I think we forget that Covid is still very much a thing. My Mum ended up on a ward last November having gone down with it, thinking she just had a bad cold and soldiered on and then ended up in A&E and turned out to have Covid and pneumonia. She only stayed for 4 days because being in hospital was making her worse and stressed out but the recovery at home was still very slow. Very scary as we'd all pretty sailed through since 2020. So sorry to hear all this has happened to you. What a nightmare! I hope everything works out and your Dad gets to come home.

I am dealing with sort of similar things right now. My Dad passed away with ALS in late 2015 and I was a basket case throughout his illness and for years after (other things contributed to that as well). I finally began feeling better a couple of years ago and am fighting my way back to a new normal (a healthier one) and now my Mom is ill. She has back/leg/feet issues and Parkinson's. My family went away for 5 days in late June and my only sibling stayed with Mom while we were gone. She caught a cold from him and got very weak while he was with her. She fell 3 times and now she can't manage to walk (weakness--nothing broken or anything) and has to be helped into a wheelchair, We're having a horrible time caring for her. My oldest daughter stays with her and cleans house, cooks, runs errands, etc., but she also works and Mom has to have someone with her nearly around the clock. She has to have help to and in the bathroom and shower. My husband, myself, and our other children have been going there to help out and I have been sending meals, but it's not enough. We are trying to hire care in-home but there are few people available who can lift as part of care. We do not want to put her in a nursing home and it will be nearly impossible for me to bring her to our home because I can't get her in and out of the bathroom and deal with toileting and showers by myself and my husband works 6 days a week. The only help I'd have is our youngest daughter. Idk what to do and things are getting harder. She has physical therapy people coming this week to help strengthen her so we can possibly get her back on a walker and able to move around...but this is a terrible situation. My sibling lives in NY and we're in WV--a 10 hour drive.
I don't mean to complain to you...just letting you know that my heart goes out to you in a very real way. God bless and I hope your Dad and everyone else in your family are well soon!

That "ucky rot" at the end of your yellow squash still looks like "blossom end rot". Blossom end rot is actually caused by a lack of proper calcium delivery through the fruit. Of course the calcium is delivered via water transport within the plant. Inconsistent watering can be a cause which occurs when the plant goes too dry inbetween waterings. It can occur and/ or be more prominent when the soil is calcium deficient too. In our area which has more rain for more months than other parts of the country, tje calcium can leach out of the soil.

Thanks. I have broken up loads of eggshells and put them by the roots. Do you think that will help?

@@ShoestringJane Egg shells are slow release calcium. Crumble them in your hand into 1/4'-ish (?2cm) size while not bring concerned about the inner skin/connective tissue because thst will quickly decompose into nothing. If ypu mix the egg shell crumbles with coffee grounds (or tea leaves) they will dissappear all the quicker between chemical changes and worms. Scratch the egg shells into the dirt a touch and thry will work thier way down to mechanically/ physically assist in creating better soil loft. - BTW You can use any form of seafood shell similarly but youneill, want to wash to remove salt.

My 96 yr old parents are both on an isolation ward with it. She has dementia so it’s very difficult to calm her down. No visitors allowed for the minimum 10 days. I’ve been permitted to visit my mum as she is so distressed and I’m the only one who can calm her a bit, but I can’t see my dad. I have to have the lft each day before I get access to the ward. Nightmare.

God, how awful for you! At least I can visit and only one of my parents is hospitalised. I hope they both recover soon. Take care x

People need to understand that covid is on the rise everywhere. I worked in a covid unit during the pandemic and it was horrible. I’m surprised they let you visit him while he has covid. We have no visitors allowed when patient is on covid quarantine isolation. I never got covid for the two years I worked on covid unit. I contracted covid while in hospital for open heart surgery. Luckily it wasn’t a serious case. Due to pandemic I went part time nursing schedule after 38 years working full time.

I'm so glad they allowed it. Dad has since died and I didn't get covid whilst visiting (although I did later from my daughters!). It was really important for me to spend time with him. You're right though - there is a lot of it about. 8 of my family members have had it now.

Hello Jane. Here I was scrolling through CZcams and the title of your video jumped out at me and beckoned. Oh gosh, your life sounds to be in complete turmoil right now and you must feel totally rundown. I do hope your dad's health improves so that he can return home soon......though that will probably not lighten the load for you. And so much covid in your family as well, fingers crossed you continue to show negative. I have never had covid, my husband either even though he has compromising blood cancer issues. I have had 5 jabs, and he 6 so I should think we are well and truly covered, although there is no guarantee. I bet you are missing your darling Archie while you are home alone. Our Alice turned 11 last week and I have made her promise she will live forever. We are going to be babysitting another golden retriever for a week from tomorrow. He is only 9 months old and just been desexed so will arrive wearing a leg bruising cone of shame. He chewed his first cone up and got stuck into his wound ripping all the sutures out, so that has been redone and he is now sporting an even bigger leg bruiser. Will be fun in our house with 2 goldens at opposite ends of the age scale! Looks as though you have had a bumper crop of veggies Jane, well done. We are in the middle of a very cold winter in Sth Aust - minus 2 here this morning and continuing to be similar for the next week at least. Now I must catch up on all your Shoestring videos I have missed. Warm wishes 🐾🥰

Aww, thanks, Marion. Oh my goodness that pup sounds a right pickle! At least wearing a cone he won’t chew your house up. Good luck with that, you are very brave 😂😂
