.
Nightingale, and The Forgotten Battle, I really enjoyed both.
