Off topic, but I’m at the Secretary pay part. My grandma was a secretary in the mid 1960’s, and she made $1.25/hour.
She loved it, and at the time, that was a LIVABLE WAGE!!! She was a teenager and was able to pay to put herself into a private technical high school, Cass Tech, in Detroit. ❤️

When I was 15, the common wage was $1 an hour. I made $1 an hour packing bags at a discount store, and back then, you didn't need an SS# until you had a job. I lucked into filling in, so I had no SS# until I was 21 and had a bonafide job. Your grandma was more experienced and had creds, so she made 25cents more and hour. It sounds weird now, but $1 an hour was on the low scale. However, you could pay for an apartment and pay bills. I wanted to move out of my parents' house as soon as I could because I knew i could take care of myself while working my way (paying) through college. That's impossible now.

I literally had no idea that all of this went on after her career. It is a fact though that most women with schizophrenia don't show symptoms until their 30's so it would make sense that she "snapped" around that time. That is so sad, that breaks my heart

I totally agree, she's consciously sensitive to everyone or at the very least you can tell she's a true people lover anyway they come I don't feel she's dismissive or judgmental towards anyone. You just gotta respect that.

That's because everybody gets offended by every little thing.
If I remember correctly the confusion comes in about the last attack on the old lady landlord because she initially survived the attack but then died not long after. However she was an elderly women and most likely died of old age... that being said the injuries from the attack my have aggravated an underlying medical condition. By all acounts Betty was remorseful about her actions, even though they were clearly caused by mentel health issues beyond her control and therefore felt responsible.

I know that because I have for almost 15 years - depression, anxiety, and night terrors. Also, I knew women who had schizophrenia.
Battie couldn't be held responsible for her actions during the episode.

I love your way of story-telling. I'm hard of hearing, so I use the captions. Usually when someone does a lot of talking, the captions go so fast that I can't read them fast enough. What's worse is that Bettie's illness popping up after years of doing the "distasteful and shocking" modeling only gives them more ammo. "See how SHE turned out after being involved in and exposed to this HARMFUL LIFESTYLE?!?" It doesn't matter that they're not in any way connected, but they acted like it was.
Most women with schizophrenia don’t show signs until their 30’s so it was simple coincidence. But the agenda had to be pushed.
The only thing that makes monday's bearable

Wow, Bettie Page is so iconic and her imagery is EVERYWHERE but I never knew of all this!!! Yikes! I feel like a big difference between her and other violent criminals is that she isn't idolized for her crime, but for her art. Like, it's not even similar to the weird Casey Anthony idolization because no one seems to even know Bettie was a violent criminal. So idk.... I think the cultural admiration is totally different in Bettie's case because her violent crimes are not the reason she's well known, especially since her crimes seem pretty unknown. *shrugs*

Ok. So every morning a gentlemen (in his late 70s) comes into the coffee shop I work at, and we always have interesting talks & I’m always so impressed with how much he knows about pop culture. This morning I asked him if he knew Bettie Paige, and he immediately started going on about the name of specific photographers she worked with, who she was, etc. I asked if he knew about the little crime spree she went on, and he said “Definitely not!” That is hard proof that there was some type of cover up; because if Mike doesn’t know about it, it didn’t happen. 😂

@Lola Osman Apparently, she was molested by her dad or step dad, and also sexually assaulted by a group of young guys in her teens. I read a really in-depth biography a while back...really sad back story.

I'm a schizophrenic too and I just feel so bad for Bettie. She was clearly having religious delusions and probably wasn't getting any help outside of the hospital stays. I've done some pretty crazy and weird things during episodes and I was lucky to get help when I did.

My ex husband's youngest sister had schizophrenia and had delusions that were terrifying to watch; I cannot imagine how much worse it would be to be the one actually suffering from them.

She was suffering from schizophrenia and was hospitalized for treatment and eventually got it under control. When you hear the voices telling you anything or to do things they are very convincingly real. Oddly enough voices either are religious idols, feed into paranoia, or attacking you. I'm a psych major & wrote a paper on her in college. Hoping to go into forensics grad program 🤞🏻
I read the same and that it was a psych hospital in florida and she was inpatient for quite a long time..towards the end of her life she said she wanted her privacy more then anything else
Yessss hearing her story it sounds like the system let her down. She needed proper treatment and support - leaving her to deal with her demons in the community given her history was negligence from the doctors....
You're specifically referring to Betty, I think..but I think its imperative to mention that voices are not the same for everyone. .what Betty hear may have been religious, for example, but other people have voices completely unrelated to religion. Voices aren't always scary, either...typically with PARANOID schizophrenia they can be, but many times the voices become funny, annoying or a range if other things.

Don't hold yourself back, if you want to try it out for fun. I only do these kind of looks for fun myself, like a hobby. But my grandma who is 89, can put me to shame with fancy and creative looks, even in fashion.
