- Nathan MacKinnon is having a season for the Colorado Avalanche ages, and it brings up a question fans love asking about their teams. Which players are on the Avalanche Mt. Rushmore?

Makar over MacKinnon is a wild take. 😂
MacKinnon has played 788 games for the Avs, Makar has played 312. MacKinnon take games over constantly and has carried the team for years. Makar is the best defenseman in Avs history, but he’s not chasing a player of Sakic’s caliber for that title. This isn’t a debate, it’s MacKinnon. Just because he hasn’t won a Conn Smythe we are gonna keep him off? This dude is gonna shatter every Avs scoring record and he’s about to win league MVP.
It was not very long ago when we had Makar up there without hesitation and not MacKinnon. These winds change with every year.
@@LockedOnAvalanche I never had Makar up there and would never put him above MacKinnon. Makar is a great player but he’s nowhere near MacKinnon in my opinion.
Not a tough question right now. Way too many games played difference. Mackinnon also came into the league when Colorado was inferior. Makar joined when Colorado was already a wagon.
Cale and Nate..... we are lucky.

As good as Makar is, I have never seen Makar take over a game the way MacKinnon has (especially this year). But the argument shouldn't be Makar or MacKinnon, it's Forsberg or Makar/MacKinnon. To me it's Sakic, Roy, MacKinnon, Makar. Plus MacKinnon will probably never skate for another team. Can't say that about Forsberg. Hope we don't say it about Makar.
Makar has definitely taken over games
Gotta disagree. I've seen him pull in a bunch of points in a game, but more importantly I've seen him totally shut down the other team while forcing back their defenders to let the forwards do their magic. He takes over games as well as anyone.
My thoughts on a rule update, I have always loved this idea. When a goalie commits a penalty he should get to decide if he want's to face a penalty shot or two minutes short handed.
Here’s how I’ve always looked at the Rushmore question… start with your all time five lineup. It’s Sakic Forsberg Mack with Foote and Makar for me…Obviously Roy in net. To get to four I agree Roy and Sakic are solid, and then I think after this season Mack has passed Foppa (it’s so close though). So the last slot either goes to Foppa or a defenseman… for me, forsberg has the legacy at this point in time. I have zero doubts that when all is said and done Cale will be up there, but right now he doesn’t have the legacy… and let the hate come but the greatest defender in Avs history for me is still Adam Foote! Again, Cale will pass him for sure, but all the records you’re talking about are offensive records. Foote is still the legendary Avs defender for me. When I think lockdown defensemen I still picture footer bleeding against the wings in the 90s and smothering tkachuk in 01. Cale passed ozolinsh long ago, but he’s still got some years before passing Foote, even with the resume he already has. Let’s just win two cups in the next five years and make it easy, come on boys!!

By the end of their careers the mount Rushmore will be Sakic, Mackinnon, Forsberg and Roy. With another cup and Norris I'd put Makar over Forsberg as well and Forsberg is one of my favorite players ever. Mackinnon imo already has a Hart trophy, I don't care that the voters were completely braindead that year and gave it to freaking Hall, this year would be his 2nd Hart
Mack is for sure on the mtn. No chance in hell he’s not front and center. If not now? In 2-3 years he’s etched in marble. Makar? He decides to leave hockey and go fishing forever? He’s the honorable mention. Would be on there but let’s also say you have gotta be 30 to make it. Just not around long enough to be on mtn if you’re not with team on ice at least a decade. Yeah, a decade on ice with the Avs is a good requirement I think. Nate makes it now. Cale when he’s 31…
in regards to expansion draft i think when i new tam comes in they should just get all the first round picks boom done u get all the rookies u can trade em or watever and u can of course sign ppl and or get ppl of waivers , no more cherry picking from teams,and that team would have a lower cap space if they kept more than certain amount of the rookies signed of course cause at what 850k they would have a crap ton of cap space to just go crazy with like no there cap would be adjusted accordingly ,so they would have the space to sign 3-4 big players but thats it , like build a team no more cherry picking
That is a horrible idea all around. Imagine being a struggling team and not being able to pick a generational talent because an expansion team just happened to come into the league that year. The current expansion rules are actually pretty good.
For me it's Sakic, Mackinnon, Roy, foresberg. If Mackinnon wins another cup, them it's a toss-up. How blessed we are as Avs fans that we get Sakic AND MacKinnon AND Roy AND foresberg AND Makar and on and on...
The list of legends that we got to see in an Avs uniform, is insane!
Guys Mac is special we have never seen a player like this on ice! When it is all said and done Mac will front that Mt. Rushmore

Sakic - He IS the face avalanche franchise as a whole.
Roy - Brought some of the largest and iconic moments in franchise history (perhaps NHL history)
Landeskog - He was the new generation core, youngest captain all the way from the bottom to the Stanley cup.
Mackinnon - Simply too powerful of force on this team and he very well could pass Sakic.
I wear 21 in honor of Forsberg in my beer league, he will never be forgotten, however the new age of fans may not remember his glory days.
Makar easily could take Mackinnons spot. But I cant take Landy off in my opinion. He is the captain of the new age for the franchise.
Paul Stastny as honorable mention. Dude rode with us through some long years.
I cannot didagree more about Mack v Makar. If today was the cutoff it has to be Mack. He is the center of the team, he was here through the thin, the team was built around him, the team was built to play like him, he is the engine. In the end makar may prove to be the better overall player...but mackinnon continues to het better each year. He is already on the mountain, and bumps milan off for me. Makar can fight pete for the fourth spot.
Rule change...overtime doesnt end till someone wins. 5 minutes of 5 on 5, then 5 minutes of 4 on 4, 5 at 3 on 3, then it goes to 2v2 with no goalie...better not take a late penalty lol
Why are guys getting me to think? Lol... Rule change segment: Entry Draft- when a team wins the draft lottery- then 2nd (and only) round is reversed. So the Stanley Cup champs get pick back to back, 32 and 33rd, and the team that wins lottery, that usually tanks would receive 1st overall and 64 pick. More teams are less trying to tanking, and more teams will be trying to stack in order to win the 33rd pick if they didn't trade it away their 2nd rounder.
I don't think Makar has earned a spot yet, though he's on the trajectory for sure. But if we're being honest Makar hasn't really kept up with this 2022 form, particularly defensively. These playoffs are big for him.
It's amazing how these things change year to year. Following the Cup season, we were all ready to throw him on there immediately. Now after an MVP caliber season from MacKinnon, he's back up there. This is why I hate doing this before careers are over!
He is not disrupting the mount he’s on it. And the architects are already planning on how to get Cale up there too

Face it. This team has had too many superstars to keep our Mount Rushmore to only four players; or, we need two separate ones for Early Era and Current Era. Sakic, Roy, Forsberg, Hejduk. Landeskog, MacKinnon, Rantanen, Makar. (I don't know enough about Nordiques history to know if I'm seriously dissing Goulet or Stastny.)
Sudden Death is one of the greatest things in sports. The NFL already screwed this up, let's not do it to hockey!

Shootout is stupid, just make OT a real full OT period and then if you’re still tied it’s a Tie rather than an OTL point and a winner point, the 2 points just get split.
I would not worry about EDM - they beat Vegas 5-1 without McDavid. Not a word on the upcoming Arizona Coyotes move? Nothing? After WPG won in Dallas, a must-win tomorrow. The losses against MTL and CBJ are weighing in very heavy.
Rule change: players should be suspended from playing against the offended team. ie Rempe would be suspended for 4 games against the devils. This would not carry into the playoffs, trades, or following seasons. If it is not possible to serve the full suspension in the regular season, remaining games are served against conference opponents
I am very bias for Mackinnon
There is no one D man in Colorado history who was great and played a long career with them. It was easy for Makar to get there.
i hate the ot loser point so many teams hang around in the standings because of it , if they wanna keep it then a regulation win should be 3 points ,nhl loves its 3 points so much well award it to the winning team in regulation ffs . i could go and look at the standings right now and i bet at least 4 teams would be out of a playoff spot if not for those 1 point games

They're franchise records. Everyone wants to act like the team started in '95. It didn't.
Jets are going to be a much tougher opponent compared to the Kraken who they lost to last year. I think y'all are getting too cocky
