I have a pretty cool horror movie title to share with you. If Vanilla Ice made a horror movie, the title of the horror movie could be "Slice Slice Baby".
My favourite kind of found footage is the kind where there’s a documentary around it like the Bay or Savage land or the Poughkeepsie tapes
The Bay was so good. Thank you. I forgot about it. Most of the locations in the movie are 20 minutes from my apartment.
Jack & Guru's tip for the day:
If no one can see sh!t in your movie and you have the goddamn means...
#UseYourBigLight
'Cause we came for a movie, not an ambiguous fk-around.
#UseYourBigLight Keep on rocking and speaking your truth
I think one of my favorite things about these vlogs is when I start one up and I just see Jack sitting there already pissed and I'm just like "oh it was one of those movies". Another awesome vlog all the same, hope you two are doing well. #UseYourBigLight
wow three straight movies you guys didn't like in a row, now that's something new
I get that sometimes it’s more scarier to leave the audience with their imagination but when you take that and drag it you leave the audience frustrated
If you guys are looking for something that’s more of a crazy popcorn flick, I recommend Project Wolf Hunting. It’s a South Korean action thriller that I can best describe as Escape From New York mixed with The Raid, that turns into a different movie halfway through (not going to spoil what though). THAT one is a blast and a half!
some 'Dusk to Dawn' energy then.
@@Citrakite Not quite. From Dusk Till Dawn is a movie that starts off as one kind of film, then switches genres partway through. This one starts off as and stays one thing throughout. But then a certain element (that was introduced earlier) makes its official entrance in the movie, it amplifies the movie it already was. There's one or two sci-fi action thrillers I can sorta compare it to, but I won't say what they are because they may give the movie away.
@@heymistercarter. `It’s a South Korean action thriller that I can best describe as Escape From New York mixed with The Raid, that turns into a different movie halfway through'
That's literally what From Dusk to Dawn is. Starts as a crime thriller then goes full Vampire while still technically a crime thriller given the ending.
I've been out to the Mojave Desert three times serving in the US Army. NTC National Training Center the armpit of California. Although I did go to a party in Joshua Tree National Park and that was quite fun.
I’m enjoying your negative reviews lately. They’re not mean spirited or pretentious criticisms. Some folk are just bad a bad reviews.
#useyourbiglight
Welp sounds like today I’m gonna get my ‘found footage group stuck in a hell loop fix’ from a rewatch of ‘As Above So Below’. Wouldn’t want to watch a film that turns happy/smiley Jack into ‘tf crap did I just waste my life watching Jack’. 🤣
This found footage was the impressive ff film I’ve seen since Final Prayer. Loved it! The tonal shift reminded me of the original TCM. Understand that you weren’t a fan tho. I have my frustrations with Skinamarink but I think I need to give it a second watch. Cheers
Still need to see Resolution.
The Endless is great fun (tangent, I didn't really like Spring, thought that idea was handled better in a book called Stacking Doll by Carlton Mellick III).
As Above, So Below is on our semi-regular October spooky movie line-up. It definitely has its flaws, but still a fun ride.
I finally watched it and am so confused: was this a hell dimension? Why are there government testing signs? Did the main character smoke the pot that smells like soap? I greatly prefer Horror in the High Desert series. Yeah that had a lot of openness to what was going on (cult, aliens, mutants, demons, lost link) but the questions made the movie fun
Sounds like the kind of movie I would come up with, during listening to Lustmord or Bohren & der Club of Gore, while being high. Vage enough that it fits the ambiance. #useyourbiglight
#UseYourBigLight
The desert can be quite beautiful and spooky. But it is usually really not all that exciting.
Ya know if jack is horror daddy and nyx fears is horror mommy, I feel josh is the cool uncle #useyourbiglight
I'm so glad you said this. I hated the movie and it really bummed me out. I love found footage movies, but I couldn't understand why or how people liked this!
#UseYourBigLight! I was thinking this for 80% of the flick! Worst. Flashlight. Ever! haha
Same Jack, same 😆 This was the most frustrating watch. I love found footage and slow burn films but this just gave me nothing. Annoyingly I think I would have loved this film if we saw something! I kept thinking we were about to see something cool but it was just blood on the ground most of the time. So hard to get through! #useyourbiglight 💥
#useyourbiglight Thanks for a honest review. This farthouse film could of been about 30 minutes shorter and not described as a "found footage". Agree completely on the flashlight inconsistencies and how was it that the lens managed to stay so clean.
Also, Hoopla is free from my library so luckily I didn't have to pay to watch.
Damn, that was unexpected! You guys are honestly one of the most relentlessly positive review channels I watch (the delicious irony of it being a horror channel). It's not often you guys discuss a movie you don't like, let alone one that Jack legitimately HATES.
Will avoid, thanks for taking one for the team!
#UseYourBigLight Oh man, I was looking forward to this movie.
This movie was fucking awesome. It has a lot of "The Void" in the creature part. Where you could barely see it. Other than that, this movie messed with my head so much that until this day, I cannot understand it. They sound disappointed in their expectations of it. The film goes into a black rabbit hole in the middle (When he sees the rip in the fabric of space). That was it. After that, it's all upside down. You really need to be prepared psychologically for the visual rape.
PS. The monster is a merging of the donkeys, by the way.
I would recommend a Thai movie, “The Medium” as one of the best found footage movies I’ve seen. Maybe this director will do better work.
Two in a row!!!!
You two aren’t the only ones.
14:36 "fat donkey with a unicorn horn"😆
Hated the first 38 minutes, really dug the last 45 minutes or so. “My head is raining.”
Well personally I loved it, the whole point is less is more, the rest is up to your imagination... The character can't see what's going on, so why should the audiences..
#use your big light boys
I'm right there with you guys. I love found footage, am totally ok with "ant's eye view" horror where the characters never know what's going on, but this took the shaky, low-visibility WAAY too far for a feature length, almost 2-hour film. It withheld way too much. Films that I think are comparable - "The Void," "Blair Witch," "The Endless," "Cloverfield", were all superior because they showed enough to satisfy and make sense to the audience and also gave us more explanation through hints or confirmation. This was just a pointless, unsatisfying, anything-goes (was there even a script??) waste of time. It would've made a good 15-minute short film though.
FINALLY!!! an honest review of this movie...
#useyourbiglight “a dry hand job that just won’t end” 😂 Sir I am stealing this
The Outwaters? More like The Dogwaters...nailed it
#UseYourBigLight to hopefully find something you guys like soon, please. I enjoy watching you two geek out over movies you love! I hope Cocaine Bear works better for you if it's on the list!
I’m glad I watched this before committing to the movie lol
You guys are awesome! Thanks for the content!
#UseYourBigLight I did watch it all the way I swear
#USEYOURBIGLIGHT!
#useyourbiglight i hoped this film at least would have unique natural scenery, but you say there is nothing visible on the screen...
What is that site that showed where you could watch the movie and the options where to find it?
JustWatch.com
@@TheHorrorGuru thanks!
I trust you guys, and I’m glad I checked after the hype!
#useyourBiglight
Great review! I just watched this because I heard good things. It was AWFUL. The first part with the character building was boring and too long. The second part was frustrating because I couldn’t see anything. This was not for me!
#useyourbiglight
If it makes you feel any better, the cast and crew were swarmed by bees. I like to watch found footage movies that are bad and good. If it weren't on Screambox and moved over on Shudder, I'd give it a watch and see if I get frustrated like you guys did. #UseYourBigLight
Seems like the only thing that this movie did good was give me two movie recommendations #useyourbiglight
😎😎👍👍
Well sorry to hear that you guys didn't have a good time with this movie, but it was entertaining to watch you guys tear it apart XD #UseYourBigLight
Oh, a dinky little flashlight where you can't see anything even though it should logically show a lot more? Finally a movie adaption of asset-flip horror games :)
Backstory, I saw a screening of this in a theater where the director and his family were present a few weeks back. I’ve got the same complaints as you guys, but what made it even worse was I swear to god the sound mixing or setup in the theater was scaled that every time things got loud or chaotic (god help us we didn’t have subtitles), it was just constant annoying l o u d shrieking. My head was pounding by the end of it and not in a good way. It just felt like someone putting you in a dark room with a tiny flashlight and screaming at you at random intervals. The director seemed like he genuinely cared tho so..eh, I respect him but what the fuck did you make, sir?
I love this comment lol
I'd been looking forward to seeing The Outwaters for nearly a year, and I just found it the other day on Hoopla. I didn't like it either, for the same reason you guys discussed: I couldn't see anything in the movie! It made me very frustrated and I even was tempted to turn it off altogether.
Jack is adorable when he's grumpy. I'll skip this one. #UseYourBigLight
Y’all wasted your eye sight to watch this movie 😂
#useyourbiglight no more..I don't know if you would even call this minimalist found footage.
Haven't heard of this film until I saw this Vlog pop up in my sub feed, and it sounds very poor in its execution based upon what you two described. Less might be more when it comes to many things in cinema, but that doesn't apply to allowing your audience to see or narrative coherency. #UseYourBigLight
Y’all don’t come for me but I legit skipped through this one
I’m like you know what this is my life and my time hell no this isn’t for me
As Men On Film would say from In Living Color ….. hated it!!!!
#useyourbiglight
#UseYourBigLight
This is the type of navelgazing trite I would force film bros to watch as a means to have them stop bitching and moaning about Slasher films and the MCU.
#useyourbiglight - I didn't even finish the film. I found it boring.
I'm surprised they still make FFFs.
I actually didn’t waste my time with this one once u guys said it was this terrible 😂😂😂
The Outwaters? More like The Toilet Water, am I right?
Sorry you had to put up with such a disappointing movie.
