    I see the struggle to install that plug, I use a socket that will fit inside the plug to get it started then use bigger socket to drive it all the way in. I made my own driver with a 3/8 drive wobble extension n viola freeze plug installed

    I paid a mechanic to replace the freeze plugs in a used engine he was putting in my truck, as well as adding a freeze plug heater into one of the holes. When I got my truck back home a few hours away I seen the heater and new plugs sitting in the floorboard of the truck. So I guess now I have to do it with the engine in the truck.

      Hi Gonzalo, I saw same thing he never did other freeze plug. Tip on putting in freeze plugs in 5.9l I used bit red silicone, and small hammer too get it stuck and started then I used my air hammer gently with my mushroom head tapped it right in place was fast easy. Just got Tapp it gently all around and watch it go in then done. Also I used from harbor freight in package there's 6 wire wheels they fit die-grinder try it fast freeze plug hole clean out use bigger wire wheel to polish block with. Simple.

  • @tiporari
    @tiporari Před 4 lety +1

    That block needs to be flushed. The crap in that water jacket will or has already stopped up the radiator, heater core and water galleries. Water pump seals are likely chewed up too. A brass wire wheel works good for cleaning those holes. The corrosion of the frame means that truck isn't long for this earth.

    Heard its best to use Brass freeze plugs.
    Great video.
    I have coolant leak in my Dakota and looks like its from freeze plugs mine all look like that but leak coming from in front of the engine near the crank.
    I think there's freeze plug behind the alternator.

      Yes and even the 3.9 L v6 which is really a 5.2 minus two cylinders what might change are the smaller plugs if you buy a full kit for a specific engine say to replace them all and also the amount of plugs would be less for the 3.9 v6.
