Hello! This jacket uses LIFALOFT Insulation with Primaloft. PrimaLoft is top-quality synthetic insulation. Often called the "synthetic down," it's one of the warmest insulations available. PrimaLoft has an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio, which means you don't need much to stay warm. LIFALOFT helps to retain heat and still remain lightweight to give you ultimate comfort out on the mountain. On the product page it explains a little more. Hope this helps! =)

One question, how do these jackets size? if I normally wear an xl should I buy a L?

Thanks for your question! This Helly jacket has a more relaxed fit. It has a longer fit than normal to help protect your lower torso and your seat from colder elements.
