Learn how to prepare this traditional Spanish recipe Lentejas con chorizo (Lentils with chorizo)

  • In this video I will show you my favorite lentils recipe. It is a very easy and delicious recipe that you will love. If you like you can also add bacon, ear or blood sausage, but I will prepare them only with chorizo. I hope you like it!
    Ingredients:
    a bay leaf
    chorizo
    250 gr of lentils
    1 green bell pepper
    1 tomato
    1 onion
    2 cloves of garlic
    1 potato
    2 carrots
    1/2 teaspoon paprika
    1/4 teaspoon yellow coloring
    Peel the onion and chop it very finely. We chop the tomato very finely too.
    Remove the seeds from the bell pepper and chop it into large pieces.
    In a pot we add olive oil and add our vegetables. While they are cooking peel the carrots and chop them into pieces. Add the carrots to the pot and stir well.
    Cut the chorizo into slices and add it also to the pot and stir. Let it cook over medium heat for about 5 more minutes.
    Add the bay leaf and the lentils and stir well and then add water, I have added about 600 ml. You have to cover the lentils. If you like them more soupy add more water. Add a half tablespoon of salt, put the lid on and let cook over medium heat for about 40 minutes.
    Meanwhile peel the potato and cut it into pieces (see the video).
    After 40 minutes add the paprika and the coloring and take out the green bell pepper and the garlic to grind it with the blender. Add a little water to make it easier to grind.
    Add the potato, the bell pepper and the crushed garlic and mix well. Let it cook for another 15 minutes until the potato is cooked.
    Taste the salt in case you need to add more and it's ready!

    The first thing you want in the pot is the Chorizo, so it cooks first realising all those fat flavors and then leave last the most tender vegetable so it won't be all saggy, good luck

    What is the weight of chorizo? I'm in the UK and we don't get them like you have there

      Hi Richard!! Thanks for watching!!😍 You can use the amount you want. Sometimes when I don't have chorizo in the fridge I use sausages, or if we are on a diet just veggies hahaha. Regards!!!!

    Thanks for sharing, however I would:
    - cook the chorizo first to get some browning going
    - then after removing these add the vegetables and really wait untill they brown also
    - add the salt at the end so that the lentils don't get hard!
